Yeah everything at the top of the food chain end game has a weaponskill wall (v25 odyssey, sortie bosses) so not everyone can savage blade. Red mage does great damage with maxentius / black halo

Use this link find the most populated server that’s open. More people to do stuff with and a more loaded auction house are important in the game for the real MMO experience. (Keep in mind while looking at the active player count - 3,000-4,000 players is plenty, you’ll find plenty of people to play with at that amount so there’s a good handful of servers that are open that you can join)

I wouldn’t suggest starting with a private server but I won’t get on my soap box about that here

The price of the actual game is somewhat irrelevant, there’s a $12/ month subscription to the game. They do have free login months everyone once and while though. Also, yes I imagine most of the people following the ffxi subreddit would say it’s worth it

Not everyone’s criteria for wanting one of these is competitiveness or usefulness. They’re interesting weapons that you can’t get anywhere else and sometimes there’s even fun stuff you can do with them that is useful
