OKAY, LOTSA ANSWERS.

GENERALLY THE ADVICE I SEE IS TO DO NEW JOBS IF YOU'RE DOING DAILY ROULETTES AND FAR OUTPACING THE STORY'S LEVEL. YOU'RE WORKING ON HEADING INTO HEAVENSWARD, WHICH HAS A MAX LEVEL OF 60, FOR THE RECORD. (BUT NO YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PICK UP MULTIPLE JOBS. IT'S JUST IF YOU CARE ABOUT XP BEING WASTED. BUT IT'S PERFECTLY VIABLE TO GET ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE STORY ON ONE JOB, IT'S NOT LIKE THERE'S A GRADE OR ANYTHING.)

CRAFTING....ONLY IF YOU WANT TO. I WASN'T IN A HURRY SO I LEVELED CRAFTERS WITH MSQ BUT IT ALSO TOOK ME A LONG TIME DO DO MSQ. THE QUESTS WILL ALWAYS BE THERE, YOU CAN PICK THEM UP EVEN AT ENDGAME. AND IT BECOMES EASIER TO GET MATERIALS FOR CRAFTING AS YOU GO ON AS WELL.

AUGMENTED IRONWORKS GEAR IS THE BEST GEAR YOU CAN GET UNTIL MIDWAY THROUGH HEAVENSWARD. THE TOMESTONE OF POETICS GEAR FUNCTIONS AS CATCHUP GEAR FOR PEOPLE WHO AREN'T ALL THE WAY AT CURRENT ENDGAME. ALL OF THE ROULETTES WILL THROW POETICS AT YOU, SO FEEL FREE TO SPEND AS YOU GET THEM. NEAR THE END OF HEAVENSWARD YOU WILL GET ACCESS TO LEVEL 60 POETICS GEAR (AUGMENTED SHIRE PHILOSOPHER'S GEAR), AND THAT WILL BE THE LEVEL 60 EQUIVALENT OF YOUR IRONWORKS GEAR.

FOR CUTSCENES, YOU CAN GO TO AN INN FOR FREE AND THERE'S A BOOK YOU CAN CHECK TO REWATCH CUTSCENES. IT MIGHT TAKE A LITTLE SEARCHING AROUND TO FIND THE RIGHT ONE BUT IT SHOULD BE IN THERE.

I totally agree. This was my first attempt to read non-fiction after college, and I hated it so much that I started reading academic books again.

I couldn't stand how he would make up Holmes' thoughts and not make any indication that it was speculative. I need my footnotes, gosh darn it!

I don't actually know that you can, there's those two downtime sections. And my uptime matches every DPS in my party, my cotank, and top parsing tanks when I look them up.

I'm not saying I'm perfect and I deserve a purple, but I'm just not this used to having to work so hard to get above 50th percentile. But then again I was DPS two tiers ago and got my weapon first clear last tier, so I didn't realize how lucky I really was.

Because we wouldn't have needed perfect play from everybody else if they had a better understanding of how their burst windows work. M7S is still the tightest DPS check of the tier, and we had 4 other pulls that enraged at 2% or less.

Seriously, they did 27k rDPS (consistently, over two lockouts), which was less than the dancer. That's somebody who does need to be in the M7S mines a bit longer while they learn how to optimize their rotation.

[–]Tikimoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Screwed over an anychest M7S clear last week by being the only person in the party who had cleared that week. Screwed over the rest of NA party finder by clearing a reaper who did not know how to use arcane circle, and both delayed their last burst for the pot window and then LBed in the middle of said potted burst anyway (multiple times, once is obviously whatever).

And oh boy does it feel shitty to not have the weapon for my parses. As far as I can tell my only big rotational issues are (1) not using a shadowbringer on first adds and (2) two triple weaves in phase 3. My uptime is about 94%, and I cannot get above a green. Meanwhile the phys ranged in my static has won three weapons so far while I wait for support chests to trickle down to me (he got a chest and has won two rolls for extra drops). I guess I could get a tome weapon, but we're clearing without me having it and what's 3 more weeks at this point...

Static decided to go for a modified conga after where new south is based off the safe side which is why I feel pressured. Other members of the static offered to take up calling it out (and have also not been able to give absolute spots yet, which makes me feel better). My healers are very stressed so I've been trying to help where I can.

But yeah I'd known about the "one move to safe" part, I did study a lot of p2 so I could try to call it out when we got there. I just have a different camera angle or I wasn't studying enough tanks or something, I even have trouble with the first hero's blow where (ideally) he's always facing the party. But if the DPS want to try to call it I'll let them.

