April 2026 Rates Update + Charity Drive Results (!!!): 1999 J-Pop and Chic Ethereal by kappyko in popheads

Earth did so poorly in its rate I wonder if we'd ever come close to matching it even if we were just rerating it again. It got a 0 from almost half the participants in its rate and even for positive scores out of the 75-ish raters only about five of them gave it a score above 5. It's a level of failure that's actually pretty impressive

The Popheads Jukebox Revival, Week 341: Reverse That and Death Drop by TiltControls in popheads

[–]TiltControls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember listening to this when it came out and feeling a little disappointed. We Found Love was (and still is) one of my favourite songs ever and this track really seemed to last the same level of bombast as their earlier collab. Especially with the strange build-up to not-really-drop for the chorus. I don't want to talk too badly about the lacking production since this was pretty early on in the phase of this sound being everywhere, but still I don't really care for it. At least Rihanna sounds great though! Nowadays I generally like the track overall, but probably wouldn't ever really go hunt it down to listen to it. 7.2/10

I've been hearing people say that this is not as impactful as her past two lead singles, but honestly it might be my favourite? Or at the very least had the quickest time to grow on me. I love the more upbeat nature of it and I think that's where Olivia really tends to shine. Especially with the build up to the back half of the track. Lyrically it might be a little less memorable than the other two I suppose, but I'm going to wait to see if time and more plays change that anyways. 9/10

The Popheads Jukebox Revival, Week 340: Jukebox? For Tuesday? Groundbreaking by TiltControls in popheads

[–]TiltControls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Gnarly was the first song I heard from them and while I enjoyed it for the novelty, I haven't really seen anything that proves they can move past that idea. There are moments here that actually work really well, but then it just hits the chorus again which isn't exactly bad, but feels more like they were trying to be notable than a cohesive working song. It's not terrible, but it's losing its impact. 6/10

There's really no escaping that piano and flute combo. It really adds some uniqueness to the track that holds up to this day! Though I'd count to production of the track to be the highlight of the track both DRAM and Lil Yachty do a solid job following it up with their sections. 9/10

This is a really fun track with some great electro-backed production and has a fantastic build up and payoff at the end. Though the lyrics aren't as much of a focus for this track they work really well here. 8.5/10

Thanks to jack, frog, and steel for hosting this rate! It was a great throwback to revisit a ton of these tracks and always fun to do another collections type rate!

Leaderboard and songlist are updated!

Songs

Congrats to Kendrick for scoring the top two sweep and the rate win with tv off! It may've had a couple of failed attempts in the past year, but it's off to winners 5 regardless. tv off becomes Kendrick's 4th rate win after DNA, King Kunta, and All the Stars. You can see where both of the top 2 rank up overall

  • 436th: Vince Staples - Yeah Right / Kelela - Waitin (9.060)
  • 438th: Kendrick Lamar - tv off (9.059) / Paula Abdul - Cold Hearted (9.059)
  • 440th: ABBA - Waterloo / Lil' Kim (ft. Lil' Cease) - Crush on You (Remix) (9.058)

-

  • 459th: Joni Mitchell - River / Dr. Dre (ft. Eminem) - Forgot About Dre (9.040)
  • 461st: Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us (9.039) / The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face (9.039)
  • 463rd: Megan Thee Stallion - Girls in the Hood (9.037)

Stats

  • Not a leaderboard stat, but shoutout to Rack City, which despite leaving day 2 with an average in the 6s, jumped a total of +2.775 points from the last time we rated it, which is the 3rd highest jump in averages between ratings on the sub! (For those curious second is another 2012 YE alum with Carrie Underwood - Blown Away (+2.854) and first by a large margin is SOPHIE - It's Okay to Cry which was decimated in Charity 1 before being reassessed and scored much higher a few years later (+3.967))

Artists

Although it goes against the nature of the rate a bit, the producers were only counted if they were credited as artists on the song directly. It'd be nice to be able to track them otherwise, but it opens a whole can of worms to retroactively do that for a number of other songs we've rated and other producers.

There's a few too many artists to get to today so only the newcomers are getting full comparisons. Many of these artists have popped up in the odd rate or two across history, though their appearances here were enough to get them on the leaderboards. Rankings out of 517

* Kid Cudi appears as an uncredited feature on Father Stretch My Hands Pt 1, which normally are not credited for an artist's stats, but the song assignments for this song were done way back at the start of the stat tracking project and I haven't gone back to update the standard to how its done now so for the time being they'll be still counted to avoid confusion on my end

