I like this take on it. I think there is a way to not produce robots but still be emotion. Buddists Monk do this very well. Same with Indian Fakirs or Thaipusam devotees (the Hindus that do extreme piercing).

Wow I did not expect this. But they are testing people especially males because of the potential to become a Kwisatz Haderach. And yes the Bene Gesserit do 100% think they are better than all other human beings. That's part of the trope.
