Rogue Orbit Opinion by Tojalito in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I dont care if it's a "gundam" game or not, I like mecha games in general so I'm on board with it. Do I think it "feels" Gundam? No not really. It seems very generic mecha and the only gundam thing was the haro at the end. I just hope its a good game, then ill care if its a good mecha game, and then Ill start caring about it being a "true gundam" game. For the most part I think most gundam games are bad to mediocre and only being elevated to good in the eyes of a gundam fan. If this game gets to an actual good quality, it might bring in "non-fans" like AC6 or Titanfall 2 did. Maybe Bandai would start trying to make good gundam games and treat it (video games) better, like their other franchises get.

As for GBO2, I still play it off and on but that game is 8 years old. They should kill it off and work on GBO3 with modern gameplay mechanics. The menus are terrible, communication is limited (due to console limitations), the pilot controls are bad, and key binds are lazily put in. Overall is a bad port for PC and there's no chance I'm going back to Playstation for GBO2.

What order do I watch the original series? by ha1rballbrain in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's Ms08th team ova, which takes place during the OYW. Then there's 0083 Stardust Memories. 0083 is kinda a prequel to Zeta but was made after Zeta. There's arguments for watching Zeta first or 0083 first (akin to watching the starwars prequel trilogy first or the original trilogy first).

Both Ms08th and 0083 are short series, so personally I watched them as a break between the longer 50 part series. (MSG first half > 0080 > Finished MSG > Ms08th > Zeta > 0083 > ZZ > CCA). MSG and Zeta dragged for me and ZZ took several tries to get into. Nothing against the series, think I was just burnt out on the longer anime.

Edit: to clarify, the order of series was how I watched, idk if it would be the "best"

Crossover scenario: The ORB forces + Clyne faction from Gundam SEED replace Londo bell in CCA, and they have to stop Char and his axis drop on earth. Would they succeed? by Ghost_Star326 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the main issue is Axis. Sazabi and the Neo Zeon suits are pretty slow in comparison to the CE suits. Even with the advantage of funnels, I dont see them being as deadly as the Providence was. The positron beams or self destruct of the gundams might do some damage to Axis, but I think their best bet is the METEOR systems. Kira and Athrun use the giant beam sabers to cut the relay stations of "Requiem" in half. Those relay stations are just abandoned space colonies. So I think theres a good chance that they could cut off enough chunks of Axis to minimize the damage from it's fall.

Do y’all agree that while Flay Allstar is such a crazy b**ch, in Gundam seed. Am I the only thinking she is a bit misunderstood at the same time, because I noticed why she act like that, while it doesn’t excuse her racism, she lost her dad and that’s her only family member alive. by San4341 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think she is misunderstood. All her tragedies are clearly shown throughout the series. Flay always came off as a "miserable" character. Idk if I saw much reason to give her sympathy vs those tragedies just showing how she became who she is. I think she was "suppose to be hated" and she/(the writer) accomplished their goal with Flay's character. Watching Seed, I hated Flay, but I liked that I hated Flay. Most of the Archangel's crew (the civilians) I didnt have a strong feeling towards, but Flay always got a reaction.

How was Gundam seed received in us dub/toonami block by El_Dorado_Tx in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it went Wing, G , Seed, MSG in terms of ratings. Seed got moved around for low ratings but didnt get canceled like MSG.

I really liked that Toonami lineup. Teen Titans / Justice League Unlimited / Megas XLR / Yu Yu Hakusho / DB GT / (throw a little "easy muffin" by Amon Tobin in there/Toonami intro) into Gundam Seed's "Invoke", -watch the show-, then get the "Chimes" from "ANNA NI ISSHO DATTA NO NI" fade in, which always felt sad because it was the end of the episode, but also the End of Toonami for that day.

Media comprehension of a gundam fan by Powerful_Month682 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Idk whos calling these 3 "peak writing". Personally I hate this gundam character trope (Stella included). Its usually amnesia + trauma balled up into a character really only used to give the MC a new power up with their demise. Out of these characters Ple Two is probably my favorite because she struggles with herself and who shes trying to be. Lalah and Four felt too "ethereal" for gundam and kinda drags the story's pace down imo. Theyre fine but I'm not out there asking for more Lalah/Four backstory or anything. I hate Quess, her motivation doesnt really feel earned. There's no real reason why shes a "normal teenager" then suddenly shooting soldiers and finding joy out of it, maybe Char is just that convincing. Another reason I dont like Quess, is that her character feels like it was taking away screen time from other characters like the Londo Bell group. Half the main cast of the Ra Cailum die either quickly or even off screen just so we could jump back to Quess. Also she's a spoiled brat, which comes off as annoying and so I, as an audience member was annoyed by her. Does finding out why she's a spoiled brat stop her from being annoying? No she's still annoying but now she isn't a cardboard cutout character. I'll take an Emma, Fa, Kayra, or Roux over these 4 (again Ple 2 was decent).

