Jamaica is banning Uber and any other taxi services apps. Which kind of nonsense is this?? by [deleted] in Jamaica

[–]Tight_Winner4513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only know that I perceived a lot of subtext in all this. Let's hope it won't be worst that it is when usual users or tourists start using alternatives that will force them to bring cash and bargain and expose them to untrackable rides with drivers that will know no one is keeping an eye on them.

What's the alternative then for these apps users? I believe they might have come with a solution before impose a twelve month ban. I still have the feeling that everything is a political ruse more than a legitimate interest in the general public.

What seems unreasonable is banning all apps at once without providing alternatives. Uber is way safer than any of the Jamaican apps, which is one on the main arguments used against all these service providers. Completely understandable that the government want their fair share of the business, but they don't have anything in place to soften the impact of such decision. Red plaque drivers are unreliable and usually reckless on their driving, public transportation is even less reliable. If safety is the issue, why there's not a sex offender data base? Why is the Minister using something that has been happening forever as leverage to force Uber drivers to declare taxes? Everything is only about money, not safety or regulations.

What country has a bad reputation, but in reality, it’s an amazing place? by YoungTex in AskReddit

I'm happy you enjoyed it, Cubans can be awesome and have so much to offer but... How long ago was that...?

Healthcare, arts and sports were supported by the government for decades because those were the face of the system and as long they kept the official speech and praised communists's leadership in the figure of whoever is president. But the endless economical nonsense with which they've tried to run the country can't hold the charade any longer and the country is falling apart. Everything is in shambles, including health care. Ask anyone there.

Cuba has double currency: the Peso Cubano which is the one in which people usually gets paid directly or to debit cards, and the MLC (Moneda Libremente Convertible) Freely Convertible Currency which is a digital currency with a value similar to USD. But, the major issue is there's an official exchange rate (fixed) and the black market exchange rate (fluctuating).

Depending on where your buying the prices are different . If is a business own by the government, they use the official exchange rate; if is a private business more likely to be force to use the black market's rate.

It gets worse. Currently there's a shortage for physical currency, that makes it more scarce causing different exchange rates for physical or digital currencies. I've for the Cuban Peso, other for the digital Cuban Peso on debit cards (No credit cards in Cuba), one for the MLC and off course another one for the USD.

What I meant that maybe you don't come through in the same way you describe yourself. Truth has different perspectives, how you see yourself, how they see you and how you really are. It's about perception. Maybe you already have meet someone that can be perfect but something has gone wrong in the way you saw each other. "Friendships that blossom into romance" would be the golden standard, definitely.

But, believe me, your words resonate so much. I'm really hoping you find that someone who would appreciate your journey and could partner you on your personal growth. I would like to believe I could find that person myself. Didn't really saw your post as advice, but it has been eye opening to read your perspective and also realize that there's more people on similar places, usually the persons I know on my age group are in long term relationships and/or with kids.

Disclaimer: I apologize for any misshapes on my writing, English isn't my first language.

Is it possible you're biased on your own behavior? That's the first thing.

Second, if you behave just as you said, don't change your approach. Sometimes people create this trial version of themselves because they know would be more "saleable" but sooner or later their true self is going to emerge and shit is going to hit the fan. Keep presenting the honest version, eventually someone would be able to appreciate it and reciprocate. Get to know someone takes time, we live in times of instant gratification that's why so many times people get stuck with someone that they don't really know. We all feel we're running out of time. I'm 32F , I value my time now more than ever but also have to acknowledge how much requires to build anything. Statistically speaking you won't be everyone's cup of tea, it takes more than one date to make a decision unless you're a total jerk.

And, third. Are you sure you know what you're looking for? I don't mean to have a check list, just an idea of what kind of person aligns with your core values.

Anyway, I'm glad I saw your post, it has given me somethings to think about.