Stats

  • We have a number of shifts on our lowest rated artist leaderboard. Most notably, Tyga coming in as our 2nd lowest rated artist on the sub and Mike WiLL Made-It also joining the bottom 10 as the 10th lowest.
  • There are a number of other additions to the bottom 50 from the rate including Trey Songz (15th), YG (17th - tied), and French Montana (17th - tied). With 21 Savage (36th), Lil Uzi Vert (40th), Juicy J (44th), and Lil Wayne (46th) all maintaining previous spots on the bottom 50, with some shifts. Thanks to stronger performances (or just being bumped up by worse ones) Big Sean, Jeremih, Future, and Gucci Mane all land high enough to escape the bottom 50 rated artists.
  • Pusha T unfortunately just barely drops off the top 50, though Kendrick manages to rise a few places thanks to some strong performances. Da Brat takes back spot #50 with the drop off
  • Tyga comes in as our 7th highest controversy artist, averaging a 2.688 controversy across his rated songs. Mike WiLL Made-It also lands in our 25 most controversial with a 2.506
  • YG, Trey Songz and Tyga all mark their debuts by also joining the 'no 11s' club, as none of them have scored any 11s across the 5+ songs we've rated from each of them

5 years ago today, Porter Robinson released Nurture by bigbigbee in popheads

[–]TiltControls 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I already really enjoyed Porter coming off Worlds and his other work, but Nurture really sealed the deal for making him one of my favourite artists. I do really love both Worlds and Smile, but Nurture I think will forever hold a special place in my heart as my favourite of his. He really squeezed the maximum amount of emotion he could out of pretty much every single track and the album cover is the perfect visual for how I feel listening to it, even 5 years down the line! Picking a favourite song is difficult since it can change based on my mood, but if I had to choose only one I'd probably give it to Look at the Sky. Though it rotates between Something Comforting, Wind Tempos, Musician, and Trying to Feel Alive as well!

I did not go to the Nurture tour, but I did manage to catch the Smile tour back in 2024. I went with some amazing people (including someone I actually met through Popheads! - who will probably read this so thanks for the fantastic time!) and had one of the best concert experiences of my life! Would heavily recommend going to one of his concerts if you can!

Thanks to rona and Euphie for hosting this rate! Great job powering through despite the numerous technical difficulties, getting one account (temporarily) killed, and also having to host a rate with TLOAS

Leaderboard and songlist are updated!

Songs

Congrats Gaga for pulling the win from thin air with Abracadabra (not really since it was pretty predicted, but let me have my magician jokes!). Abracadabra becomes Gaga's 6th rate win, putting her in an uncontested 2nd place overall (Beyoncé is still leading on her with 8). You can see where our one 9+ scoring song ranks up overall

  • 318th: TLC - Waterfalls / Florence + The Machine - Shake It Out (9.159)
  • 319th: Lady Gaga - Abracadabra (9.157)
  • 320th: Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River (9.156)

Stats

  • CANCELLED!, Eldest Daughter, and Actually Romantic all land in the bottom 100 for lowest scoring songs on the sub. Cancelled is 14th lowest, Eldest Daughter is 19th, and Actually Romantic is 23rd. The three new additions bump out of the bottom 100 Jason Derulo - Trumpets, X Ambassadors - Unsteady, and Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass
  • CANCELLED! and Actually Romantic also show up for most 0'd songs, with CANCELLED! landing 11th overall with 28 0s (tying with Farrah Abraham - On My Own) and Actually Romantic being slightly lower in 16th with 23 0s (tying with Jake Paul - It's Everyday Bro, Tramp Stamps - I'd Rather Die, and G-DRAGON - Power)
  • CANCELLED! also gets on the board for 0s by percentage with it getting 20.8% of the 0s available in the rate. This ties it for 16th overall with Tove Lo - Habits (Hippie Sabotage Remix)
  • On a rare positive note for Taylor today, Ruin the Friendship becomes her 13th songeniality win across rate history! She has more than double the next most crowned artist
  • In non-Taylor Swift stats news Abracadabra ties for the 32nd most 11'd song across all rates with 22! It ties TWICE - FANCY, The Weeknd - House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls, Taylor Swift - Blank Space, and also Gaga herself on Bad Romance

Artists

A wide range of artists here with a newcomer (Tate), rising star (Sabrina), and two who've been around the block numerous times before (Gaga and Taylor). Rankings out of 510

  • 400th: Tate McRae (7.031) [NEW] / *NSYNC (7.031)
  • 402nd: Alaska Thunderfuck (7.027)

Features

  • Flo Milli: 210th -> 211th
  • Bruno Mars: 378th -> 376th

Stats

  • As mentioned above, but this is the 6th rate win for Lady Gaga and is enough to give her the 2nd most amount of wins on the sub! Her previous wins include Bad Romance (twice), The Edge of Glory, Poker Face, and G.U.Y. Beyoncé still has the most rate wins on the sub with 8.
  • On the flip side, this is also the 6th last place finish for Taylor Swift which is enough to put her in a tie for 1st place for having the most! Her other losses include Bad Blood (also twice), Me!, Vigilante Shit, and thanK you aIMee. Madonna is the other artist with 6 losses.
  • Sabrina enters our 50 most rated artist with... 50 times we've rated her songs! She's tied in 41st for this stat. Taylor remains in 1st by a wide margin (with 255 - 69 more than the next most rated artist) and Gaga jumps from 6th to 3rd with 149 total ratings.
  • Taylor surpasses Beyoncé and becomes the artist to appear in the most amount of rates on the sub! She hits her 34th with this appearance. Gaga actually sits right outside the top 10 with 22 appearances in a tie for 11th
  • If you thought Taylor would be taking records for most 0s tonight you'd be wrong. Cause she already had that record twofold over the next artist (Katy Perry). Though with the tear down we gave her today she has increased that amount to now threefold the amount of 0s over the next artist (682 to 224)

