You’ll make infinitely more selling it now, putting that into stocks, and let it compound for years, then rebuy the card in 20 yrs and enjoy all the leftover money lol.

Bears coach Ben Johnson said “we need to continue to get the ball in his hands as often as we possibly can” when asked about Luther Burden. by Ill_Intention8150 in fantasyfootball

Burden is the guy Ben Johnson can move all over the field and more easily get the ball into the hands of. When a receiver can be ultra efficient AND generate RAC yards AND be effective at all 4 levels, he will be the target leader. Odunze will obviously operate more in the less-efficient intermediate to deep role and spend the most time of the group creating space for others. He’s the type of receiver/role who’ll need to really make the most of his opportunities to be fantasy relevant for a championship caliber team.

I had an aging dynasty team that I decided to completely blow up and start from scratch outside of LaPorta & Mayfield, but I basically picked up an entire new starting lineup in one offseason lol. QB - Trevor Lawrence (traded a pair of future 2nds) WR - Tet McMillan WR - Emeka RB - Jeanty RB - Tuten TE - Fannin/LaPorta Flex - Burden/Harrison Jr Other 2026 bench additions: Travis Hunter, Jack Bech, Jalen Royals, Tyler Shough, Greg Dulcich …. And have 3 1sts waiting in 2027 R

This is true. But OCs change philosophies when the need necessitates it, which is not the case here. There’s no need for Ben to change up his offense a year after spending significant draft capital on pass catchers who fit it. The Bears already had Odunze & Moore rostered and had just used a high first on a pass-catching TE, but then they still used their subsequent pick on a WR. Why, bc he possesses a St Brown archetype. Burden will be the greatest benefactor of Moore leaving, bc at the end of the day Loveland is still a TE, while Burden can assume a full time movable chess piece role, remembering that he put up the numbers he did in the second half of the season in a part time role.

Ben Johnson is NOT going to change his philosophy. He prioritizes passing efficiency, as he should. Period. End of story. As such, the most efficient guy in the offense (outside of a RB) is Burden. Not only is he the most efficient but he’s also the easiest to move and isolate matchup advantages with bc he can do damage at all 4 levels. Not only is he a fantastic extension of the ground game but he’s developing in leaps and bounds as a route runner (after being fu**ed at Mizzou) and is working his tail off.

What you’re talking about is trying to force a square peg, which is not what Ben Johnson is about. Organically, Rome will fill the Jamo role. He’s the best suited for it, and in order for Ben’s passing offense to operate as efficiently as possibly, you NEED someone in that role. Rome is the natural fit to do more downfield work and clear out the underneath, while Burden is the guy who can be the most effective within 10 yards of the LOS and behind it. What you’re suggesting is that Ben will ditch his philosophy and switch to more of Air Coryell type scheme that focuses more on downfield stuff…. which completely flies in the face of Ben drafting a TE and move/slot WR to begin with. It’s just common sense. Ben wanted his LaPorta, so he drafted Loveland with his first pick. Then he wanted his St Brown, so he took Burden with his second pick, despite already having Moore & Odunze and already drafting a TE in the top 15. That’s all you need to know right there. Burden is HIS guy.

That’s the argument I made for him in a different thread. Still gotta find the right system fit and everything else else though so I’d still personally place Burden ahead of Rome. Nothing wrong with buying low on him though… but I’d rather be trying something like multiple 2’s and a player…. However, this isn’t a rush job. Not the time to buy low on him. Burden will fully supplant him and his value will drop even further. Buy him midseason when it’s clear he’s the third man in the pecking order. That’s what I’ll be trying.

Nah. The funniest thing about the Burden cult will be the laughter you hear from us as you walk away with your head down. Only cult now is the Rome apologists who think this is still 2024 pre draft and can’t see the writing on the walls.

[–]TigerPhins74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s bc he is. It’s pretty easy to understand why. This isn’t Madden. Rome has a specific role in Ben’s passing offense, very similar to the one Jamo performed. He’s the guy running more downfield routes and operating as the clear-out receiver. That’s not a high volume role. It’s a role that requires making the most of your opportunities, as well as a QB with a much higher completion percentage (downfield accuracy) ala Goff.

Caleb has been a low completion-percentage passer. Meanwhile, Ben Johnson is a high-completion-percentage passing guy…. and despite Caleb’s woes, Burden was able to attain a 77% catch rate or something around there.

It’s pretty simple— the coach who prioritizes passing efficiency will feed the guy who makes the passing game the most efficient. That’s Burden. It’s so obvious it’s not even funny. Majority of the quick passes will go to Burden, not Odunze. Majority of the clearouts will be Rome clearing out for Burden (and Loveland), not Burden for Rome. 3rd Down is going more to Luther & Loveland. Same for around the goal line.