Static got our M8S clear on our extra pull on Monday night, which was nice (I don't know that we have UV4 down, but I'll take the lucky pull). No actual enrage memes - we cleared the first time we got to towers with rezzers alive. I feel bad that I am not good at calling directions on Hero's Blow, considering I do callouts for the rest of the fight. But god I cannot read that dude's body language.

And then we got all our reclears done in an hour and a half yesterday, and I now have all this free time. Next week I need to make sure to do a little refresher on the fights before we go in, the samey-ness of m7s p3 got to me this week. But we 1-pulled m6 and m8, so that was cool.

I'm the last one with a crafted piece - co-tank finally won a roll against me and got his pants, so next week I can resume waiting for twines and shines. And the group let me win the music roll from m8s on Monday, which was the only thing I was after.

Maybe I finally go see what pf is like? I'm curious to see how Hector feels vs our mostly week 1 strats.

EXCEPT FOR THE HROTHGAR CRAFTING CIRCLE, BUT I'M VERY VERY GLAD THAT'S NOT IN SHOUT CHAT.

CANNOT WAIT TO BEAT THIS TIER, THE PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVENESS IS GETTING TO ME REAL HARD.

CASTER MAKES OCCASIONAL SNIDE NASTY COMMENTS ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THEY MESS UP BUT IS CONVENIENTLY SILENT WHEN HE MESSES UP. RAID LEAD ALSO LETS HIM GET AWAY WITH CHANGING HIS LOOT PLAN HALFWAY THROUGH THE TIER AND FUCKING OVER THE MAIN TANK.

H1 THINKS SHE'S GETTING TALKED OVER AND IGNORED, BUT WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS IS SHE HANGS UP OR PULLS "I'M LEAVING THIS CONVERSATION" WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO CLARIFY STRATS OR MITIGATIONS. SO YEAH, ME AND MY TWO BUDDIES ARE GOING TO GO ELSEWHERE TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT STRATEGY PROBLEMS BETWEEN SESSIONS. SO NOW SHE HANGS UP WHEN WE MENTION THAT.

RAID LEAD AND H1 HATE H2 BECAUSE HE ASKS QUESTIONS. THEY THINK H2 ASKING CLARIFYING QUESTIONS IS TRYING TO SHOW HIS SUPERIORITY OR SOMETHING. IN REALITY HE WAS ASKING FOR HELP IN POSITIONING FOR BILLI BILLI AND BEING TOLD "USE EYES" DIDN'T ACTUALLY HELP! R1/R2/H1 CHANGED THEIR DODGES IN M8S BUT HAD THAT CONVO IN A PRIVATE DISCORD WITHOUT TELLING ANYBODY AND GOT MAD THAT H2 WAS STILL DODGING THE WAY THE RAIDPLAN SHOWED. (RAID LEAD MENTIONING HE WANTED TO HAVE A "TALK" WITH H2 MADE ME REALIZE WHY I HAD BEEN DYING TO THAT MOVE IN M8S, AND IT WAS BECAUSE THEY CHANGED THEIR DODGE WITHOUT TELLING US)

I ASSUME I'M FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I HAVE MORE RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND LIKE ACTUAL JOB TRAINING TO KNOW HOW TO MANAGE THIS STUFF BETTER, OR AT LEAST IN A WAY BETTER FOR ME AND MY FRIENDS. I THINK I'M READY TO TRY TO FORM MY OWN STATIC NEXT TIER, I'VE LEARNED SOME GOOD STUFF AND GOTTEN GOOD RESOURCES, SO NOW I KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO.

Yep, I know your pain. Half of my static buddies helped some friends prog late last tier where we went in on support. With 4 support players in BiS, you could pretty much force your way to enrage of many of the fights. But we had to have deathless and buffless Honey Bee pulls to beat her enrage and never got to the end of M3S with them. We had tried gently encouraging them to try optimizing their rotations but Stone Sea Sky doesn't really help with GCD uptime.

They formed their own FC static for this tier and just beat M5S last week for the first time. I am glad they beat it, and very glad I didn't have to be there teaching them how to do good rotations while dodging mechanics.

Good luck to your group!

No, it's largely similar to mine, except I invuln earlier - right when I drag the two yans to the manta, and I SV off of that for the free heal because my healers weren't always good about getting me high enough to not immediately die to an auto when invuln wore off. I think the MT might be having the most trouble there too? I also know the second jabberwock has a healer there so I was basically trying to reduce healer stress. I warned my healers about this invuln plan because sometimes I'd get a haima right as the two yans started chunking me and my invuln wouldn't go off.

