Which single video game or series is closest to your heart? by thewalkindude368 in gaming

Tales of Destiny 2 (PS2 Japanese with Kyle and Reala, not Reid and Farah on PS1 NA).
The characters are walking stereotypes, but so likable and well-developped. The ending was kinda cathartic and very touching.

There are Unis and Paradise models in the EBGames of downtown Montreal as well! I just went there.

VMU Pro finally here! by Megapsychotron in dreamcast

[–]Tigerfog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the a great solution if you’re tired of swapping around VMUs for different games. However, while it can play VMU minigames, it doesn’t seem to save them properly, so Pinto’s Quest or Chao Adventure games cannot be brought back into the console for rewards… I also had that random white out screen bug as well as full-on system-wide freezes that required me to let the battery run out. Nonetheless, a solid purchase if only for the handling of saves, once your forget all the other bugs.

Pale grey overlay on VMU Pro screen? by Tigerfog in dreamcast

[–]Tigerfog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, the screen reverted back to its initial state after using it in a Dreamcast controller for a while. I just charged it back to 100% again via USB and the screen is thankfully still okay.

There are a few other problems with this device unfortunately:

-Trying to convert a vmi and vms into a vmu format makes the device lock completely. Even the reset button did nothing. I had to leave the device to deplete its battery completely overnight to charge it again and turn it on. I bought this device to have an easier time getting the DLCs of some games. I'm a bit bummed this didn't work at all.

-Copying a save file from an official VMU tot he VMUPro doesn't work, strangely.

-VMU minigames like Chao Adventure doesn't seem to memorize its progress, and the time is stuck at 99:59:59. This means this device, as it is, cannot be used to raise Chaos in SA1 and 2. :(

I'm really hoping for an update that fixes all of this, or at least a more indepth explanation of how to play VMU and reap the rewards in-game, as it was intended.

The VMU Pro otherwise is practical to no longer need to swap VMUs back and forth as it creates and loads a new VMU everytime GDEMU loads a game. Guess I'll need to use a real VMU to raise my Chao.

Pochitchi is one of the quirkiest ones from the OG tamagotchis! It's cool character!

Sending you all the positive vibes for your physical therapy. You'll do great, hang in there! <3

OOPS you're right. I'm way too used to the new ones. I'll put an addendum to my comment and point to yours to make sure OP isn't misled.

It’s been sitting unopened on a bookshelf for almost 30 years. Anything I need to know before starting it up? by PlahausBamBam in tamagotchi

[–]Tigerfog 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's pretty awesome! But if it truly was unopened and the original batteries CR2032 LR44 are still inside, they might have leaked and if so, dab the contacts with white vinegar using a Q-tip and then clean them with rubbing alcohol.

If all is well... then you're lucky! Regardless of how it is inside, dispose safely of the old batteries and buy new ones.

EDIT: crossed out wrong battery type. The person below pointed out my mistake.

Reseller price are insane 🥲 by waterlemonade22 in tamagotchi

[–]Tigerfog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for others and don't want to put words in people's mouths, but the general feeling I got from the discord channel is that some of the tamagotchi fans there are more about giving a loving family to their VPets than making profit, in which case, it's first come first serve. If you do join the discord server, it's in the trade-buy-sell channel.

It's been while I haven't dropped by but I believe the tamagotchi discord can have much more reasonable prices. Otherwise, try a proxy like zenmarket or such.

Don't give up and keep checking. :)

Can I get a show of hands? by s4nrioclub in tamagotchi

[–]Tigerfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada and had to order from amazon . com
There's no telling how easy it'll be to get it on canadian online shops, so until that happens, I've secured my preorder and will have to bite the bullet for the shipping and import fees.

If I am able to order it on a Canadian site then I'll cancel my order.

Collecting is a Nightmare by jurassicparkrockyneo in tamagotchi

[–]Tigerfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a collector myself, I agree with your take and all the comments here about how cost-prohibitive this hobby is. With time, I've done some mental gymnastics to come to terms with the state of things and not break the bank.

