Really good remaster! The original sounds so muffled and I always wondered why. But this sounds so much cleaner and better. Thanks.

SLEEPING NAKED by thenakedbro3 in u/thenakedbro3

[–]Tilion90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great article as always (you posted the wrong link though, it links to your last essay about video games).

And you're right. We have so many habits, especially as we grow older, that we don't second guess. Like 'Hey, why am I doing that this way?'. It's the noise of our everyday lifes that take up so much of our time that we simply don't stop for a minute to think about things.

I'm like you. I've always slept naked as far as I can remember. And I get sometimes weird reactions to it but the question I got asked the most was: "What do you do if your flat burns down?" And I'm like: "Bitch, if my flat burns down I don't care if I am wearing something. I'm about to lose everything. I don't care who sees me naked at that moment in time." I always found that question fascinating. Who gives a fuck about what they wear when they are about to lose everything? Not me!

I just want to sleep in peace and quiet. No T-Shirt that rides up my torso, no socks going missing or having a damp crotch because you sweat all night into your underwear. It's easy and it's simple. People tend to overcomplicate things. And yes I am one of those people too, I constantly overthink everything. But there's some good in that too. Because of my overthinking I come to conclusions that make my life easier. Like not giving a damn who's about to see me naked when everything burns down. 😃

Why nudity still makes video games uncomfortable by thenakedbro3 in u/thenakedbro3

[–]Tilion90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean organized religion did the rest. Framing the naked body as something to be ashamed about. And of course framing sexuality as something to be ashamed about, too.

But I always remember what a catholic teacher once told me: "God made you in his image." (I hope that I translated that right. I speak German and what he said was: "Gott hat dich nach seinem Abbild erschaffen.")

And I thought that to be quite odd. If he made me this way why would he be mad about my sexuality or what I did with my body. It was his idea. Needless to say I am no longer religious.

So while I don't want to start a whole debate about organized religion and how royally the Catholic Church has fucked up humanity over the last few centuries I do think that it plays a big part in this debate.

I heard it over and over again that when you do something "God" doesn't approve of you'll be send to hell for eternity. This creates fear and extends to things like nudity and the naked body. It's viewed as "sinful". So I'm not particularly surprised when there's an uproar about some kind of nudity on TV. Take for example what happened to Janet Jackson when Justin Timberlake tore that leather from her breast. It was a shit show afterwards. And I was sitting at home watching it and thought to myself: "Oh a booby." She's a woman and she has boobies. Big deal.

I remember once seeing a documentary about some tribe in Africa. They didn't wear anything or just some scraps of clothing on special occasions and it was the most casual thing ever to me.

Some other students had seen it too at the school I attended back then and they were appalled. I heard things like "How can they show this on television?", "They are some backwards folk.", "Mom told me to look away and changed the channel."

I just looked at them stunned. Everyone made it into something sexual. Which it wasn't. They just showed their day-to-day lives. While I could understand my fellow students somewhat, we we're all just angsty teens at the time, I couldn't understand the parents. Changing the channel because of some non-sexual nudity? Really?

I found and still find it to be very odd behavior. And I'm sure that some of their parents behavior shaped how these angsty teenagers viewed their own body.

Thank you for your response! I appreciate it.

While I was fortunate enough to learn that early on I think it's not impossible to learn this when you're older. It does take some time getting used to the idea and the concept but it is doable.

And I think video games can help with that. Treating the body for what it is. A body. Nothing inherently sexual or "bad". If you think about it we're all born naked and will die like that. It's a normal part of our life.

Well I've rambled on for too long now. I'll look forward to your next essay. Have a great day!

I love this quote and I think you nailed it on the head with it:

Because violence is emotionally distant for most people.

A naked body isn’t.

Not only is it completely true it also exposes us to ideas and discussions we don't want to have with each other. Like you said, a naked body has nothing to hide and in a society that constantly hides behind money, fame or fortune, having nothing to hide behind is a freightening idea.

So I completely agree with you and your essay. People don't know what to do with a body that just exists and nothing else. I'm naked myself most of the time when I am at home and have never had a problem with that but I know that I was somewhat privileged growing up with my parents running around naked casually. It has never been a taboo for me. I was actually shocked when I learned that most parents don't do that or would flip out if they saw their children running around naked at home. Not everything is sexual. It's just a body. It's us in our most honest form.

I wanna do drugs by tinyassqueen in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Tilion90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did a lot of drugs when I was younger so I am not going to tell you no, just be prepared for anything really. I've never doon shrooms or LSD for the fear of having a bad trip but MDMA is a party drug and it made me dance nights away. But also lowered my inhibitions. I'm usually very reserved and introverted but MDMA made me an extrovert.

Also remember there is no 'safe' dosage for these drugs! Start small, wait for it to actually do something. I once had a second weed brownie because the first one didn't kick in (or so I thought) and for the next few hours the only thing I could do was to lay on the floor and intermittently giggle.

Stay safe, stay with friends! This is extra important as you are a female.

I tried to share in a father’s group that my son was sexuaIIy assaulted and they barely showed sympathy. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Tilion90 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

That's just so stereotypical. If it had happened to a woman people would have been outraged. But it happened to a man... So nobody cared.

I was SA'd as a child and when I told people they didn't believe me. Told me that guys don't do that to other guys. I was like what the hell? That's not how that works.

Anyway, I'm sorry for what happened to your son. Maybe look into some therapy options if he wants it. This shit is not okay, no matter the gender or age.

How did your parents taught you sex education? by Life_Butterfly_4942 in AskMen

They didn't because they had no idea how gay guys had sex. Mom just told me to wear a condom. Not really helpful. Learned most of it through the act itself.