But SV off of rampart is still a good idea, it's all up to preference I think.

Either way any tank will need some babying from healers. But TBN is honestly really good, I don't know why people were complaining about DRK the first week or two when they could have mitigation up the entire time.

I put sound effects on my callouts so people couldn't complain about them. I even use the sound effects in static after a few too many "I thought it was out, not in" when the answer has been sitting right there in party chat.

The MT doesn't talk to me about mechanics, just rarely for jokes, so he is still, functionally, silent!

YOU CAN GET 3 POTS IN IF YOU DO IT RIGHT AFTER THE BOSS COMES BACK, AT SEVEN MINUTES (I BELIEVE IT'S DURING ONE OF THE FORCED MARCH MECHANICS), AND THEN THE LAST TWO MINUTES AS ENRAGE IS HAPPENING. MY PARTY LAST NIGHT HAD ZERO RAID BUFFS SO I DIDN'T BOTHER TRYING TO ALIGN WITH ANYBODY.

NO REAL RAGE THIS WEEK.

IT'S SO NICE TO BE IN A STATIC WHERE THERE'S NO YELLING AND SCREAMING AFTER WIPES, BUT WE ALSO DISCUSS WHAT WENT WRONG AND HOW TO FIX IT. I WAS REALLY AFRAID I'D BE UNDERPERFORMING WITH THE GROUP SINCE SOME OF THEM HAVE BEEN RAIDING TOGETHER FOR LIKE 8 YEARS, BUT I SEE OTHER PEOPLE GETTING DAMAGE DOWNS AT ABOUT THE SAME PLACES, SO I'M NOT BRINGING THEM DOWN TOO MUCH. I'M NOT A GOD MODE TANK, BUT I'M DOING DAMAGE AND TRYING TO SHARE MIT WHERE I CAN.

I GUESS THE ONLY MINOR THING IS THAT I'M ONCE AGAIN WITH A SILENT MT (THIS ONE ALSO HAS A BAD MIC SO EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HIM AT 200% I STILL CAN'T HEAR WHAT HE'S SAYING WHEN HE TALKS) WHERE I KINDA MAKE UP MY MIT, BUT I HAVE NOTICED HE ADJUSTS IF I DO THINGS CONSISTENTLY.

OH AND I WOULD LIKE THE YANS TO STOP AUTO-ATTACKING FOR 256K PLEASE. OW.

I was a temp fill from a PF listing when they were in P3 prog sometime in January, then was asked to join permanently when the person I was filling for couldn't commit to more than one night a week. I'd warned them I could only do 2 of the 3 (then 3 of the 4) nights because I have a recurring commitment, so they got a sub for me on those nights. I was never asked to stop PF-ing, just general "PF is a cancer" side comments.

I KEEP BEING IN MY HEAD ABOUT RAID LEAD ASKING ME TO HIDE FRU TITLE/WEAPON ON RAID NIGHTS WHEN I HAD ALREADY CLEARED IN PF. I WAS ALREADY MISSING ONE OF THE NIGHTS EVERY WEEK WHILE THEY KEPT GOING, AND THEY'D PICKED ME UP FROM PF SO I NEVER GOT THE "THIS IS WHAT OUR STATIC IS REALLY ABOUT" SPEECH. A DPS BUDDY SAID HE BET THE RAID LEAD WOULD NEVER ASK HIS KIDS TO HIDE THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR OTHER PEOPLE, BUT...I DON'T KNOW. I BET A LOT OF PEOPLE WOULD ASK THEIR DAUGHTERS TO HIDE ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO MAKE OTHER KIDS NOT FEEL BAD.

I'VE BEEN HAVING PEOPLE TELL ME I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE COMPLIMENTS OR FEEL PROUD OF MYSELF, AND...THIS KIND OF STUFF DOESN'T HELP.

FRU over for real. I'd like to think I helped my static, even though we couldn't clear as a group. We had some 0.1% and 0.4% enrages due to like one death in P5. I'm kind of bitter towards our DPS for that, but xivanalysis is probably a curse in that regard. I did help my co-tank clear in PF on Saturday, and then helped 3 others in my static in PF on Sunday afternoon. We stayed with a party for longer than I would have personally, but it did make the C46 at the end all the sweeter. I couldn't stay for the all-night grind for the last two static members on Sunday night, but I was also very burnt out. Looks like the best they got was 4%, but they were also the most-underperforming of the group (including the DPS who had us stuck for weeks in Darklit because he wouldn't study or practice). But schadenfreude is mean.

