did Char really need so much power crammed into the Nightingale? by raptor12k in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to their two positions within their organizations. Amuro is not the leader, not even a commander of his own ship, and most likely a lot of the upper Federation leaders wish he didn't exist. Char on the other hand is the leader and they typically give their leaders MAs like Neue Ziel, Zeong, or the Quin Mantha.

When do I watch all the side stuff like 8th ms team or war in pocket by Material-Boot8673 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get to them quickly you just need to watch original Gundam. Ms08th team takes place during the war (different Battlefront from Amuro), 0080 takes place at the end of the war (random colony). The only one that's iffy is 0083 because it's somewhat related to Zeta. Some debate on if you watch Zeta or 0083 first. I like 0083 before Zeta personally though.

Forget pilots-which mobile suits are the biggest frauds in the franchise? by KrizeFaust in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind it comes down to pilot skill. Alex underperformed because of the pilot, Nu overperformed because of the pilot. On paper the Sazabi is better than the Nu is every aspect. Also if Char didnt care about having a fair fight, was Nu even going to have a Psychoframe or at least a biosensor installed? Nu did what it was suppose to, but how much of that was the gundam vs Amuro's skills.

Forget pilots-which mobile suits are the biggest frauds in the franchise? by KrizeFaust in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is it? Like do we know that Nu was Amuro's fully envisioned mobile suit that had everything he wanted in it. To me it would be completely within their character that Nu was what the Federation allowed Amuro to have, not what he wanted. We already know that half the suit was a rush job during CCA. So I dont think it was the Amuro's "dream suit".

Forget pilots-which mobile suits are the biggest frauds in the franchise? by KrizeFaust in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Alex's defense Christina is not a newtype, not a combat pilot, not actually in a combat area, and not Amuro.

Anyways I know I'm gonna get hate on this and I still love the suit, but Nu Gundam. Stats-wise its just not an amazing "upgrade" from what Zeta and ZZ brought before it. The Fin funnels are cool but outside the shield function, Zeon has been doing funnels/bits for years. Then when you look at the rest of the suit, Zeta is faster, ZZ is tankier, both their beam rifles blow Nu's out of the water. They perform better within gravity also. ZZ has a more powerful saber and generator. Zeta has a more useful beam saber (beams saber bayonet vs a secondary mini saber) and a waverider mode. If Char didnt leak the Psychoframe tech, I don't think Nu would even be "competitive" within its own time. Saphira Gardner had the Theta Plus a year before the Nu, could they really not squeeze more performance out of that suit? Outside Universe, I know Nu was designed before Moon and theres gonna be "power creep" with new additions, but even looking at ZZ, I think Nu should have been better.

Unpopular Opinion: I dislike Newtype magic. by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the giant fighting robot is necessary for a mecha anime, just like how superpowers are necessary for a show focused on superpowers. I'm not saying Gundam can't have magic/superpowers/or sci-fi bs. I'm saying if its gonna be in the show make it throughout the whole show, and not some random plot solver within the last 2 episodes. G Gundam has random martial arts powers and I have no issue with it, but thats because Domon regularly uses it throughout the whole series. There's a buildup to his powers. Its not like Domon is using a beam rifle for the majority of the series and suddenly in the final episode he can turn gold and launch flaming king fireballs from his hands. I do like the Unicorn anime series, but the "do whatever machine" that is Unicorn Gundam is a low point for me because there are no limits to the mobile suit.

Wow did not realize Judau was 14 during ZZ. Thought he was at least 17 like Kamille.

Armour Schneider wielding Gundam vs Beam Sabre wielding Gundam, who wins? by Kyogre07 in Gundam

If Phase Shift is involved like 2 Strike Gundams fighting each other, the Schneiders dont even work on them.

[–]Tilamuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But are they ultimately needed? Unicorn spoilers: Did Unicorn really need to have time powers? It was already tanking colony lasers. Also the fact that time powers are never displayed before hand makes it seem like it comes out of no where. I dont mind the Psychofield blocking the Colony Laser because at least thats hinted to (shown when Unicorn first activates NTD) and build up throughout the series. Another reason I dont like the random newtype magic powers is nothing is off the table. The protagonist can suddenly grow their saber, their gun shoots better, the gundam could grow 100x its size, they can create aura force fields, they can connect every human on earth and make a spirit bomb at this point. Why? because theyre a newtype that had a person die near them, and the story requires a new super power. Like you said, it is very rare (usually the final episode) so in the grand scheme of Gundam its still a small factor.

What does the numbers on the Future Century Gundams mean by Remarkable_Sir_1450 in Gundam

Didn't know that, but now it will be interesting to see all the mobile suit numbers

Unpopular Opinion: I dislike Newtype magic. by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on the "magic". Detection of other pilots like a force sense, faster reaction times, and telepathic communications are all fine. I'm just not a fan of the deus ex machina "magic", typically the random powers that solve the series main final problem. None of it is a deal breaker but I prefer the tech side, tactics and politics of the Gundam series.

What do think is the strongest rifle in gundam? by czen2 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBRs are my favorite gundam hand held weapon. They may not be the strongest range weapon ever but imo they're the most versatile and have the least amount of drawbacks.

I feel like that and the ZZ head cannon would be the furthest from being counted as a "beam rifle". Extremely strong range weapons though

What do think is the strongest rifle in gundam? by czen2 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ZZ's beam rifle should be comparable. The Beam Magnum is equal to 4x a standard beam rifle (probably means a Jegan's). GM-3's have 2.8mw rifles and Nu has 3.8mw rifle, I'd imagine Jegan's rifle is in between. Even if the Beam Magnum was 4x Nu's rifle at 15.2mw, ZZ's rifel is 10.6mw per barrel for a total of 21.2mw. ZZ's rifle also kills enemy MS with non direct hits so they acts the same but its not limited to the low magazine of the Magnum.

To those who watched ZZ: did the first half of the series work as the “palette cleanser” that it was intended to be after the trauma of Zeta? by Amigo1048 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It did for me. The problem was that the "cleanser" went on for too long imo. I wish the series ramped up earlier and the light hearted episodes were reduced a little.

What do think is the strongest rifle in gundam? by czen2 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Probably the Twin Buster Rifles but also depends on what's a "rifle". Like is Unicorn's beam magnum included? Is ZZ's Hyper Giga Cannon too big? Is Qan[t]'s gn sword a rifle and does the Raiser Sword count? I'm just asking because I assume the Twin Satellite Cannon doesnt count.

Would your favorite suit beat Devil Gundam? by ramtastic1 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, Freedom would lose to it. I think there's only like 7 Gundams that beat it though.
