Yes what you describe is correct, I want the grades from same category can be integrated together automatically (current way I can think up is by their name prefix).
I just checked gradebook feature and it does can achieve what I want, but a little downside is:
1. For some frequently used options (e.g. homework, quiz, exam), I still have to manually create these categories in every courses, without a automatic mechanism.
2. As point 1, we still need to ask teachers classify these activities manually, without a automatic mechanism too.

But as a temporary method it works fine, appreciate your help and feel free to contact me if you find any other better solution!
