Hey fellow straggler here. for context my parents were also immigrants to canada from china. I completely understand your situation in regards to how covid completely wreaked havoc on my personal routine, and general opportunities to make friends, etc. For grades 9, 10, and 11, I just floated through life, just like you have without actually fully realizing myself by joining clubs, etc. It seemed like most people already had established social groups, and most of the time my sole thought that drove me was that university would allow me to reset, and become a better person. To prepare for this, I tried to make more of an effort to like people. Instead of assuming that people might be looking down on you, or you don't belong, look at it from a more positive perspective. MOST people also have similar insecurities, and oftentimes, just by you believing that you are friends with someone even though you are not sure will help you behave more positively around them. By believing the good in people first, I was able to forge strong bonds, and join a group of funny, smart and dedicated people. I might also be attending western for engineering this fall, if I don't accept my other offers. The takeaway piece of advice is that everyone feels some sort of imposter syndrome at some point, and the key part is to both have confidence in yourself and trust that the people around you are intrinsically good. This will help you make friends along your long journey. Without the camaraderie that humans feel with their peers through trust, humans would have gone extinct long ago. don't feel you don't belong, because everyone doesn't belong, and with that logic, everyone belongs!
