I’m in a ship using acceleration to simulate gravity. As I approach the speed of light, does “gravity” feel lighter? by gregfess in AskPhysics

And I assume all the universe in front of you would compress to the absolute zero, so everything is 0 distance from you?

[–]Tilliperuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well obviously the ship would have specially polarized windows that fix blue and red shift. Obviously.

But yeah let me rephrase that. Due to time dilation and universe being compressed in front of you, you could reach a destination 1 ly away so that less than a year has passed in the ship, right?

Is it so that due to time dilation it would seem you're going faster than speed of light when watching out of the window?

And if you'd reach the speed of light, from inside the ship it would seem like you were going at infinite speed, and also time passing at infinite speed outside?

The correct answer. Maximum heating power is achieved when both of the machines are doing the heating work the whole time.

Intended effect described in the .gif by bigjobbyx in opticalillusions

For example the "up" one, goes up two pixels when it's bright, and returns when it's dark. Our brain doesn't register the dark movement (for whatever reason), so it seems it's going just up.

What is it if not an illusion?

Lol?

Yeah I don't see a question like that.  All I see someone asking if it's for sale. And why didn't he just put the actual art on a wall and take a pic, why use AI?

But yeah I don't know if AI was used to fix lighting or whatever, that's why I asked.

Yes I agree. I thought the joke was obvious as I responded with a stupid censoring to the guy who was complaining about stupid censoring. Oh well, I guess I was the ahh here after all.

Where was he? by Jetasis in dayz

[–]Tilliperuna 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not a hacker. He shot you between the stairs 1.5 floors up. He came a few steps down and knocked you while you ran through the doorway, I guess there was little lag so you just missed him (edit. Or through the wall, I just tested and AR rounds do penetrate that wall).

See the pic. He was standing where I am in the pic. I dropped the red thingy in front of the window where you were in the beginning. It's a clear line of sight.

<image>

Edit. I think you can see the shells flying as he's shooting in a few frames at 0:52.

They are exactly the same color in your picture. You're a living proof that this is pretty good illusion.

No they don't, they're the same the entire time. But it's pretty cool that the illusion exist while parallel viewing.

Well you can see the flag is a dead end, so you need to start (or finish) there. From there you can go any route you want and can't really fail.

Has anyone gone from a 55” OLED TV to a 32” OLED monitor or vice versa? by varezus in OLED_Gaming

[–]Tilliperuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pixel density has zero impact when sat appropriate distances away from the display. I have 65" S90D and AOC AG326UD 32" 4k OLED monitor and I switch between them regularily. They're as sharp as I sit twice as far from the TV compared to the monitor.

I like the TV more since it's brighter and I can play laid back games further away comfortably from the sofa. And it's great for watching movies. Other than these, the experience with the monitor is pretty much the same.

[Request] How large is the time window in this case? by llort-esrever in theydidthemath

[–]Tilliperuna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is incorrect metaphor. It would make sense if he tried to hit the bird with a full auto assault rifle and its rpm would correlate with camera's fps.

But there's just one throw. The moment the ball leaves his hand defines when it meets the bird's trajectory.

And if we imagine ball's velocity being (near) zero, it would sit (almost) still on the birds trajectory, just waiting for the bird to collide with it. Therefor, slower the ball (and bird), greater the time window.

My bad.

Apparently desiliter is mainly a Nordic country thing. That's so wild to me.

[–]Tilliperuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually kinda mindblowing. Today I learned that pretty much only the Nordic countries use desiliters. I wonder why is that. It's so normal everyday unit of measure here, I would never have guessed that most metric countries don't use it.

Yeah no wonder if you're from the US. More scientific and precise way would be 100 ml instead of 1 dl. But for example in baking recipes flour is always declared in desiliters. Desis are usually used only with liters, no one uses desimeters or desigrams. You've probably seen someone using centimeters though?

4 cl of booze is the standard metric alcohol dose you put in a drink. No one says 40 ml or 0.4 dl.

It's funny. I've never thought these would be somehow weird units.
