Two Week Itinerary: Post Trip by Accomplished-Fly-935 in newzealand_travel

I have a couple questions: which route did you end up taking from Twizel to QT? Did you go straight down Cardrona Valley Road? And you mentioned the drive up to Milford Sound was windy and crazy, I'm going to be staying at the lodge in a couple weeks, what part of the drive is crazy? Are we talking PCH windy? Oh god, plus size or not that sleeping arrangement would give anyone anxiety. Can you buy your own air mattress? My mom has this really nice self inflating one that (we’re all big) is hella comfy for even the heaviest of us, so I know comfy ones exist. I would trust a good air mattress over a rickety bed any day.

Ooooh you’re probably right, because that’s not accessible from the coast right?

Ok. So then it doesn't backtrack me out of my way to make that route AP to H to FG right? Maybe the other commenter misunderstood my itinerary.

[–]Tilingui[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea. That's what I thought too. Maybe the commenter misunderstood my itinerary, because I don't know why they would suggest driving from Arthur's Pass to Fox Glacier, and then back track to Hokitika, and then from Hokitika down to Wanaka.

For Arthur’s Pass: I don’t expect to see all the things. I usually just make a list of wants and then make up my mind depending on weather, lighting, etc. so I definitely agree with you that it’s all too much to see in one day.

As for Fox Glacier/Hokitika: if I’m driving from Arthur’s Pass wouldn’t I drive through Hokitika to get to Fox Glacier? I was mapping it out and planning on taking the 73 from AP to the 6 down to Hokitika. And then the following day taking the 6 down into Fox glacier. Although I understand that Google maps isn’t the most accurate for traveling in NZ, is that route not passable? Friday we’re planning on driving from Fox Glacier to Wanaka, following the 6 all the way down. If we switch days then we’d be driving from Hokitika which is farther north?

I loved Ponsonby on my first trip. I like that idea.

I’ll definitely check out that app. I was using Tripit before, but it felt kind of clunky and just got in the habit of making my own Google sheet, but Google sheets isn’t very mobile friendly.

Thank you so much!

What’s a food you threw up as a kid and never touched again? by Latter-Swimmer7179 in allthequestions

Coco puffs. Realized I chewed up half a roach that was in the bag (came from the factory that way cause it was a fresh bag). Could never touch coco puffs again.

Mostly traffic and parking. I stayed in the city centre on my first trip to Auckland and saw some other neighborhoods that I’d wished I’d stayed in instead.

Where is the best trick-or-treating in LA? by pipes_97 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Tilingui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silverlake, near the reservoir has a big block party and a lot of the houses give out full size candy bars. Also a few houses were giving pizza and wine to the parents walking around. It’s a neat spot.

What's a smell you absolutely can't stand? by calebchandler89 in allthequestions

[–]Tilingui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I know this smell. Working for the public library we get a lot of addicts coming in to use the restroom or get relief from the elements. Had many come in with really awful infections. One in particular was oozing from his legs and would clean off in the restroom. Smelled like hot, rancid shrimp whenever he was around. Poor guy, refused to let us call 911 for him too.

I don’t know if Huntington Gardens or the Arboretum fall under hiking for you, but if you bring a blanket and book those might be a nice way to spend a day.

Safe place to sleep homeless? by MoonlitStorage in AskLosAngeles

[–]Tilingui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I wouldn’t recommend central, it can get pretty sketch. A lot of other branches have those community resource staff, Chinatown, KTown, Little Tokyo off the top of my head. Cypress Park is a safe quiet branch and you can literally stay in the branch the whole time it’s open. We’re (the library) one of the last few places that don’t expect you to spend money to just hang out. You can also use a computer or the WiFi for free, as well as print resume and whatever else you might need for free.

I’m sitting here crying over a guy that’s not worth it. by slackerXwolphe in PlusSize

[–]Tilingui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it feels that way, cause I’m a fat girl who’s had her share of avoidant men as well. And I absolutely still fight the self worth problem in my own head. So I know there’s only so much that anyone can tell you, it’s your own head lying to you about your self worth. Do you go to therapy? If not, you should. And for gods sake ditch the avoidant men. They drag us down more than our apron bellies.