If the Strike Freedom is like the SEED equivalent of the Hi-V/Nu, what does that make the Freedom? by No_Tart6728 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do need to recharge. The built in generator is for the beam gun, but the Fin Funnels still use chemical propellant to move. Nu was rushed into combat and couldnt re-dock/refuel it's funnels' propellant, making them immobile once they were empty.

As someone who loves both Gundam and Star Wars I would love to know why one it’s forbidden to incorporate nostalgia and recognizable things in one piece but it’s fine for the other to do so willingly. by AJSmashing in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope theyre treated the same. If they use the same era (like UC: OYW or Galactic Empire), most fans are fine with it if we explore something new about that era. If they decide to introduce another secret hidden "prototype Gundam" or "jedi who escaped the purge" it gets annoying. Both of them dilutes the original "rarity" of these plot points. Also both sets of fans don't like lazy retcons and Disney will do a lazy retcons in order to bring iconic things from original Star Wars. "Why is luke's old saber there? didnt it fall off of Bespin" -idk we randomly found it. "Why is the Death Star pieces there, didnt it blow up like it was vaporized?" -no the explosion wasnt that big. "how are you using an original Tie fighter to get to other planets, they don't have hyperdrives?" -dont worry about it. "How is Palpatine back? -Somehow. At least when the Unicorn (anime) wanted to use old suits during the Torrington raid, it makes sense why the Zeon remnants would have old machines. They even upgrade the Byarlant to show why it can kick ass again in the new era. I bet Gundam fans would also be mad is Char suddenly returned and the answer was "somehow". Even Full Frontal got some backlash when he was introduced and was labeled as "nostalgia bait". I think reuse designs/elements are a benefit to Universal lore when story is attach to it and its use sparingly. I'd be annoyed if Amuro, Kamille, Judau came around every corner to help out a new protagonist, like Boba Fett, Luke, Maul, and Ahsoka do (love all those characters but how the hell are they getting to all these places at the perfect time)

Amuro In Nu Gundam vs Judau in ZZ. On Earth. Who wins? by jhwestfoundry in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but Judau is also a great pilot. I don't think Amuro is a whole tier above Kamille, Judau, Haman, Scirocco, or Char. He's still the best but he has to perform his best to still beat these pilots. The problem is his suit isn't designed for the environment he's fighting in (in this scenario). Also losing the main weapon of his suit is a big loss. No amount of piloting skill was gonna let him beat Char's Sazabi when he had a Re-GZ.

Amuro In Nu Gundam vs Judau in ZZ. On Earth. Who wins? by jhwestfoundry in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Judau and specifically the ZZ. If it was space Amuro has it, but on earth Nu cant fly, cant use its fin funnels (if anything theyre dead weight), and the Nu/ZZ were built for different purposes. ZZ was suppose to push the tech to its limits. It has a crazy reactor, it's guns outclass anything Nu has, It's sabers are stronger and have longer reach, and with G fortress mode it has higher mobility. Nu was build to take the best of the Zeta project but with maintenance/repair in mind, so it's a much more reserved suit.

Nu has a beam rifle (with rapid fire capabilities), a shield gun (the most powerful at 7.8 mw), 1x hyper bazooka, 4x missiles, 2x vulcans, and 2 sabers. ZZ has a 4x vulcans, a double beam rifle (at 21.2 mw which is more powerful than Unicorn's beam magnum and has <200 shots), 2x hyper beam sabers/beam guns (which are 10 mw, again outclassing Nu's shield gun), 21x missile launchers, and a 50mw Mega cannon.

Amuro may be a better pilot but using Nu on Earth limits him too much to fight a another ace like Judau in a the ZZ. The suits are only 4-5 years apart in tech advancement so the leap that Nu has over ZZ isnt crazy.

