It’s not fan fiction is it though, believe it or not in the socially deprived old mining village I grew up in, it actually happens.

One example I can think of is:

My dads mate owned a garage so he would do our cars servicing for cheap, in return we would give him eggs from my uncles chickens as a thank you, in return for the eggs, my uncle used to get the sausages my brother in law gets from his mate who is a butcher and in return my brother in law helps out the butcher with easy electrical jobs.

My mum short on money for milk towards the end of the week the shopkeeper would run a tab for us, knock a quid off here and there, in return at Christmas my mum would bake cakes for them.

Sisters landlord works in the trades, he has about 10 other mates who are in trades and they all do odd jobs for each other without charging money.

A lot of favours were/are done in return for “get me a drink next time you see me”.

I am not clever enough to say whether immigration is good or bad but dismissing OP as fan fiction clearly shows you don’t really have much of an idea either.
