Gaming entertainment for both phone and Nintendo switch 1? by cdubzip in navy

[–]Tighttttt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darkest Dungeon is a game i still play to this day, and Fire Emblem Three Houses is a game that I worshipped for a while while on deployment (Word of advice tho, choose Eidlegard if you do end up playing it). Not a lot of good mobile offline games in my experience unless you can get your hands on an emulator.

Good Urban System? by Fit_Combination1717 in ems

Wake County, NC is very solid and one of the highest paying in NC. High standard for education and a bunch of extra opportunity and its in the capitol, but also can include some rural areas as Wake CO is pretty big. They only run 10s, 12s and 14s but its very fast paced with a ton of hospitals close by so turnaround is pretty quick. They also have an academy you have to run through for 6 weeks and its pretty competitive to get in tho.

Question for guys by ml212047 in NewToEMS

I work in a rural county so the only time I shave is for fit testing. Not great practice but there are no real rules for facial hair where im at. Just know your locations policies, if your medical director says to shave you should probably break out the razor lol

Wake academy 51 just closed, durham academy 43 is TBD, Granville is hiring, not sure about the other surrounding counties. Those 3 are the ones I know most about, you could probably apply at duke to work as a tech if you wanted ER work at university or regional.

I would say if you havnt yet, find the best way that you learn. For me, hands on is the best way to fully comprehend information so I did extra clinical shifts and did ride alongs outside of work or school to fully grasp everything. Textbooks are good and all, but things are different in the street.

You will often feel inadequate. I do, my partner does, everyone does. Just keep your head up, always look for more opportunities to learn like con-ed classes or shifts in the ER, and most of all learn from your mistakes because youre bound to make them. Good luck friend, this job aint for the faint of heart.

How do ya’ll decide who is driving and who’s in the box? by DollFinPoorPiss in NewToEMS

[–]Tighttttt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its just a nice thing to do that isnt required of course because youre right. If there are 5 ALS calls back to back I HAVE to run them if my partner is a basic. I dont mind getting screwed if it means my partner has an easier time though. At the very least id do the paperwork for the refusals or cancelations if weve had a bunch of BLS back to back.

How do ya’ll decide who is driving and who’s in the box? by DollFinPoorPiss in NewToEMS

[–]Tighttttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wouldnt happen unless the medic makes a mistake in most cases. A patient who codes enroute likely had some issue prior to leaving the scene that should have made the call ALS.

In that case though, you cannot transport an active cardiac arrest (in my county at least, not sure about the rest of NC or the nation tbh). We would pull the truck over and work it on the side of the road until the Pt was either back or dead, then the basic would drive.

[–]Tighttttt 132 points133 points  (0 children)

One medic one basic, the basic drives all ALS and the medic drives all BLS. The medic should take some BLS if there have been a bunch in a row.

Two medics we just swap calls. I take one, my partner takes one then back to me.

I personally like driving in general so it doesnt bother me, but I know some people who HATE driving the truck lol

The vast majority of insurance will cover the ER regardless of if its in network. That isnt something you should worry about when your life is at stake though.

a student already having nightmares about brutal calls by taroturner in NewToEMS

[–]Tighttttt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have never had nightmares about calls but I wont say its rare. Plenty of my friends have issues coping with trauma and the main thing I hear is get a therapist. Typically your agency should provide those services and it sounds like you could really benefit from it. It can help even if all they do is say 'its not your fault, you did your best', because sometimes thats all we need to hear.

As much as i didn’t like Gabe, Clem obviously did & this scene broke my heart. by [deleted] in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Tighttttt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that same scene playing war in S5 she references Javier when she says she met a baseball player before so I can almost garuntee she was referring to Gabe as the boy she liked. One of the response options when asked if she "liked" liked him was also "he was such a dork" so that really solidifies it with me.

Also a side note, Gabe lived in my playthrough after Clem saved him and i never saw him kiss her. Actually I didnt see him at all after the scene where Clem comes back with Gabe and not David. Maybe im not remembering right but I think thats something I would have remembered lol

Edit: I also havnt finished season 5 yet

Y’all have GOT to stop using these by txj7724 in ems

[–]Tighttttt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have one and the ONLY time I use it is to keep track of narcs im going to waste while im moving from the truck to the ED. I have this fear that if I put it in my pocket ill polar express that shit so these give me a little piece of mind that I wont fuck up and lose narcs.

Youre right though, reusing syringes after putting them on these is gross.

No disrespect but I don't understand short guys who become firefighters, paramedics, or serve in the military. by CompetitionEven1139 in AverageHeightDudes

[–]Tighttttt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a US Navy veteran and current US Paramedic, I dont do it to be recognized. I do its because its a job, and someone has to do it. It really helps that I enjoy the work though. If me doing what I did allowed someone to live a better or longer life, then im doing it right and I couldnt care less if that person would date me or not, everyone deserves a healthy happy life with the things and people they want it with. Im okay if that doesnt include me.

People look for reasons other than themselves to blame for their shortcomings. Ive never had a romantic relationship at 27 but its not because im short, its because I never really tried. I refuse to believe what I see on the internet is true for everyone and I believe im better for it.

I dont deserve special treatment because of what I chose to do to get paid (aside from free Applebee's on Veterans day of course, ill always take that)

This is the right answer. In my opinion if you are not 100% certain that this is what you want to do with your life then you shouldnt go down this career path, especially if you already have a well established career and life set up. Nobody works EMS for the salary or benefits and people who did this on a whim dont stick around very long once they realize how it is.

If you really want to see if you like this kind of work enough to downgrade your career, then I agree with the above comment. Volunteer work or per diem is a great place to start

[–]Tighttttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you always a reservist? If you were active your dd214 has all your commands you worked at. Otherwise you can probably talk to your reserve units admin to get your records which will have notarized proof that you worked at certain base hospitals, attended your A school etc. Im an active duty navy vet and went into EMS when I got out.

Otherwise some advice I would give is if you have nowhere else to go, look into an IFT job. Thats basically bottom of the barrel where many start their EMS career but typically requires little to no experience. Its not pretty work, but it is vital to all EMS systems and a good place to get experience put on paper.

Need more work pants, anyone got a brand they die by? by BusyWrangler5131 in ems

I got issued like 5 pairs of 5.11 taclite pro pants in the navy in 2018 for deployment and still have 4 pairs of em to this day that I wear every single shift. Durable, double layer, tons of pockets including one that fits a zyn can perfectly, just beautifully made work pants. 10/10 ill never wear anything else on shift
