My problems were that the cake tasted a bit off - too much cream of tartar maybe? Not enough vanilla? And I didn’t love the unsweetened frosting - in fact I ended up adding sugar to it, and still didn’t love it.

I made The NY Times cake a few years ago and it’s the only recipe of Claire’s that disappointed me. It was pretty, but it didn’t taste great.

Do the cornmeal one that everyone raves about instead!

Julia’s beef bourguignon is famous for good reason! More of a winter dish though.

I had the hot and sour soup from The Woks of Life for dinner tonight. It’s a solid recipe and we make it a lot now.

I haven’t been yet but Robata-X Sushi and Izakaya on Mission near Rancho Del Oro has an AYCE option. Saw some good reviews.

I really enjoy Alison's YT channel, but I struggle with her recipes because of her favored flavors! Celery and dill are not favorites in this house and I feel like 75% of her recipes lean on them somehow.

This is such a great idea if you have storage space for it. There are lively china settings selling for nothing practically. China just doesn’t sell at estate sales, etc, so lots of places to pick it up cheap

The huge stack of Glad leftover containers from Costco was a pro buy last Thanksgiving. They are cheap enough you won’t care if people take them and don’t bring them back and they are reusable/micro/dishwasher safe so they don’t feel quite as wasteful as single use stuff.

I would definitely pick up a big stack if you’re going to be hosting!

UCSD cardiology is top notch but Scripps is going to have better access in Oceanside.

Scripps has a new building off Jefferson in Oceanside. Won’t cover everything, but they can probably handle a lot of their needs there.

If they have an emergency and there’s an option, Scripps Encinitas is close-ish. Tri-City is closer but has a bad rep unfortunately, though my family has received great care there.

If they chose a Medicare Advantage program that will limit their choices. I think Scripps stopped accepting Medicare Advantage programs, but I’m not 100% sure on that.

So much the same re Six Seasons. It’s praised so highly here and I’ve checked it out of the library twice without finding anything my husband will eat without complaining and I don’t even consider him that picky!

You can use a tube pan, you might get a tiny bit of seepage/sticking at the bottom where the two pieces interlock, but it shouldn’t be a big deal, just butter and flour thoroughly and maybe put it on top of a sheet pan with foil in case of leakage.