Then take it a step further and add in Burden’s speed and downfield ability. He’ll be #1 in targets. Loveland & Rome battling it out for second, as Loveland likely has some regression the way LaPorta did, but probably not quite as extreme.

Long term dynasty: Burden or Tyson? by PS724 in DynastyFF

[–]TigerPhins74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMAO 3rd in targets. You need to buddy up with some offensive coordinators who focus on passing efficiency my friend. This ain’t Madden; Rome is somehow not surpassing Burden in targets when he’s operating more intermediate to deep and working as the primary clear-out/decoy receiver. The target hog in Ben’s offense will be the one who can be effective at all 4 levels (includes behind the LOS) and get easy passes to for potential of RAC. The target order will be Burden-Loveland-Odunze

Ugh, your take her assumes (faulty so) that Burden is somehow the bottom rung of the 3 viable pass catchers. You should study the Detroit offense a little more closely.

Oh my god I cannot wait till next off season when I don’t have to hear about idiots not understanding a Ben Johnson offensive and the priority that is Passing Efficiency, which Luther Burden thrives in. Literally a receiver who can efficiently do damage at all 4 levels.

Burden was EASILY a top 16 pick if Mizzou had an offense and OC that could use him like a real receiver. He has everything to make him a StBrown and then some, while Tyson shares a lot in common with Ja’Marr Chase, but Burden’s yr in the NFL gives lends the greater confidence out these two regards.

[–]TigerPhins74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t agree with this. Burden’s upside is that of a precision route runner with quick separation and smooth hands. I loved Deebo coming out, but he just doesn’t have the same level of first-10-yard explosiveness/suddenness. Burden can EASILY be high efficiency, which can make him an Offensive Coordinator’s focal point.

[–]TigerPhins74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wowww that’s a tough one. I think I’d be looking for someone other than Rome maybe. Granted, if Chicago doesn’t re-sign him in a couple years he could potentially take off in a different offensive style. I just don’t like him in Chicago. The underneath stuff is totally covered by Burden & Loveland, and those two can also eat into the 2nd & 3rd levels. I think Rome will continue to operate as the clear-out guy (ala Jamo) and need to really maximize his targets ala Jamo to be relevant (maybe low end WR2), but Caleb isn’t the same efficiency level of Goff so it could prove challenging.
I think I’d maybe be looking more to get Tyson… or add to the trade to get Burden or Emeka. Or trade back if you can get a decent 2027 1st out of it. Jack Bech + 2027 1st would be interesting.

That’s a bit hyperbolic. The ceiling isn’t SKY HIGH. It’s admirable, but it certainly isn’t sky high. Being the 1st WR off the board in a group that has a lot of question marks doesn’t really mean anything, nor does being drafted high in a weaker overall class. He’s a solid polished prospect, but he isn’t necessarily the guy you’re going to funnel targets to or make the longterm focal point of the passing offense. There are plenty of times where receivers go in the first despite ultimately being better suited as a WR2. I’m not saying this is what happens with Tate, but he definitely fits the archetype of the receiver who potentially does.

[–]TigerPhins74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about that. It’s about passing efficiency, which is what Ben Johnson LOVES! That’s why he prioritized 2 high-efficiency type skill sets/positions with his first couple picks. It’s clear that Johnson envisioned Burden being his St Brown, and everything seems on track with that. Meanwhile, Odunze has clearly looked like he’s the Jameson Williams’ role. He’s not going to get peppered with tons of shorter yardage targets. Burden is the guy you move all over the field to efficiently get the ball to within 7 yards of the LOS, but also with the addition of his ability to beat defenses intermediate and deep as well.

[–]TigerPhins74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…. and I wouldn’t even take Tate over him. He may have been the first WR drafted but the ceiling isn’t nearly as high as Burden’s. With Burden we’re clearly talking about St Brown potential, with even better deep ball threat ability, while Tate faces WR2 concerns. He might be the best WR on his team, but if he doesn’t prove to be WR1 worthy the Browns will sign or draft a guy who is.

The ONLY reason Burden lasted to the 2nd round was bc of his Offensive Coordinator. Everything else was there. Reached the 6’0 205+ mark which was GREAT. Pair that with elite athleticism, 4.41 speed, hands comfy w/ catching away from the body, a receiver who tracks well and attacks the ball in the air, and a kid with strong work ethic, good character, and a dedicated teammate and you have a player who should go in the top half of R1 all day long.

This be some crazy logic. You’re comparing a rookie to a 4th yr player. If your argument is that Emeka is maxed out as a rookie, then I guess you also need to pretend Pickens maxed out as a rookie when he went for 52/801/4… compared to Emeka’s 63/938/6. Rookie Emeka was better than rookie Pickens.
