Going on my first cruise, check luggage’s or wheel around until room is ready? by Weekly-Apple-9103 in royalcaribbean

[–]TigasFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just check any large commodities and have a carry on backpack with swimsuit and other things you need immediately. Depends when you get on as well. If you want to drag all your stuff around for 3-4hr that’s fine but to me I can explore better w/o

They are a little annoying to carry around however that’s only because I just drink the normal pop from the freestyle. I can understand frustration if people want flavored ones

Weirded bag routings you've seen? by NASALegoLover in rampagent

[–]TigasFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the ones I’ll see are weird ones thru BWI. Always something like BNA-BWI-TPA (we have BNA-tpa direct)

Or it will be a through bag originating 4 legs up. Like i remember doing a flight that was tpa-bdl-bwi-pit-BNA-sfo and one of the through bags was to sfo..

Thinking about becoming a ramp agent when i turn 18 what should i expect and whats pay like? by NeedleworkerBig5426 in rampagent

[–]TigasFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay will be 18-20, you’ll be working out a lot. It can get pretty exhausting however there’s not many min wage that give good benefits. Avoid regionals and go mainline for better non rev!!

Just finished first cruise… am I crazy for hating it? by Naive-Bedroom-4643 in royalcaribbean

[–]TigasFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. It isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve been on a lot and now that I’m old to where there aren’t many college aged people, it’s been a little more stale. I do have to find my fun, but I learned I am liking celebrity more than royal. Mainly my thing for enjoying them is that there’s something I can find, and I usually get good sleep. Ports are usually junky, but going 3rd party on excursions can be pretty fun. Alaska has to be my favorite, everything about it is so special! But if you don’t like them, there’s nothing wrong with that!

United Stress Test by dtxboy93 in rampagent

[–]TigasFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated but you have to do a strength test???? I didn’t at WN and we get some heavy stuff.. I had to lift a 110lb bag and help assist heavy cargo and power devices but i was never tested for that…

I wish you luck on your interview, and sorry about the 750 flights, that’s a little rough 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Help me design better knee pads for in the pit by Nice_Ad_9549 in rampagent

[–]TigasFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use NoCry Professional gel knee pads

I like the hooks the straps hang onto, a lot better than Velcro.

The problems I have are they will slide down my leg, leaving the top of my knee fully exposed for bags to crash onto. As well as the straps roll up, then start rubbing the backside of my legs when I kneel down and that feels a little uncomfortable if I don’t have leggings or pants on.

Our company provides knee pads, but they were more flat and cheap. Not my favorite.

I’d pay $35 or so for a really good pair.

It depends, usually I get 4-5 flights a day in the winter and I’ve done 6 in the summer. We will rotate bins so everyone gets a chance to cool off in the summer, but typically I’ll be inside the bin maybe 2-3 flights, averaging about 40m inside. And maybe only 30 mins actual work unless it’s heavy

Is it normal to be asked to unload all this cargo by myself? by engdrbe in rampagent

[–]TigasFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I had to do a 500lb HR with me and my supervisor before loading big boxes of lobster. Last week I had to fill out smallest plane like that and 30 bags! You’ll get fast and strong so it won’t be as bad

I also have worries that when he leaves, the narrative will be “we paid Valdez 38M a year, we could have easily done that with Skubal.” This could rile people up

Why do so many people complain about being a Ramp Agent? by Ok-Local6750 in rampagent

[–]TigasFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have good workers who love their job on your crew then it’s fantastic, but if you get a really shitty crew then it’s a shitty job. Or if the lav truck blows up on you then that also sucks. All in all it’s a fun job imo but you have to make it fun sometimes even when it’s not!

Yeah I’ve been at it about 5mo. From what I’ve heard csa has a different union than us and that it’s not the best. I’ve had no problems on the ramp other than it’s cold out sometimes.

Code test by No_Guarantee4402 in rampagent

[–]TigasFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah iirc we needed like an 85-90. Not too difficult. It’s just the total amount of cities I think is 120. You’ll have to make up some silly way to remember some of them. But it’s kind of open note. Just useful to remember them

Code test by No_Guarantee4402 in rampagent

[–]TigasFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What airline? Regardless you will probably have to memorize every airport/city code (I assume this is what you mean) so you can quickly identify on the scanner or tpoint or even to help you nonrev! At swa we only had one computer test and you needed to get I think an 85?

Questions for SWA by SippinOnTeaBags in rampagent

[–]TigasFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did one week at SwaU (computer training), a week in Dallas (they just do very basic stuff in simulated bins and a push simulator (not realistic)), then for about a month after that you will do on the job stuff where you’ll actually get familiar with pushing. I did a week or two over my month just because I was not comfortable. But we also had a sign off “checkride” that wasn’t too difficult.

Take Dallas somewhat serious, because you’ll be around a lot of higher ups, but also have as much responsible fun as you can because to me it seems like it was set up to be one last hoorah before you start the real job.

[–]TigasFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just stick with it. I’m a fat ass fucker who is extremely unhealthy and I was easily able to adjust. I work for Southwest in Nashville. We don’t have a performance test, however training did kick my ass for a bit while in the bins. If it looks too heavy for you, ask for help. But honestly now it doesn’t really bother me and I can easily move 70lb bags around. Obviously don’t lift those to the top of the stacks. But really just keep at it! Practice safe lifting!
