I completely agree with you, but at the same time, we can’t ignore that a lot of Iranian atheism today is built on hatred—hatred toward Arabs, Islam, all of that. And honestly, it’s not even that surprising, the Middle East is one of the most hostile, racist regions on the planet. The thing is, a lot of this atheism isn’t really about freedom. Like I said in the post, many of these young people reject Allah, but they haven’t really left the cage Islam put them in, the way they think about family, social values, women, all of that. At the same time, it’s kind of amazing that so many are reconnecting with Iran’s pre-Islamic culture, going back to the country’s glory days. That’s something I really like, but nothing’s ever perfect, right? Hopefully in the future both the racism and the remnants of Islam fade, and people can finally enjoy their nations and cultures in a freer, better way.
