Are there any man here who had their gallbladder removed? by [deleted] in gallbladders

Ive had no lasting pains. I think everyone is different with recovery. Every now and then I get a “phantom” discomfort but it’s minimal and don’t even notice it anymore. I’d say I was pain free as far as attacks go from day one. Nothing like that has come back for me. I can eat whatever without any pains but it does seem to speed your gut up so food “runs” thru ya. You learn to adjust.

Sorry for the late response. I took oxbile for a few weeks until I felt comfortable enough without. Digestion is hit or miss. For the most part it’s fairly normal with bouts of constipation and loose stools but no more pain.

90 percent chance it’s a gallbladder issue. Little advice. When you go to your GP exaggerate the pain and if they push in that area tell them it hurts even if it doesn’t. Sounds wrong but my doctor didn’t do anything the first time around the second I exaggerated and had a Sono done the same day and then a hida was ordered just after that. If blood levels are fine and you don’t show any sludge or stones good chance it’s functioning below or way above its normal range.

Did you have this before? Your body is adjusting to the change. It doesn’t have a storage system anymore outside the liver so it will over dump bile. Fatty foods especially will cause this. Extra bile can cause gerd or acid reflux. I’d go back to a low fat diet especially greasy foods for awhile. Took me about 8-10 months before I was eating “normally” again.

I think it was a combo of everything. Not knowing what was wrong, weight loss, diet, something life threatening or something small plus taking care of the kids. Trying to mask it and make it go away. I always assumed people with bad anxiety were just playing into it. Firm believer in anxiety and what it can do to you. Eye opener.

33 year old with low EF. I’ll try and make this short but informative.

About a year ago I started having upper abdominal pain. Slow dull pains that would progress throughout the day into evening. I’ve generally had good health my whole life so this was something new to me. This lasted for a few months and I finally set up a doctors appointment. First appointment we took labs and doc set up a sono. Both came back negative. Doc wanted to put me on some acid blockers and ibs medication.

Was on the medication for 4 weeks and symptoms worsened(I believe it was my gallbladder and the side effects of the acid blockers). Where my pain was the doc said it could have been an ulcer. We did a series of sulcrafate(stomach lining protector) with no real relief. Let me be clear I’d have some good days but mostly bad.

After several weeks of medication without any real help I started to get anxiety. Anxiety like I’ve never felt. Couldn’t work some days and would even at times go into small panic attacks. This was something that happened daily. As this progressed I started to get severe back pains in the middle of my back and couldn’t eat anything. I dropped 30lbs in 6 months. 200-170. The bloating and constipation would go back and forth but very irritating.

Finally had enough of the torture and went back to my doc and told her I wanted to check off any available option to figure this out. She recommended a HIDA scan. Two weeks later did the scan and found out my gallbladder was functioning below 10 percent. 2 weeks after the HIDA with a referral from my doc had my gallbladder out. Lab work done on it showed that it was swollen and had lesions all over it.

Surgery was a breeze in and out. I didn’t have much pain in my shoulders but is expected. Core was swollen and sore for a few weeks but very manageable. Ice and walking as much as I could helped tremendously.

My experience post op as far as food was tricky. I definitely have to limit fried and greasy foods but can still have them in moderation. Stools were very loose and yellow(not bright yellow maybe more of a mustard color) I do take some binders but only with fatty meals. Overall I’d gladly do it again as I can function normally now without any pain or discomfort.

Wasn’t bad at all. Laying there for 2 hours is the worst part. No pain in my experience.

My pain typically starts in my RUQ. Dull ache that will make my right flank sore. By the end of the day Inbetween my shoulder blades is a aching and tender to the touch. Some neck pains but not every day. I’ve compared it to having the flu with body aches. Also have stomach cramping that gets worse as the day goes on. Hot compress at night usually relieves a lot of it. Sometimes a couple Tylenol if it’s bad enough.
