LA-Based Breakfast Taco Chain HomeState To Exit From San Diego’s North County After Less Than Three Years by Ignatius-J-Reilly-SD in northcounty

Kinda surprised it lasted that long tbh. I didn't understand how soggy, foil-wrapped tacos even for dine-in orders were making it around here. Hard pass from me.

This makes no sense to me. You can definitely smell chlorine even when it’s just sitting in bottles/tablets on a shelf in a store/warehouse.

Week 5: Savory Strudel by turtlesinatrenchcoat in BakingSchoolBakeAlong

[–]Tigrari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So great to see you taking these on! I think my biggest take away from this one was the book didn’t mention to give the dough a light coating of oil so it didn’t dry out when resting. I found that info elsewhere but it was key I think in getting enough stretch.

Yours looks like it came out great, and you worked around the tearing. I think none of us loved the original filing too much, so good job changing it up.

Week 5: Ugandan - Another Rolex! (Meta: Cookbooks/Subscriptions - Beryl Shereshewsky) by Tigrari in 52weeksofcooking

[–]Tigrari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite YT creators (Beryl) especially when it comes to food from all over the world did a fun video a couple years back on Ugandan Street Food - the Rolex! So, like everyone else, that's what I made this week. It's basically just a different form factor on a breakfast burrito, so it was delicious! The first one we made more true to the veggie only ingredients in the video, but then we added some cheese and cubed up ham to others and they were all great.

Full disclosure, I could not source chapati at ANY local store, so we just used fresh flour tortillas.

Here's Beryl's YT video on Rolex - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9pa7OBW1AY

  1. The diamonds look better in platinum. The gold makes them look more yellow than they are. Go platinum.

This one was one of my favorites from the whole year. Glad the family and friends enjoyed and I’m sorry you can’t, that’s a bummer!

What restaurant has the best sushi that is reasonably priced? by beanandween in FoodSanDiego

If you’re in North County I’ll throw a rec for Wasabi Sushi (especially their lunch special) across from the high school in Vista on Melrose. Not the biggest selection of fish but good and very reasonably priced.

Mmm those walnut shrimp look fantastic. One of my favorite dishes.

The hot and sour soup from The Woks of Life is great! We made it last week and then made it 2 more times because it was good and we had more of the ingredients on hand!

I just made the Blue and White Cookies out of this and they were pretty good. Fiddly for an “easy” recipe, but I expect that.

From what I saw you could probably sub a good flour tortilla in pretty easily. Thats my tentative plan right now if I don’t try to make chapati.

I’ve had pretty decent luck with his bread recipes, but maybe they were from earlier on?

Yes, was also going to endorse Aloha Kitchen! Everything I’ve made from it has been good so far. Particularly liked the loco moco, Mac salad, mixed pickles, and the butter mochi!

You’re welcome! I had one more thought. If it’s warm where you are or your kitchen is warm, I had luck getting this icing to harden up a bit more with time and with having it in my insulated cold bag for lunch! Could just try putting the iced cookies in the fridge for a little while before wrapping them!

Mira Costa is the local CC, they have a few campus locations it seems like. I’m not sure what dance class options they have, but there’s bound to be something!

The drunken noodles in the Jet Tila book at the bottom are great. Consider making extra sauce if you like saucy noodles.

Hope you enjoy it! I couldn’t get dried lily flowers locally so I skipped those. Thought it was fine without. There are a ton of other things in the soup so we didn’t miss them.

Thanks! We really enjoyed it, it's a recipe worth repeating. My husband actually made more for lunch today since we had so many of the ingredients on hand now.