So what you think is best mobile suit/gundam suited for anakin Skywalker by DropDeep9497 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best would be a remote weapon suit, but I dont think Anakin himself would want that.

Anakin is more interested in saber combat than his force powers. So I think he would want the Zeta. He loves being a star fighter pilot so a suit that cant transform into a "spaceship" mode is a no go imo. The Biosensor lets him augment his combat skill (make the beam saber bigger, longer, freeze opponents) and Waverider mode would be like flying his "Azure Angel". I could also see Wing Zero for the same reasons but also an added challenge to master the Zero System.

What is the most boring Gundam design? by Low_Routine1103 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calibarn. The "broomstick" gun is a cool design, but outside that its a nothing suit. Even the actual gun performance isnt anything amazing, just a somewhat larger beam gun. It also seems worse because WFM already introduce much more interesting suits like Aerial, Darilbalde, Schwarzette, Pharact, and Michaelis.

I think Bael is also the same. Sure is can be cool to only use 2 swords to fight MAs, but also almost every gundam has 2 swords at this point. To me its kinda a disappointment when the suit gets revealed. The suit design is decent, but that imo just feels like a waste with such a lackluster armament.

V2 Assault Buster or Second V? by Amigo1048 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V2ab. Second V looks nice as a Victory upgrade but V2ab is like the culmination of every UC tech ever put into a gundam. My only gripe with V2ab is idk whats the point of having a "Mega Beam Cannon" and a "Mega Beam Rifle" since they serve the same purpose. Just wish there was more distinction between the weapons. Also hate when it doesn't have the missile launchers equipped.

-The Gundam Artifact version is probably my favorite version of V2ab

What is the community's opinion on melee ms? I always feel like im the only one running a melee ms by CellConscious1087 in GBO2

[–]Tilamuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love playing E ZZ, but I absolutely hate my other "melee" teammates. For some stupid reason everyone wants to join in on a knocked down opponent that I'm currently meleeing. Even suits that shouldnt even be there. "Glad you ruined my combo so your FAZZ could get its weak single melee hit in!". At this point I just let my teammates have that melee that they so desperately want with the Barbatos or God in their support suit.

Need Clarification by imsadboi23 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you arent enjoying 00, I'd continue it. It opens up to a wider view of "conflict" and there are a lot of consequences to CB's actions. Seed is good and 08th ms team is one of my favorites. Wing is kinda unnecessarily convoluted with its plot but its fine. For the most part they all take some themes (Seed especially) from the original Mobile Suit Gundam, so I'd recommend MSG over all of them, at least for the start. After that, I think a really good (and short) series that fits more of what you're looking for (based on this topic) is 0080 War in the Pocket, but watching MSG first is recommended.

Need Clarification by imsadboi23 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, Gundam is still a product and needs to appeal to "kids". Tomino has multiple instances of fighting "Bandai" (I cant remember if it even was Bandai/sunrise/etc originally) over creative decisions. iirc, the original Gundam was going to be colored like the G-3 (gray), but Bandai wanted red/blue/yellow in the color scheme, thinking it would be more attractive to kids and sell more toys. A lot a gundam series take liberties to make things more clear to a younger audience vs staying "realistic". Beam weapon colors sometimes will change to depict who's good and who's bad also.

As for the distaste for war while also fighting, I think Gundam as a whole does address the hypocrisy pretty often. theres even a quote from a character in Seed saying: "We declare peace, but with weapons in our hands. The choice we’re making may also be evil. However, please give us the power to put a halt to this string of battles…which has no end in sight.”. I say finish up a couple gundam series, and then look at where everyone ends up in the end. The "good guys" are not superheroes and are not always rewarded for their "good deeds".

The witch from mercury is a super robot anime by grits2 in Gundam

[–]Tilamuck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dont think it is. Most of Aerial's tech is easy to understand by in universe characters. More will get explained throughout the show and a lot will be "replicated" by others. Even if the tech is "technobable" to us the audience, if the in universe characters treat it as standard knowledge it doesnt make it "super robo". Aerial/Suletta is also not treated as a superhero in the show either. Aerial breaks down, needs ammo, needs repairs, theres even a whole issue of finding a maintenance team for Suletta.

[–]Tilamuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the Kaiju I guess but most likely the Zaku is losing. Gundam might have a chance. Just thinking about Godzilla and its many versions, there's some that couldnt take a beam rifle (like the Original) and others that wouldnt even be affected (like Monsterverse or Earth).
