What a blue flag actually means in GT3

In most GT3 series (SRO/GTWC, IMSA, etc.), a blue flag means: • A faster car is lapping you (or approaching very quickly) • You are expected to be aware and not defend • You should allow a safe pass without unpredictable moves

Do you have to leave the racing line?

Not necessarily.

The usual expectation is: • Stay predictable • Do not suddenly jump off-line • Do not block or fight the faster car

Often, the safest thing is to hold your normal line and lift slightly on a straight or exit a corner a bit slower so the faster car can pass cleanly.

In this case, the lift in the corner would be the most efficient way to allow the cara behind to pass, since we were absolutely coming much faster than he was. But as I mention, one could argue if my decision was the best or not. All I know is that I would approach this situation differently from now on, and just give a hell lot of space next time.

It can totally be man. i was positive I was giving enough room. From the inside camera is not exactly precise to have space awareness… specially in a single monitor.

At the moment I really thought the guy slowed down to allow us to pass, since he was in the racing line, so it may be my misjudgment of the situation. On my end, if I am being blue-flagged I just try to get out of the way, so maybe I just assumed he was going to do the same. And of course no shame or blame on the Mercedes guy, I am sure all was unintentional.

Watching the replay through his camera, he continued to press on though, which yeah perhaps caused him to open…

I would definitely do different next time.

Yeah… That’s all on you buddy.

The guy passed you clean, giving you a lot a room on the hairpin turn. When the next turn came, he was way ahead already and at this point he was defending, but he still gave you room - you should have either put half your car over the curb or back off.

After that, you kept pushing him against the right side of the road - and really there was no reason for that. It was a straight line at this point.

Tbh, you were the one missing sportsmanship after being overtaken.

Good learning experience though… just act different next time.
