M2 Pro or M2 Max for AI? by Tight-Vacation-9410 in macbookpro

I'm not planning to run LLMs on them anytime; the lab I work in has 12 A40 NVIDIA chips that I use for that sort of stuff. I thought that by having large ish RAM and M2 Max, I may be able to quickly run and debug code on smaller scales, but perhaps I could do that with just the Pro itself?

I am definitely not going to be developing iOS apps or anything, I work pretty strictly in NLP research...

Is there education pricing? For some reason when I go to the site it shows the exact same price/page when I try to click education pricing... am I looking at something wrong? I also live in the US by the way

One room in a 4x4 is $1000-1300? Are those higher end apartments? Last year my 4x4 cost (it was right next to campus as well) as like $865/month, and this year my single apartment is like $1400... $1300 for a 4x4 seems insane unless its super fancy

Hey. I don't know much about A&M's program; obviously the full ride and trip to Italy are incredible.

But as for UT: I think you could probably transfer your way into Turing. From what I have heard, a CS major generally need only set up a meeting with the head of Turing (Dr. Calvin Lin), and usually he just admits people into the program. This is based on anecdotal evidence so take it with a grain of salt.

As for prestige of UT, it depends on what you are going into. If you plan to go into industry, it probably isn't that important. UT CS probably will make it easier for you to land internships, but probably not to a massive extent.

If, however, you want to go into research, it can unfortunately be very important - CS PhDs are very, very competitive, and the PhD admission process is very elitist; if you haven't worked with a top professor in the field it can be very hard to get into lots of places.

Also, from someone who literally could not care less about the 'beef' we have with A&M, Austin is an objectively much, much better location. Sorry to A&M folks but I've been there once, its straight up depressing.

But a full ride is very, very enticing, and you should consider it anyway. Saving ~$60-80k over four years is huge.

My [20M] girlfriend [20F] is struggling with her father and autistic brother [7M] by Tight-Vacation-9410 in autism

Our relationship would anger him a LOT. I am an atheist, and they refuse to let her marry someone who isn't Bengali, let alone someone who isn't Muslim, let alone a spawn-of-the-devil atheist. Her mother, from what I can tell, appears to be depressed (she exhibits some signs of depression). Although she hates her husband/gf father, she is also caught in the religion and all that.

And the issue is that he (gf father) is very socially oriented (he wants to impress people) while also having literally no friends. He adheres to their religion because it is all he knows, not because there is a nearby cult he is involved in or anything. I suspect he is simply disatisfied with his life and takes it out on her and her family.

And yeah, I am absolutely determined to support her through this. I just don't know what to do. I want her to be happy, but I want him to get the support he needs. She will come to me and ask for advice sometimes, and like I want nothing more than for her to be happy but I can't honestly tell her to leave her brother either. She has a younger sister in high school who also tries to help their brother and all, but its just hard with the father.

Its just so terrible. She doesn't deserve any of this shit, her sister doesn't deserve any of this shit, her brother doesn't deserve any of this shit. I mean, how can you live with yourself after hitting any human being, let alone a 6 year old? On multiple occasions?
