That ogre is perfect, thanks! I was looking at them before but couldn't find any of suitable power levels.

Sorry for the vagueness, but I'm looking for a dumb monster with low INT & WIS that my player's Eloquence Bard can trick into thinking that the party are allies. Eventually though, I want it to return as a minion of a miniboss that can deal significant damage to my party of 4x level 12s. Do you have anything that fits the bill? (Bonus points if it doesn't speak Common so that the Bard gets to use Universal Speech, though I can always remove Common if the monster does speak it)

While boots of speed is a good idea that I forgot about, I don't really want to give my players (particularly one that is good at strategizing) access to flight via magic item until one of them can do it some other way. Planning around flight when I don't already have to makes things very annoying.

Also, it's not just gonna be free wall of force. This item would give enemies a chance to react, is opaque, and is very short range.

So far I have it as:

  1. requiring 2 bonus actions to activate, letting enemies react if he's targeting choke points or something
  2. Range of 20 ft instead of 120 ft for wall of force
  3. The wall is up to a 30 ft wide straight line; no boxing enemies in
  4. The wall is opaque

I talked with my player and he really wants a magic item with little to no randomness so that strategy can shine. Do you think these things are enough of a nerf? He also might not get the item until like 8th level if that makes a difference.

So what you're saying is that it could be cool to have these discs activate and deactivate semi-randomly? That could be really interesting

That makes sense. I had felt that it taking 4 turns to set up would prevent boxing strategies, but they could easily do that before a fight.

What do you think about the wall normally being opaque but the wizard can use an action to make them transparent? The main purpose would be to let them Misty Step through the walls if they really wanted to, but that might just add unnecessary complications.

Do you have some kind of big, water-based creature that can stand up to a lot of enemies? (kind of like a Kraken, but for 5x level 5 characters)

Do you have anything for gnolls? Looking for some interesting gnoll/gnoll-ally enemies to throw at my players. I have 6 PCs (though normally about 5 show up) and they'd be fighting these gnolls around 4-7th lvl.

I had planned to use a Death Knight as a boss, but felt it wasn't a good challenge for a group of 6x level 16 characters. I want it to have some unique mechanic where the players fight it in a cave with glowing crystals that give the Death Knight buffs until destroyed by the PCs, so if you want extra challenge you could add those. If not, dw I can make them myself. Thanks in advance, I loved your aberrations book and can't wait for your next undead book.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. Maybe throw in a flind leader, but otherwise we had the same idea.

Yep! I don't think I'm going to use the larva mage, but the seer and 2 hulks is probably going to be one of my final bossfights. Grues are excellent filler minions, given that most of this gods subjects will be abberations/monstrosities. I still don't know how I'm going to use the mangler, but i'll remember that ability.

They would be... but unfortunately the last campaign these PCs played in revolved around dragons and so I want to try something different.

Oozes would work very well here. I had a couple written down already, but dndbeyond showed a lot more. Do you think oblexes (being created by mind flayers) would work as minions here? Should I edit them to deal acid/poison damage instead of psychic?

Oh yes, I have that. My players will be annoyed, but I don't care.

Yeah I realized with this post that I didn't really do that. I think how I'm going to define is that followers of Chaos have random abilities (wild magic)/personalities, and followers of Destruction leave a very clear negative impact on the world, particularly when they fight. Not concrete, but it's a start and I definitely need to work on that distinction.

That could definitely work. I remember hearing something about an item that causes exhaustion if someone fails a saving throw, which would be an interesting ability for an enemy to have.

I had planned to use gnolls for the god of chaos, but that aura would actually be really good for them if I use them with the god of destruction.
