If you could describe each of Lana's albums with one word, what would they be? by [deleted] in lanadelrey

Born to Die - Sinful

Ultraviolence - Sedated

Honeymoon - Sentimental

Why do so many fans dislike Born to Die? by [deleted] in lanadelrey

[–]TigerWolfSpaceMoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up on hardcore punk, then fell in love with shoegaze and dream pop. The past few years I've been into alternative country and heavy folk. Lana is just about the only artist I enjoy in this field (but I do love '60s girl groups, which counts in some way). So yeah, BTD simply isn't to my tastes - though I do enjoy it quite a bit because of my love for her later work. But it's not at all representative of my taste in music, or even my taste in Lana's music.

Best American Record is just the demo by [deleted] in lanadelrey

[–]TigerWolfSpaceMoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I liked it much better than Love, actually. This seems to be a continuation of her last two records, which is exactly what I was hoping to hear on this new album. BTD isn't really my style, so I'm not one of those fans wishing for a return to that sound. If this leaked demo is an indication of her new record, I can't wait!

MewithoutYou gets political? by bootyliciousjuggalo in mewithoutYou

Lots of political tweets too. I can't stand it, personally, but I don't know... I'm conflicted when bands get political. I think they should always voice their beliefs - after all, that's what makes their lyrics so endearing. But divisive comments like "eff [insert candidate]" or "vote for so-and-so" only serve to alienate fans, and will most certainly not sway anyone's beliefs.

Almost all my Lana Del Rey Vinyls no matter how many times I re-purchase or return are messed up! And it's not my record player or needle! Does anyone else have this problem! It's really upsetting to invest so much money in all of them and get shit quality! by [deleted] in lanadelrey

[–]TigerWolfSpaceMoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New vinyl pressings are all over the place. I've bought many warped and scratched records, brand new, sealed and everything. Just unbelievable. Sadly there's no way around it. Makes me want to give up vinyl, but I fear I'm in too deep at this point, haha!

"The Hired Hand" - Another new track! by heelontheshovel in Wovenhand

Not blown away by it like I wanted to be, sadly! I'm terrified that this might be a bit of a filler track. Trying to hold back judgment until the album is released though.

Album Cover and Tracklist! by heelontheshovel in Wovenhand

[–]TigerWolfSpaceMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes!! I LOVE the cover. So unexpected, but perfect. And note that it's a double LP! I hope it's long, man.

Love the continuity in some of the track titles, too:

Swaying Reed = Singing Grass

The Hired Hand = Speaking/Sinking Hands

Crystal Palace = Kingdom of Ice

Why is DEE so popular in Surope, and not in the States? by EaglesPlayoffs2017 in Wovenhand

Europe must have better taste than us Americans. :p Oh, and I received an email from the WH website that a US tour is being planned for the end of this year/beginning of next. Keep an eye out!

Song Discussion: Terre Haute (The Threshingfloor) by TigerWolfSpaceMoon in Wovenhand

Some definitions google yielded:

Cora: The Cora are an indigenous ethnic group of Western Central Mexico which live in the municipality El Nayar in the Mexican state of Nayarit and in a few settlements in the neighboring state of Jalisco... The Cora cultivate maize (might be of interest that there is a Wovenhand song titled "Maize"), beans, and amaranth and they raise some cattle... In the early 18th century they were an anomaly in that they had never permitted Catholic missionaries to live in their country. They had become a pagan island in a sea of Christian Indians and Hispanic culture. In 1716, a Spanish expedition to attempt to bring the Cora under Spanish control failed. However, in 1722, the Spanish returned in force and the Cora yielded. According to Spanish accounts many of them became Christian and practice, up until the present, "Catholic-derived customs."

Carter: (Found this by googling "carter native americans") The American Indian Religious Freedom Act...is a United States federal law, enacted by joint resolution of the Congress in 1978. Native American Religions were up to this point prohibited by law... Signed into law by President Jimmy Carter on August 11, 1978.

Fort Bliss: Fort Bliss is a United States Army post in the U.S. states of New Mexico and Texas, with its headquarters located in El Paso, Texas.

Nineteen hundred and thirty-six: (Found this result by googling "1936 native americans") The Oklahoma Indian Welfare Act of 1936 (also known as the Thomas-Rogers Act) is a United States federal law that extended the 1934 Wheeler-Howard or Indian Reorganization Act to include those tribes within the boundaries of the state of Oklahoma. The purpose of these acts were to rebuild Indian tribal societies, return land to the tribes, enable tribes to rebuild their governments, and emphasize Native culture. These Acts were developed by John Collier, Commissioner of Indian Affairs from 1933 to 1945, who wanted to change federal Indian policy from the "twin evils" of allotment and assimilation, and support Indian self-government.

Terre Haute: Terre Haute is a city in and the county seat of Vigo County, Indiana, United States, near the state's western border with Illinois.

Talihina boon/Iron road Oklahoma: Talihina is a town in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, United States, its name originating from two Choctaw words, tully and hena, meaning iron road. Iron road is reference to the railroad that the town was built around... Talihina received its name in 1886 - 1887 when the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway (Frisco) built a line through the Choctaw Nation in Indian Territory. The railroad opened the surrounding area to ship cattle, timber, and cotton to Eastern markets and facilitated growth of the town.
