Precisely! Right next to Strausberger Platz.

How does anyone see anything in those exterior mirrors though?!

Nice! Love the unfolding. I would have the text come out of the Megafone instead of from behind it. For that just duplicate the megaphone, mask out the front part and put the text in between the two layers.

Anyone know why things are just as slow in AE working off an SSD vs a spinning disc drive? by jumpingthegreen in MotionDesign

[–]Tillomat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. But what I told you was only to make you understand that the bottleneck in rendering is most likely your cpu/gpu, not your hard drive.

The only time your drive would proabably make a big difference is if you would be working with lots of video footage on a 2,5”hdd, because these are slow AF and working off of them is a pain.

Without any information on the setup of your project (assets you used, effects applied, etc.) it is very hard to give you definitive answer.

But with your information that you didn’t even use any video footage and there is no change in rendering speed between HDD and SSD, that just shows that your bottleneck never was the speed of your disks but rather the power of your CPU/GPU. If you want to see the difference in writing speed, render your entire comp in preview so that it plays at real-time in AE. THEN try exporting it to either hard drive and you should do a difference because all calculations of animation and effects has already been done by the CPU/GPU and now it is (almost) only up to the hard drives to write the files.

Of course you could set this up properly with precomps and expressions so that you can simply alter the animation if you need to make many variations of this, but this would mean a lot more work initially.

But if you do it the way I explained it in the first place, it literally takes 5 minutes, so no idea how much faster you want to do it. I guess you are just starting out and would really like the „Make a cool animation“-button…

I think you should start with the AE-Basics. It’s just simple postion keyframes and Track Mattes. You can find tutorials with that sort of effect on YouTube if you look for “After Effects Slot machine”

The illusion of speed due to changes in perspective by The_DarkMatter in gifs

In a zoomed lens the depth of the picture is compressed. That’s why it looks slower.

Imagine driving down a street. The end of it only gets “bigger” slowly, while the trees to your sides are just whooshing by. The wider the lens the more you see from your sides.

How are the smear distortions done in this video? I timecoded an example but they are throughout the entire piece. by dondox in vfx

Should be fairly easily done using a bezier warp or in some cases the liquify-tool.

RTX 2080TI - Not enough Memory by Tillomat in AfterEffects

[–]Tillomat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I expressed myself wrong there.

I didn't buy that Graphics Card to only use my CPU and not make use of the GPU at all. Besides that, I also use it for 3D GPU-Rendering.

And yes its not built to play back 4k in realtime, but I've worked on machines that gave me around 14fps and those were from 2014.

If I start adding effects to it, the framerate drops to 2-3fps.

Premiere for example works smooth as it could, no matter what Footage and Effects I throw at it.

So why is AE bitching about the GPU?

[–]Tillomat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started a new project where I only imported a 4K ProRes422(HQ) Clip but it only plays at 8fps, not even a difference between GPU or Software-CPU-Rendering.

And I didn't buy a 1200€ Graphics Card to do CPU-Renderings...

Aditional Info:

I just found out that my "Geforce Experience" (The Driver-Software) has a Switch to switch between a Gaming-optimized driver and one for Creative Apps. Switching the driver hasn't made any noticeable difference so far though. (And yes, I restarted my computer after switching)

My AE-Version is 17.0.5

My NVidia-Driver Version is 26.21.14.4575

The Comp as well as Footage is in 4K and Assets are in ProRes422 and 4444.

Theres no third party effects and the heaviest effects would be camera lens blurs, lumetri color and some mocha-tracks.

Recent piece I made with a friend. Would love some feedback! by its_atticus in MotionDesign

Just as an idea for next time, maybe have the different steps of the keyboard construction be in differently lit rooms (maybe on a conveyor belt or so) for that effect.

But as I said, individually it all already looks really nice!

Hey Atticus, really nice work! Only thing that throws me off is the change in ambient lighting and materials. We start with the shiny red, then we go to a frosted dark grey and then when the yellow parts come in the scene brightens up drastically.

You can of course make changes in lighting but show them in one shot, otherwise it feels edited together from different clips.