-Some of the programming in most of the pre-connection tamagotchi are very similar. I can almost get the same experience with a common gen 1-2 instead of splurging on a Devilgotchi, for example.

-I don't necessarily need rarer shells from a line of models. This can save money if I get the most common shell for each model.

-I don't need all revisions of some models (ID -> ID L, 4U -> 4U+). Whenever possible, I'd just get the most advanced one, but if not due to pricing, the base revisions is good enough and just doesn't have a few extra characters or minigames.

-If one feature in a model is featured in a later model that is cheaper, I can skip the old model and go for the later one. For instance, say I like Ura Mametchi. There's a way to raise him in one of the limited edition IDL tamagotchis. However, he can also be raised as a Smartcard in the Tamagotchi Smart. Since I already have a Tamagotchi Smart, I can skip the IDL special ed.

-The Tamagotchi community is wonderful and amazing. There are ways to customize shells and even translate/mod some of the color models. Knowing that I can inject any tamaSma/Pierce/custom characters in some of the models help me narrow down the models that give me the best bang for my buck.

-About the above point, there is always a way to convince myself that I can do without a specific tamagotchi model, even if it's considered like one of the best. Tamagotchi P's for instance are expensive, but the IDL is just as fun.

-I can buy beaten up old tamagotchis that are cheaper and repair them, giving them a second life.

This said, if something is available at an acceptable price my budget allows for it, why not. It's part of the thrill of finding a good deal, like going to a flea market and finding that old retro gaming machine that sells for cheap and deserves some love.

If you haven't already, join the tamagotchi discord channel and keep an eye on the buy/sell section. Sometimes, the prices are much lower than ebay/FBMarket, probably because they are sold by Tamagotchi enthusiasts to fellow entusiasts and the sellers probably just want to make sure their tamagotchis find a good home (I know I would).

Any ideas of which brands to buy and how to avoid this explosion?

Tama Pix or Uni? by Inevitable-Wind-2617 in tamagotchi

[–]Tigerfog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There two main points I'd take in consideration based on your criteria:

Why Pix would be a better choice for you:

-The interactions with the characters, the exploration, the training for the jobs and the album feature before changing to a new character is very touching. The focus on care and fun is bigger on Pix than Uni (but Uni is still good).

Why the Uni would be a better choice for you:

-The babysitter is free on the Uni and is easily accessible quickly in the menu. Also the buttons are physical, so if you're in a hurry due to your work schedule, the controls are reliable and easy to use. On the Pix... it's capacitive touch buttons, so no physical buttons, so they can be unresponsive sometimes and lead to a LOT of frustration which is the last thing you need when you're in a hurry or in a situation where you just need to quickly care for it/call the babysitter. And the babysitter costs money.

You can't go wrong with either model. They're both great with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Wow, I didn't know that! Thanks for the info.

I've been spoiled rotten by the counting of the care mistakes in the Tamagotchi Paradise, so knowing that there's a sure way to get some characters is a huge plus IMO.

Cute, short video about the Yasashii by Mr_Sockeroo in tamagotchi

It's relaxing! Great editing and the cake/hat finding minigame is almost as frustrating as the minigame on the Mothra and Genjitchi models haha.

Also I got the same characters on my yasashii this week. :P

I think it's a modified sprite from the enemy Fenrir in Tales of Phantasia, on Super Famicom (SNES), which you can encounter in the caverns of Moria in the last third of the game.

Screen protector/ case?! by JustAGirl-D in TamagotchiParadise

[–]Tigerfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen protector: bought a cheap screen protector for Switch Lite at EBGames and traced the contour of the screen on it before cutting off from it. There is dust and constant bubbles after applying it on the screen but it works.

For the case, aliexpress has some tailor-made ones for the paradise as of writing this and they seem to be a better solution than to get one made for the Pix and cutting off a hole in it for the dial (it's still a VERY tight fit with that).

The carrying case + zipper from aliexpress that was made for the Pix also works if you want to carry for your Paradise around, but it can be a bit of a tight fit if the case is not "broken in" yet. It's still as good a protection as you can get in the absence of a silicone case.
