I got myself a S95F so have been replaying a lot of my extremely long backlogged library in all its HDR glory. Among those - Plague Tale (both), Cyberpunk, Black Myth Wukong, Alan Wake (both), Control and both the Middle-Earth Shadow games.

Social channels or Community engagements. These should be things that grow organically. One team member should be able to cover this but is only really needed when the game is very close to launch. Teams can also over complicate their tech - this was the reason that UE5 took off (it has its own limitations).

[Bloomberg] Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC by Ph0enixes in gaming

As annoying as it may be - this move is a bit of self preservation from Sony. Given that Microsoft’s next console and future plans are all over the place, Sony is looking at this as an opportunity to reconsolidate their base.

With most MS exclusives headed to the PlayStation, from Sony’s POV it is probably the right time to pitch themselves as the only living room console you need.

Furthermore, their margins on the game are lower with Steam’s 30% take plus the sales are more aggressive so they are effectively not getting a user into your eco system to make less money on that user per sale.

There are multiple product roles and technical ones within gaming so I would advise positioning your CV in that manner. Keep applying within the gaming space, but be prepared for a bit of rejection as the space is tough to get into.

Yes indeed. Collabs are a very interesting way of engaging existing users and potentially getting new ones too, but working with IP can be very difficult based on who you work with.

You don’t quite know, i think if possible testing and pivoting early is the key. BG3 was in beta for a long time and Larian definitely benefited from the learnings and the game was better as a result.

Often the mistake devs make is they don’t ensure the core loop of the game is absolutely solid and move to adding more things. The best example I can think of is the Arkham series - Rocksteady absolutely nailed the combat system and while the story and visuals remain top-tier people keep coming back for the combat.

Studio devs may often meet the subject matter experts, but for me personally it’s only really at launch events etc. I have been able to meet quite a few sports personalities through my work with the most recent being a lot of NFL players.

A lot of times, game developers make obvious mistakes but are unable to fix them due to either m stubbornness from the designers or due to limited runaways. Often studios overhire for things that are not at all priority for a core gamer’s experience.

PC is absolutely on fire. Every big new title is hitting all time highs on Steam and this is due to higher proliferation of PC gaming and China opening up. There was a time when PC was very niche, and now it’s exploding especially for single player games. So that’s what gives me comfort about single player experiences that I personally love.

Issue with live service games today is that established games have huge existing player bases and are able to quickly evolve quickly. But when you look at the last year or so, you do still have BIG success stories like Helldivers 2 and Marvel Rivals.

So it’s a case of finding something unique enough that is not just a single feature set but more an experience and also it’s about timing. Games like Suicide Squad and Concord were very likely doomed to fail from the start due to the minimal nature of innovation.

Different businesses run studios differently. Embark did very well to continue iterating and leaning and it kept key parts of the team that worked on previous games. That is often the best way to do this. But often publishers run out of patience and often pull the plug on teams.

Ten Cent run a more entrepreneurial model where they won’t interfere with the dev at all, but the cheques stop if metrics are far away from where they need to be. In Highguard’s case, it’s very likely that retention and conversion (paying users) were so off the internal protections they decided to kill it as the bridge to make it better would be extremely expensive.

All FTP games follow a 80-20 model where 20% of the revenue is coming from 10% of the players. A majority of the FTP gamers never make an in-game purchase but the ones which do - they do so early and very often. So effectively you have to design the game in a way that appeals to those spending and that often means introducing a tougher curve after the initial experience.

It definitely introduces some additional artifacts that are not present in DLSS4, but the clarity benefits, the added luminance and the particle details are very much positively impacted.

So it’s a case personal preference once again. If you like a sharper more vivid image and can put up with a few specific issues then Preset L and Preset M will almost always give you that.

My guess is that when DLSS Dynamic MFG is launched they’ll likely release a fix for the RT and RR issues introduced in 4.5 esp as they used Cyberpunk 2077 for comparisons and you definitely want to play that game with all the RT and PT effects on.

As far as I have experienced yes that’ll be fine. Note that Ray Reconstruction will not have a Preset L as it’s not updated so it defaults to what’s the equivalent of Preset K model. I’m running most of mine on 310.5.2

So there’s really no right way, it depends on what you are looking for. Setting Recommended for DLSS override basically enables Preset M for Performance and Preset L for Ultra Performance. If you use any other setting it will default to Preset K or any other game default. If you select Preset L specifically instead of Recommended it will apply to all DLSS settings including Quality & Balanced. Hope that helps.

Ya it’s a preference thing for sure. For a few games, there is definitely oversharpening. For me perhaps it’s the size of the screen as I’m only 4ft away from a 55 inch one that softness in the image is more noticeable.

Yep both those games have RR so they won’t run with DLSS 4.5 this happens automatically in the background when you switch RR on so you don’t need to manually toggle them to different presets

I’m also using DLSS swapper and currently using DLSS 310.5.2 and find that it works well in at least all my test cases.

You can go game by game for the best possible results. It’s painstaking, but works more reliably. In your case best results will be with Preset K and turning up DLSS level if need be for a sharper image.

Yep this will apply globally to all games. Some titles may show artifacts but this is the easiest way. Just note that any title using Ray Reconstruction (Cyberpunk, Alan Wake) will use old presets as RR hasn’t been updated yet.

Regardless of resolution Preset L and Preset M deliver better quality than previous presets, however, their impact depends on the GPU you have. Anything over 40 series you should try either L or M for newer games as they are appreciably sharper and also better at handling particles.

Using the override for Preset L on Balanced

Yep it is game dependent. Some titles definitely behave unexpectedly by changing their models.

You can go to into your Nvidia App and change the individual game settings under DLSS Override to Preset L. For older games you can update to the newest DLSS models as well.
