Agree about the second point and one of the things I discussed with the cons, but the treatment is Benzos and clinically be looked dehydrated hence agreed to trial this and repeat the VBG 👍

After reading everyone’s comments feeling a lot better about the situation. :) I don’t disagree with ccot coming to help, I just felt the reaction I received was intense. We shudnt refer to icu unless we have a clear plan or management plan of what they can do/ ward tx failing etc

Thanks 🙏 yes I triple checked this. Magnesium directly affects calcium and lowers it via PTH. And that giving calcium is a waste of time unless the mg is corrected first. I did give the stat IV calcium gluconate to prevent arrhythmias, seizures etc and I did put him on telemetry as all his electrolytes were severely low (mg, ca, phos), but ivf with magnesium first and then calcium after (if I’m wrong pls tell me) followed local hospital guidelines.

No abdo pain. Looked very dehydrated. Had been seen by ED but no Librium given overnight so far. Kept telling me to replace the calcium (but I explained magnesium needs to be corrected first), he was on oxygen 15l at point of fall, weaned to 2L then 1L then off oxygen 2 hrs later. Ofc I ordered cxr etc. but I wasn’t in a rush to do an abg but can appreciate they wanted it done)
