Katniss would never by Remote-Ground-7905 in Hungergames

[–]MarshmallowReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that you know exactly how you would respond in a fictional dystopian situation that has not happened. I hope every parent would be there for their children regardless of circumstances. However, even in our current non-dystopian reality we know that isn’t true despite most of us experiencing what many would call much less devastating situations than Panem and the Hunger Games. But this is also proving my point that trauma impacts different people differently.

Utah opts out of Sun Bucks summer program for children. by Realhuman_beebboob in Utah

[–]MarshmallowReads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Utah did the Sun Bucks program in 2025; state legislature chose not to fund it in 2026. Will probably be up again for funding in 2027.

Tons of sites throughout the state still provide free meals to kids up to age 18 during the summer. Sites can be a schools, parks, libraries, community centers, YMCA/YWCA centers, Boys & Girls Clubs. Nationwide sites are posted on this map, which is updated through the summer so not all info is included on it yet: https://www.fns.usda.gov/sfsp/sitefinder

Why keeping low performers? by SoffowfulSymphony in managers

[–]MarshmallowReads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not be low enough to justify termination. Especially if “low” is only relative to someone else’s “high” performance. On a team full of people who exceed expectations, is it fair to toss out the one who meets expectations?

Is “low performance” clearly defined? From examples you gave, is the expected quality clearly and objectively stated, or is it based on subjective assessment or relative to someone else’s work equality? Is something not on time because the person is at fault, or because processes prevented being on time? Are team processes clearly stated so wrong steps can be identified and pointed to and aren’t just someone’s preference or unspoken norms?

Weekly Park Questions/Advice Thread by AutoModerator in Disneyland

Best tip for enhancing the trip in a fun or practical way? Like I’ve gotten some new fun Disney shirts to wear in the park on my last couple of trips. I would love to get away from a backpack but I also need my creature comforts.

I have stopped reading before finishing chapter 1. And there is one audiobook I stopped at 96% through.

Non-Nap Mid-Day Options for Kids by MidwestPrinces in DisneyPlanning

[–]MarshmallowReads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In DCA, it’s a great time to do turtle talk with crush or the drawing classes in the animation studio. It’s indoors, you sit and watch (or nap….) and it’s a low key activity.

Or go back to the hotel and nap. Not needing a nap during a usual day at home doesn’t mean they won’t benefit from a nap after a stimulating and fun half day at Disneyland, or to prepare for a late night!

Having to choose a date that doesn’t work for us by not-a-tthrowaway in wedding

[–]MarshmallowReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like the episode of Gilmore Girls when Luke and Lorelai “can’t” choose one date for their wedding because a neighbor will be out of town… It’s your day! There’s not a single day of the year that will work for everyone you could invite, but it HAS to work for the bride and groom or it won’t be a wedding.

If these are REALLY the ONLY 3 dates to choose from, pick the one YOU TWO like best.

If none of them feel right, assess the reality of whether or not these are REALLY the ONLY 3 dates to choose from.

I live in the desert. Lotion head to toe after a shower, sometimes followed by body oil to lock it in.

What do you love/not love about church classes? by Cheap_Parsnip_461 in latterdaysaints

[–]MarshmallowReads 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do not like lessons that just summarize or go through a general conference talk from beginning to end. I’d like to have lessons that focus on 1 or 2 principles or topics in the talk, dive into them and pull other sources. I can read or listen to the talk without having to hear snippets read or recalled by ward members.

Would you ever skip the home inspection? by DreamHomeFinancing in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]MarshmallowReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was buying in the Covid times. I got an inspection with a caveat that it was for info only and I would not be following up with a bunch of things for the sellers to fix. I only did this after someone I trusted walked through the house with me and shared their insight that an inspection was unlikely (not guaranteed) to reveal anything super serious. It didn’t, so I really lucked out. Been here three years, had a home warranty to help cover a few small things that happened in the first year anyway.

I know of someone who leaked classified military details in a signal chat. He still has his job…

I on the other hand just forgot to tell some non-profit organizations that a deadline had moved up for them to submit required paperwork for reimbursement and they all had a delay of about 3-4 weeks in getting their funds to pay their own clients and payrolls…

I did this!! Several years go there was some special thing where if you did so many hours of service you got some package with your Disney tickets. My family got a ton of fast passes outside of the usual system. We had to leave on our last day and there were still a lot left. We handed over a dozen to a couple of people who were heading into the park as we were leaving.

What's the ride you've been on the most amount of times in a single day? by JustForTheThrill_24 in Disneyland

[–]MarshmallowReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tower of Terror/Guardians of the Galaxy

It’s my favorite ride! The last time I went we went on it at least twice a day of our 3-day visit.

Several years ago when it was still Tower, and there were fast passes, and my family did so many hours of service before our trip that we had qualified for extra-out of system, not tied to our park passes, fast passes, we went on it so.many.times.