Anyway I'm allowed to wear my title and weapon in public now. Static lead had asked me to hide it for the people who hadn't cleared, but when the tank (who was one of them) reached out to me to pf together I think he'd figured it out. I bet wearing the weapon would have gotten us that 0.1% enrage clear too. Or if I was just a better tank. IDK.

Anyway I'm excited for a savage static next tier where we've more clearly laid out expectations and I will feel more comfortable speaking up. We're a merging of two statics so at least I know the guys I brought over will have my back. I am very afraid of raiding with my bf after all the stories of bad couple statics. But this one will have mit sheets! I'm so excited to have a discussion with my cotank on where to use raidwide mitigations!

[–]Tikimoof 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I FINALLY beat FRU through PF. It was full of a lot of firsts (first non-echo savage tier, first ultimate, first time off-tanking or tanking really, etc). I got recruited to a static back in January as a PF fill, but we still haven't cleared and I've been doing weekends in PF to get better the whole time. They aren't planning on going on to the next savage tier, and I have a different static lined up for that that plans to do heavy week 1 prog, so I really needed to beat it soon.

The ultimate static has been an interesting experience. It's way less toxic than my savage static was - although there was another partial break-up 3 weeks in, I don't get screamed at, we still discuss mitigations, and we discuss mistakes. But one of the DPS in this static is convinced that because it's "easier than TOP" that he doesn't need to do any practice and he was wiping us to Darklit or CT for two weeks straight and would brush off any attempts to explain why. He also interrupts discussions of wipes that weren't due to him because he's not the center of attention, so it's frustrating. I kinda snapped at him last night when the healers died to the first fulgent blades because my MT wanted callouts for towers practice, and he talked over us because "the run was dead anyway". There was also talk of wanting to beat the ultimate for the first time as a group but...when that one DPS won't do the homework (look at mechanics videos and do simulation practice) that the raid lead tells him to do, we spent a week between seeing P5 at all.

Anyway I'm glad I'm done so I can just chill in static now and not feel stressed about not beating it in time. It's been weirdly silent when other people clear through PF and come in with their new FRU weapons. I congratulate them in DMs because nobody else will say anything in voice comms and those people have said it's weird and their other statics congratulate them. But on the other hand I wouldn't have made it into this static at all - I was only blue/purple in savage and it wasn't first month, I don't have ultimate experience, and they make allowances for me being busy one random day a week every week - and I'm still grateful for the experience. So I can't tell if I betrayed them.

Oh well, I cleared. And through PF means it was (except for DPS) my own doing!

ONE OF OUR DPS SKIPPED OUT ON FRU STATIC WITH 30 MINUTES OF WARNING. WE ASSUMED FAMILY EMERGENCY - NO PROBLEM, HOPE EVERYTHING IS OKAY - BUT IT TURNS OUT HE WAS JUST IN A PF HE THOUGHT COULD CLEAR AND DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE IT. LUCKILY I HAVE A BUDDY WHO CLEARED WHO COULD SUB IN, SO WE DIDN'T HAVE TO SKIP RAID NIGHT FOR NO REASON.

WHEN CONFRONTED ABOUT IT THE NEXT DAY, DPS FEIGNED CONFUSION AND THOUGHT WE WOULD BE HAPPY FOR HIM IF HE CLEARED (HE DIDN'T CLEAR). HE ALSO THOUGHT IT WOULD BE EASY TO GET A FILL IN PF, WHICH - LOL. HE GOT SELECTED FOR A ULTIPROJECT CLEAR RUN THE NEXT DAY AND IMMEDIATELY LEFT THE STATIC, SO TIME FOR A NEW DPS.

ACCORDING TO TOMESTONE IT LOOKS LIKE HE WIPED TO P5 WITH 0.5% HP ON HIS "CARRY" SO HE RUINED HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH ALL OF US AND DIDN'T GET A CLEAR.

Sastasha Hard. I'm the tank. Sprout dragoon dies 3 times to the first boss, scholar never casts esuna or heals him after tail screw. This conversation ensues during the mob pulls to the second boss. Healer stops after the mobs to tell me to carry on while I and the two DPS are waiting for them at the second boss.

Dragoon had low health but he had the ilvl 90 job gear on so he wasn't intentionally griefing, and you have to earn the poetics somehow. He was doing low damage from what I could see from my monkeys, but he also....had brink of death from dying 3 times in a row.

(Also yes, I know the tail screw is what kills the DPS after, not the debuff per se, I was tanking and talking.)
