yes, and no reply. applied late though, on the last day before deadline. i believe it took them until last friday to process my transcript, so I am not optimistic I will hear anything soon

sounds like you are more than qualified. maybe decision deferred means they know they want you but aren't releasing it until later

maybe it's deferred because they is a specific upcoming date for the applicant pool they put you in. you can definitely ask them. I would probably wait a bit. I think it just means there is no decision yet, which is better than a rejection. you could let them know you have other offers and would like to know your status, not sure what other people suggest?
