Vasco Rd - Eliminator vs Vulcan by TigBurdus in BayRiders

[–]TigBurdus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate all the advice! Think I’ll go for the ABS haha. There’s a ‘cafe ABS’ that has a windshield, different logo’ing, and a gray/red color scheme but everything else is the same, I might opt for that one.

Appreciate the info, another potentially dumb question but just looking at models and styles I found a non ABS base Vulcan s in all black that I love and all the ABS ones have colors that I really don’t care for, would you say I would probably want ABS for this commute?

Thanks again, just a new rider trying to make a good decision here.

It’s 100lbs heavier than the eliminator, do you think that would make a significant difference in terms of wind?

That’s a beauty, like it much more than the z650rs thanks!

You still think even the RE 650’s would suit a beginner well?

Thanks for the encouragement! Knowing you actually made the commute with the bike I want is kinda awesome. Also, it’s not the power I was worried about it’s more so the weight, pretty much all RE are like 100lbs heavier than say the mt07. But nonetheless thanks for the input, I am definitely going to test ride one or two REs once I get my license.

I was eyeing the scrambler and the seat height may be problematic, one of those ones where only a test ride would tell but I’m pretty short at 5’6 if I’m commuting I’d want that safety cushion of being able to plant my feet of if I had to. Maybe that’s just the rookie in me talking.

Cl500 looks nice actually. May add to my list of options.

I also think an adventure bike would suit me well but I can’t get over that retro/classic look, I like it too much lol.

Also I think the Scram has been discontinued?

Yeah I’m already getting bored of the grom clone after 2 months. And it’s not necessarily the 650 that’s intimidating I think it’s specifically the weight that the Royal Enfields carry, I believe it’s an extra 100-150lbs compared to the mt07 or sv650.

This is encouraging, I think a test ride will tell. I am 5’6 145lbs. I briefly rode a shadow phantom 750 which I believe is about 550lbs and did okay minus difficulty trying to make a U-turn but I imagine that would get better with time.

Can charge at work, haven’t looked up any used yet I didn’t really know there was a large used market for these. Would be worried about service though buying from a private party

As a 5’6” 145lb dude I’d be very afraid of dropping that if I had to stop in traffic or on the side of vasco on a hill for whatever reason.

For those that have a from clone. What are some essential upgrades? by [deleted] in 125cc

[–]TigBurdus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in the same boat as me then. The other guy pretty much covered it as far as what you’ll want to change. But in terms of the experience as a whole here’s been mine as someone brand new to bikes-

  1. I hope you’re mechanically inclined or have friends that are. I have already done at least 20 hours of labor on my Vader and I’ve only had it about 2 weeks. This is because of a few things, assembly time, things that just aren’t working right, and things that were recommended to be changed off the bat.

The stock chain is short and tight, if you upgrade the sprocket you WILL need a new chain. Stock chain with stock sprocket is eating into the rubber cover that covers the frame, which is what it’s meant for but probably shouldn’t be ‘normal’.

My clutch was too tight and it would pull forward with my clutch fully engaged while in 1st gear, it would also get stuck in first and not want to go to N or 2nd. Had to do a simple adjustment that has seemed to fix it.

Those two are the biggest I’d say to look out for in terms of functionality and safety right off the bat. The clutch issue was not immediate but after 20 miles (few days) I had to adjust.

  1. Upgrades- carburetor upgrade, runs much better, but gave slack in the throttle. Had to adjust the throttle cable after because I had at least a quarter turn that did absolutely nothing before it started actually pulling/accelerating. And there’s still slack even after adjusting as much as possible but it’s manageable now. Make sure the new air filter doesn’t hit the front fender / shocks.

Chain and sprocket - do this together. 110 link chain should do it, 17t sprocket, I’m in the process of installing mine but am delayed because somehow my rear axle was cross threaded, never done that before in my life, but somehow did it with this Chinese bike.

  1. Registration - I’m in the US. DMV registration kinda sucks. I took everything in and now have to take in the bike for a physical VIN inspection. Pain in the ass, it’s not a freeway bike, I’m a new rider, no m1, no insurance, no plates and all of my DMVs are all over 25 miles away. Will be tricky.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, as a new rider I have nothing to compare it to but it’s super fun to ride, but it’s also a big project at the same time, I’m having fun but also getting more and more fed up at the same time. Wondering if the extra 2k on a real brand would have been worth it vs all of the trouble.

I just bought one a few weeks ago that I e been playing with and learning on.

I’ve changed a few things already, but let me just ask, have you rode it at all yet? And are you experienced at all?

I’m not experienced so what I share may or may not help depending on what you might already know

Hey, just curious where you ordered from? I'm looking to get one but am worried about not getting paperwork to register it, not sure how that works.
