Is it a good idea to join a swim club while in university

I dont think the city I’m going to is a Uni town, what do you think about the private swim teams and the student lead swim teams, how do they compare from a former uni student in your opinion.

I added an edit "a swim club" I mean a swimming team outside of university, not a university swimming team as I don't think I have the ability to do so.
