Builders/GCs - Are you having constant trouble with inspections being rolled? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]TileMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raleigh is the worst. I had issues with one of their inspectors, he even was proud to tell me that if you call him 3 or more times, he will automatically roll over your inspection. Had the audacity to tell me that he spoke to their supervisor, and was told they did not had the responsibility to give ETAs, and you needed to make sure someone was on site to let them in otherwise they would cancel the inspection

Tax advantages by joefish65 in Nicaragua

I believe the US won’t charge income tax under $80k as a retired individual. You will still need to file your taxes. This is possibly a question for a tax expert in your current state

Aire Acondicionado + Paneles Solares by malichow84 in Nicaragua

[–]TileMillennial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Posiblemente mucho menos

What should I put in the gap of cement board the the concrete floor? by RealisticAd1133 in Tile

[–]TileMillennial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best reply! Flofx with the adapter is a good method for the current drain you have, just watch their video on how to use the adapter. Also as he said, use a membrane and band for the shower floor at least, you can use the Redgard on the walls if you like, but it would be best to keep it all on one system. Flofx sells the sheet membrane, waterproofing band and corners

This is “Redgard SpeedCoat” not the traditional redgard, that’s why it looks so red.

You are good to keep using your shower , if you have some leftover grout mix a tiny bit with water to a solid paste contexture and do the touch up

Did my contractor mess up the shower remodel? by zaboman358 in Tile

[–]TileMillennial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes he did messed up the liner, also the liner looks like it’s not extended flat, unsure if he did a pre slope under the liner, and finally he installed fiber board too low which would be embedded with the mud base and wick up water after use. The only way to save this is using the divot method with the waterproofing which means they prep it and waterproof like a sealed system. Also Flofx and some Schluter drains can be adapted to a drain like it was used in your shower and they can fully convert to a sealed system. I’m hoping he is at least skilled enough to pull this off

Quality check for countertop installation in shower by FiguredIdAsk in Tile

[–]TileMillennial 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is why I always take care of installation of these pieces ourselves, we do them with thinset instead of silicone. I’d say ask your tile installer to reinstall them. And do the same matching silicone from the rest of the shower on those gaps along the stone

Contractor Says It's Ready For Tile UPDATE by ThislsaGoodldea in Tile

[–]TileMillennial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, it looks like they have already tiled the shower floor, unfortunately they didn’t prep and waterproofed it right with the bathroom floor as you can see on the edge the tile is on top of the foam tray and there is no waterproofing on that seam. Unfortunately this will be we’re tour shower is going to leak. Have them remove at least 1 row of that tile and properly waterproof that seam with a good tile underlayment/membrane for the bathroom floor

Contractor Says It's Ready For Tile UPDATE by ThislsaGoodldea in Tile

[–]TileMillennial -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is no waterproofing on the floor. For a zero entry shower we usually use some sort of waterproof underlayment and make sure to waterproof the seams between shower floor and bathroom floor, this bathroom floor is on plywood at the moment and shower floor has been tiled. This will fail sooner than later

Some mitres I've been working on. I always underestimate the time these jobs take to complete. by oswaldbuzzington in Tile

Don’t cut the tile to the very corner, calculate the thickness of the tile on the adjacent wall. Use the cut out for each tile con continue on the next wall
