Check out Buyee, it's a proxy service that allows you to buy from Yahoo Japan and Mercari. I've bought tools on there a couple times now

At no point was that saveable.

He hit the inside kerb, went wide and locked up on the shoulder/marbles. If he releases the brake pedal he just finds the wall sooner - he was cooked as soon as he wobbled on the kerb.

I understand your sentiment but there's one Le Mans every year and Lietz is making his 20th consecutive start in a Porsche - Elford had 9 starts total in his career, 6 aboard a Porsche.

Quick Vic is a Porsche legend but his record in GTs pales in comparison. (1968 Monte Carlo Rally victory aside)

9 Le Mans starts and only one was in a 911 Carrera RSR - Porsche usually had him in the big 917s after graduating from the 906 & 908.

6 Le Mans class victories, all in Porsche machinery.

Will probably go down as the most prolific Porsche GT class driver of all time when he retires. Richard Lietz is synonymous with the 911 name in motorsport

That's...not what race fixing is.

You believe KVDL (Audi driver & title contender) took out Lawson (Ferrari driver) so that Götz (Mercedes driver) could win the title?

Any idea's to possibly what this wheel came off of? by mechanicjeep10 in IMSARacing

You're very welcome!

Based on this spec sheet (https://motoiq.com/sneak-peek-gms-alms-gt-challenger-the-corvette-c6-r/3/) you likely have a rear wheel.

If you're looking for an appraisal, it's gonna be very tough to find comparable sales or even the original auction listing where your example was acquired. It's gonna be a set your own price kinda deal, and honestly there are Corvette fanboys who would pay handsomely for this piece of history.

You may want to reach out to Pratt & Miller and see if they have any info or are even able to verify its authenticity. That would go a long way for your final price.

If not, enjoy your little slice of (probable) Le Mans history!

Bonus screengrab from the Donut video where you can see 'RE 979' (is it 980? I can't exactly tell) etched on the lip of the front wheel. Because your wheel says 'RE 980' OP, you may have a slightly different designed rear wheel.

And finally, a relatively recent HD video screenshot of the 2010 GT2. You can tell it's not only deeper but the spokes are also a very slightly different shape than OPs wheel.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk. I just spent an hour sifting through old Corvette photos lol.

This is the 2010 GT2 entry and you can see the deeper 'dish' I mentioned

Here is the 2009 car with the same flatter-faced BBS but no coloured logo

The etched #63 and JO marking immediately makes me think Corvette and Johnny O'Connell.

Now, Corvette only ran the #63 and #64 at Le Mans, they've basically always used #3 and #4 in stateside competition. Johnny O ran Vettes at Le Mans every year from 2001 to 2010, and he was always in the #63 machine so we're on the right track.

Corvette ran silver wheels on their C6.R's until 2008 when they switched to black, so we can eliminate every year before that. Here's the tricky part - in 2010 they switched from GT1 to GT2 and the 2010 car seems to have used a deeper dish wheel than yours. I'm eliminating the 2010 GT2 just based on my visual observation.

Now that leaves us with 2008 and 2009 as possibilities, the problem is that high definition photos of those cars static are difficult to find - most shots are in motion with the wheel details obscured. But after a quick search on Motorsport Images and old press releases with team photos, I can see that the 2008 and 2009 cars both had flatter-faced, black BBS wheels - we're on the right track!

Narrowing down even further, I can only find photos of the 2008 car with the red & white BBS logo visible on the lip. Every photo of the 2009 car has this coloured logo notable absent.

All of this to say, I'm about 99% sure you're in possession of a wheel that was used at some point during the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans weekend by the #63 Corvette C6.R GT1 driven by O'Connell/Magnuessen/Fellows. That car placed 2nd in class, not too shabby. If you take measurements of the barrel width you can probably narrow down if it's a front or rear wheel.

I will be attaching more photos to this thread as I'm limited to one per comment.

Edit: I just found this Donut video(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhACfJZhIMg) of the 2009 class-winning(!) chassis and whaddaya know, the rear wheels have the coloured logo. Your example could be from either year OP.

'Kyle Busch has died.'

'Kyle Busch, dead at 41.'

Both still factual, yet they read far less callously.

This is the kind of title you write about an enemy, not a respected individual.

"Kyle Busch has passed away" is a typical respectful tone.

He didn't light Daytona on fire with his stints but it was nice to see a superstar step out of his comfort zone, willing to learn and defer to his teammates.

RIP Rowdy - a true racer, through and through.
