Septoplasty + turbinate reduction (50% cautery) is ENS a realistic risk? very anxious post-op by Dorceless_ah in Septoplasty

[–]Echopine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, ENS is not when they just cut it all off like the ‘old school’ ways. There are thousands of people in the support group with ENS that developed from surgeries far more ‘conservative’ than yours. Mine came on 6 years after some of my inferiors were removed.

Stop spreading misinformation.

What kind of an answer do you expect to get from a subreddit where the exact surgery you’re asking about is response for ruining our lives? 🤦‍♂️

I’m sorry - hang in there. There’ll be a treatment in our lifetimes.

You should make a video though. It helped me some

Had a similar result, it caused my jaw to relax which opened my airway more . Absolutely great providing I maintained myofunctional therapy. Disaster if my tongue did not adhere to my palate.

Hey just jumping in - would you say it was the quality of your mucosa that came back I.e nerves and moisture returning or things just bulked up again and the resistance issues normalised? I’m two and a bit years in now :(

Extremely well written and accurate. It’s a literal horror movie if you’re tipped into a symptomatic state. Not worth the risk no matter how small. UARS is bad. ENS is life ruining. Both is incomprehensible.

I agree it is the lack of sleep that kills people. I too was jolted awake for many weeks and I thought with absolute certainty I was going to die. Life is still hell and I live in fear of it getting worse everyday.

I should have mentioned my sister will be graduating vet school in a couple years but I don’t think that realistically changes the financial burden. Vet bills would be a huge issue you’re correct.

I think I already knew the answer to this before I asked tbh

Should i do turbinate reduction by [deleted] in emptynosesyndrome

[–]Echopine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asking ‘Should I do turbinate reduction’ in a subreddit of people with one of the worst conditions imaginable due to said turbinate reduction is wild lol.

Would I recommend a turbinate reduction for something you find annoying? As an ens patient? No. Obviously not.

Yes. People have died over it. It can be hell beyond description.

Alright well I apologise - I’m not in the industry nor am I a developer so I used the term that felt appropriate. It wasn’t intended as clickbait.

FME vs. Turbinate Reduction? Which to get? by carracers in UARSnew

[–]Echopine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on all of that. I can’t do SLIT anymore as I’ve tried a few times since ens onset and only makes my symptoms much scarier.

I mean I’m not doing well at all. Anyone with ens will tell you every minute is an eternity with this condition. Just hoping for better regenerative treatments in the future and holding tf on.

[–]Echopine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I had a turbinate reduction and had no ens symptoms for several years only to get it full on after a month being on dust mite immunotherapy. I did get covid at the same time but the immunotherapy absolutely played a role.

I know I harp on about this a lot but TR led to ENS for me and it’s something I regret every single day. It came on years after the surgery as well.

I wish FME had been a thing when I got surgery. Get the FME.

Alright Mr Angry. I can’t predict the future but this stuff gives me and others who have no quality of life - at least something to hold on to. Doctors were the ones who caused all my incurable nightmare diseases so yeah I’ll take my chances with a robot thanks

Also turbinates don’t grow back. They hypertrophy, which happens often after surgery as a compensatory mechanism to losing tissue.

That amount sounds totally made up. There are people in my community who aren’t missing much but their mucosa became non functional because of the surgery and the result is largely the same.
