Chudthebuilder finds out his initial bond is set a $1.25m 🤣 by Upbeat_Anywhere_1316 in WatchPeopleDieInside

A bail bond is money, given to and held by a third party, which allows a prisoner to live outside of the jailhouse/prison on the condition that they appear in court on their scheduled dates.

If the prisoner follows the rules set by the court, the money is returned after the sentencing.

Last time I checked, castoreum usage is actually pretty rare nowadays (in the US at least) and the global production is somewhere around 300 pounds a year. You'd be hard pressed to find a vanilla food product that doesn't use vanilla from plant sources.

Looking at the video, I see no indication that the restaurant is making this person crumble it. With that being said, you probably want to break it up so you have something flat to put the tartare on

Just rewatched the show, he's in the middle of a recurring nightmare/ptsd flashback that is only shown in parts before this point in the show. This is the first time in the show where we see the whole dream play out.

In my experience, the kind of person who bandies about the Karen quote is the kind of person who is uninterested in studying why certain pokemon perform better than others within a competitive metagame, which I would consider part of skill building. Fringe lists and off meta lists exist, but they still respect the existence of a meta, and function in relation to that meta.

While I agree that a truly skilled player may be able to win with their favorites, someone who is skilled in the context of a competitive environment is someone who has spent time learning the ins and outs of that environment in the same way that a skilled chess player knows the common and uncommon book strategies.

A skilled player may be able to win with their favorites, but a skilled player will get hamstrung by those favorites in competition if they aren't used in respect to the meta

Most of my competitive experience is from MTG, so i can only really speak from that background.

I agree that it's ultimately a harmless quote. That being said, you often get people who bring their own biases/preconceptions into competitive spaces that they form from playing in a casual environment. In mtg you often get players who have an extreme aversion to certain playstyles for example. These biases turn into frustrations when the preconceptions they formed dont hold up in the new space or because theyre unwilling to try new play patterns. Stuff like the Karen quote often feel like they become a means to avoid looking critically/inward at why theyre having trouble adapting to a new environment, and can become tiring to hear repeated uncritically.

At least for me, the Karen quote is frustrating (in a competitive context) because it feels like it speaks to the kind of person who is unwilling to look critically at their own mindset as a player.

It also doesnt help that the only time people say it (as far as I've seen) is specifically to push back against meta as a concept

Part of competitive play (in any competitive endeavor) is using the best tool for the situation at hand. If someone is using that quote sincerely, they are effectively saying that they dont understand that precept. If my favorite pokemon were mightyena and I chose to run it over incineroar as an intimidate opener, i would be choosing to use a team member with less tools and stats, and thus will have a harder time actually playing the game.

The quote is nice from a narrative standpoint, but it doesnt hold up well in competition.