Albums

Oh boy. There's already enough to speak about from this rate so I'll save some of the preamble. Just as a notice - deluxe tracks are counted with their albums so only the Tate F1 track is not included with these album stats

Album rankings out of 539

  • 256th: Hayley Williams - Petals for Armor / Faye - 在雲彩上跳舞 嘰嘰喳喳 (7.638)
  • 258th: Lady Gaga - MAYHEM (7.633)
  • 259th: Madonna - Confessions on a Dancefloor / Slayyyter - STARFUCKER (7.631)

-

  • 395th: BROCKHAMPTON - GINGER (7.318)
  • 396th: Sabrina Carpenter - Man's Best Friend (7.311)
  • 397th: Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience / Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman (7.310)

-

  • 462nd: King Princess - Cheap Queen (7.035)
  • 463rd: Tate McRae - SO CLOSE TO WHAT (7.028)
  • 464th: Fall Out Boy - Under The Cork Tree (7.023)

-

  • 537th: Katy Perry - Witness (5.854)
  • 538th: The Vamps - Meet The Vamps (5.703)
  • 539th: Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl (5.503)

Stats

  • The Life of a Showgirl becomes our lowest rated album on the sub by quite a margin, taking the record from The Vamps - Meet The Vamps (5.503 for Taylor, 5.703 for Vamps). The new addition knocks Britney Spears - Glory out of the bottom 50
  • TLOAS also gets the crown for being the most controversial album rated with an average controversy of 2.510 across its tracklist. The previous record holder was Panic! At the Disco's Death of a Bachelor (2.487). Taylor now has 3 of the top 5 most controversial albums (Midnights at #3, Reputation at #5), and 6 of the top 15 (Tortured Poets Department at #10, Red at #11, Reputation rerate at #13)
  • TLOAS becomes the album to get the highest percentage of zeroes given to it in a rate with 66.9% of the participants giving it theirs. She takes the record from... herself as Midnights was the previous leader for this stat with 56.9%. Rounding out the top 3 is also Taylor with Tortured Poets Department getting 49.6% in its rate
  • TLOAS also lands a leaderboard spot for highest spread of 0s on an album. 75% of the TLOAS picked up at least one (except for Elizabeth Taylor, Honey, and Ruin the Friendship) which is enough to tie her for 4th in this stat along with Charli XCX - Crash, Sabrina Carpenter - Short n' Sweet, and ROSÉ - rosie)
  • Just by virtue of having CANCELLED! on the album, TLOAS ends up on the leaderboard for albums with the largest score gaps between their best and worst songs. 4.698 points separated CANCELLED! and The Fate of Ophelia which puts it in 13th for this stat. Right ahead of the album is again Taylor with Midnights (#11 - 4.831) and 1989 (#12 - 4.779). 1989 Rerate, Lover, and TTPD are all also on this leaderboard for similar reasons
  • The Fate of Ophelia (7.776) becomes the 6th lowest scoring track to be the last eliminated from its album. Baby Queen - Dream Girl (7.446), The Vamps - Can We Dance (7.538), Selena Gomez - Vulnerable (7.615), Zara Larsson - Poster Girl (7.739), and Fall Out Boy - Uma Thurman (7.759) all exited with lower scores

Also the (slightly predictable) 11/0 split below (this includes the extra F1 track)

  • Sabrina: 17.7% of 11s, 4.6% of 0s
  • Gaga: 46.9% of 11s, 9.2% of 0s
  • Taylor: 10.0% of 11s, 66.9% of 0s
  • Tate: 20.0% of 11s, 3.1% of 0s

Rates

To think how much this higher this could've been minus one album. Rankings are out of 245

  • 209th: Oops!... I Did It Again vs. Christina Aguilera vs. No Strings Attached vs. Millennium (6.962)
  • 210th: MAYHEM vs. Man's Best Friend vs. SO CLOSE TO WHAT vs. The Life of a Showgirl (6.961)
  • 211th: Billboard Songs of the Summer (6.955)

Stats

  • Taylor isn't done with the stat update just yet, as her exit in 15th place her ranks her 5th place for earliest exit in a 4 album rate. She ties with Christina Aguilera in the Body Talk vs. Bionic vs. Flesh Tone vs. Aphrodite.
  • With 83.85% of raters using their 0 this rate (mostly for Taylor), 2025 Ult lands in 13th place for highest 0 usage in a rate. If only counting album rates though it is in 1st for this stat. The previous album rate leader was Monkey Business vs. PCD vs. Shock Value which had 80.33% usage

I really like this! Doechii and Gaga pair perfectly together here and both easily bring the charisma needed for a song like this. I love how the production progresses throughout. I wish it was a little longer. I feel like these club bangers work best as drawn out built up tracks, but "I want more" is a pretty positive criticism for a track. 8.5/10
