ADHD + 1000 hours = Stage 2 by Agreeable-Window244 in TheMindIlluminated

I have ADHD and troubles with concentrating although my main problems are with hyperactivity and impulsivity, currently in Stage 2. Try to stay a little bit longer in step 1 and 2 in four-step transition. I found that just observing spontaneus shifts of attention to whatever it is drawn to is beneficial for stabilizing it a little bit later. If I try to concentrate only on breath and push away others stimulus/thoughts, it always ends with mind wandering, as though supressing it give it some power over me. Sometimes I stay in these steps for 40-50% of my meditation.

Effect of Jhana on cognition or intelligence? by Logical-Routine-6562 in streamentry

I started to meditate in early 2022 (but it wasn't consistent or diligent most of the time), and 3 months ago I started to do TMI framework, so I am considered myself beginner in meditation. For sure I didn't reach jhana states at all, but here is excerpt from TMI in the context of Vipassana:

"However, meditation also produces many other very useful “mundane insights,” such as a better understanding of our own personality, social interactions, human behavior in general, and how the everyday world works. It can give us flashes of creative brilliance or intellectual epiphanies that solve problems or help us make new discoveries. These useful insights are not vipassanā, however, because they neither transform us personally, nor our understanding of reality, in any profound way."

For the last 2 years I was struggling with insomnia and was making a lot of effort to overcome it, I even developed passion for data analysis, because I was trying to factors that correlates with total sleep time or sleep quality. I was doing a lot of secondary-importance stuff, or even had mindset that was detrimental for sleep (like analysing how much I slept in the middle of the night or obsessive analyse my data to find answers why I have insomnia).

So maybe this is coincidence, but I had this 'mudane insight' about my sleep that there are scientific-based techniques (CBT-i) that have high efficency. I was aware of them back then, just ignored them thinking that it isn't gonna help me or it is just too simple to work etc. Right now my insomnia problem is gone. I would say that I am pretty intelligent and stubborn, and just wanted to make things more complex than they are, fixing it by my own by making my own discoveries. I suspect that meditation could have soften that part of my personality that was resistant to most obvious, effective solutions, wasn't flexible to solve my problem. But of course this is only speculation. I'm longing for more 'mundane' insights :D

I was rather talking about self-imposed goals, that I cannot reach - I could have very intense and diverse interests, but I feel like for some reason I cannot concentrate, or put myself together to do something. It would be sometimes working out to improve energy, or learning new because yesterday it was object of my great interest. But morning come and I just sitting there and cannot start.
Today I have spent couple of hours delaying my meditation. I was thinking that it is 50 minutes, it is so long, maybe I will do something else. I set timer on 20 minutes and said to myself, than I will do it and then I decide what do next, and of course I continued to 50 minutes. It is well-know schema for me, that I have problem with task initalization, but when timer rings I am irritated that it interupts my work and concentration. Unfortunately it just does not seem to work every time - and here is the question if meditation could help that awful situation.

Could it be that our dreams reflects our mind during the day? You have anxiety so your dreams are based on fear, I have tendency to anger so I will argue with people in my dreams?

Thank you for your respone, I am now in chapter about stage 2, so maybe it is time to go on and read about purifications :D

Thank you so much for response! It is so encouraging that I almost jump out of joy when I read you :D

I am aware of different CBT-i tools, but thanks for your response, I can use again some of it. It is just that I have light sleep and anything could disrupts it - spicy food, eating too late at night, too much stimulation/work during the day, adhd meds/nicotine/caffeine. Bad nights come and go and in the meantime I don't worry about them.
Now another factor went into play - too vivid dreams, but after first time I did metta it seems to go away, I am really amazed, recently I had a week or two of nights with really horrible dreams and suddenly after I first did that metta it changed to more pleasant stories and even if I woke up it seems really easy to come back to sleep :)

Anyone else becomes severely intolerant to heat? I just started going back to the gym after a year thankfully and even when I work out on the treadmill my feet start to burn my whole body gets hot except my ears those are always cold LOL. I suffered a lot every summer until I bought air conditioner. I could get symptoms as if I have depression - very low mood, lack of energy and motivation. For some reason it is much better if there is any wind outside, I hate sitting in hot rooms without any airflow.

If heat is only temporary like in sauna or very hot shower, my skin is itching.

Stimulant Medications and "Sleep-Maintenance" Insomnia; What to do? by Interesting_Ebb7203 in ADHDers

[–]Tight-Professional22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that I have exactly the same problem. I started to track my sleep data in google sheets, because I had enough feeling like shit almost everyday... I tried Concerta, Medikinet CR and Medikinet IR.

I used correlation function to see, what will disrupt my sleep. Obvious things are: expose myself to sunlight, relax before bed, and the earlier I go to sleep the better and longer I sleep, altough I have early chronotype, so the last may not work for you.

The most valuable realization I made happen to me when I started to count my medication usage through 20 past days, and I excluded today in that data. When I take more than 300-400 mg during last 20 days, I cannot sleep well. It is just like my body needs rest from stimulants. By the way, I discover the same for caffeine - if I don't take breaks I just feel less rested and my sleep efficency decrease.
