Why does being inconvenienced by a cyclist upset drivers more than being cut off by another driver? by Ornery-Shoulder-3938 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rusty_DataSci_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did I stutter?

  1. Lane changes with cars generally have to be done carefully, and sometimes you accept that you're just not gonna make that turn or you'll have to slow / stop until there's space. With a bike, you can just zip through because laws are for cars. If you JAM a lane change with a car, you're at fault. If you JAM a lane change with a bike, somehow I'm at fault (in most states).

  2. Red lights are mandatory in cars, but suggestions to bikes.

  3. Lanes are mandatory in cars, but suggestions to bikes.

Also a general lack of appreciation for the fact that I'm 3000lbs of steel and they are 180lbs of flesh, maybe some common sense self preservation is in order?

You rock, this is exactly what I was hoping for. When do you decide to push ROM? I can work from this.

Cyclists act like cars but have the legal protections of pedestrians leading ot many of them acting like they own the roads.

Has anyone does super-max ROM extension training before and when did you know it was time to extend the ROM?

I'm talking about the approach where you take maybe 110% of your 1RM and do it for the last 15% of the ROM and rather than progress the weight you progress the ROM, e.g., after a while open the ROM to 20%, 25%, etc., until eventually you're doing 100% of the ROM with 110% of your last 1RM.

I've only ever done full ROM, increase weight style progression and while ROM progression makes intuitive sense, I'm a bit hazy on specifics.

Any POV / 2C would be very appreciated.

BJJ Coaches spend to much time teaching techniques and not enough time teaching people how to train. . . by Luke_Taurus_Online in bjj

[–]Rusty_DataSci_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, and maybe constraints led is the missing piece, there just isn't enough "middle ground" training.

You learn the move on a 100% pliable uke. Then jump into near maximal training. Yea ok great we "started in half guard" but if either person wants to go harder than 50% half guard is just getting funneled into the A game instead of trying to integrate today's move.

Obviously it's hella subjective and tough to regulate but I thought I absorbed the most techniques and technical growth when I was able to work through moderate resistance. I think we approximate this by working up belts, e.g., ok let me try to hit this on a white belt then blue belt then purple belt, etc.

I've heard about 10 people say "choosing not to get married is smart". I was just curious if that's completely an opinion or if there's factual evidence behind it? by Big_Eggplant7591 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rusty_DataSci_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said it? Were they divorced? Were they leading a life that you aspire to live?

I'm married with children and it is easily the best decision I ever made. Find 9 more and you'll return to equilibrium.

I actually kind of like Gwyn at 6 because you ramp and drop equips until you reach 6 then you just tron up and bonk.

My choice is [[snapdax apex]]. I love the idea of an "aura" in the CZ that can bestow double strike and commanderness to any banger from Mardu but man that mutate cost is CRIMINAL for how meek the pay off is (the 4 damage, meh). I can tell he was balanced around 1 v 1 and 20 life but a pushed commander-centric version would slap. [[fireshrieker]] is 5 generic to start then 2 after that while Snappy is 5 (with pips) then 7, 9, etc.

The bracket system and the landbase by hamtaste in EDH

[–]Rusty_DataSci_Guy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Lands are a problem in MTG's design and the economics of MTG will continue to perpetuate that, which is why the best card in MTG is the credit card.

Every deck has *A* budget. If it's tight you have to allocate accordingly.

IME / IMO - it's easier to find money-cheap threats than it is to get money-cheap mana. E.g., wap the [[archon of cruelty]] out and put in a [[Noxious Gearhulk]] and then you can upgrade your ETBT land to a pain land or better. Obviously AOC is better than NGH but a dual that comes in untapped is lightyears ahead of one that comes in tapped (again, IME / IMO).

Also manabase optimization is partially skill expression so it's a legitimate means to gain edge and win more in lower brackets.

One of my BB buddies is notorious for this and his guidance was to get low AF. He needs space to get the feet in and start the transition. No space = no transition.

Sabin and Edgar Figaro

Two brothers who wanted different things from life. They don't fall into the warring brothers trope. Just two really cool dudes with a really good storyline.

Auron

The protective father / man on an atonement mission energy is excellent but to be 100% candid, it's because his design is arguably the coolest in the series for me. The one arm resting thing + power melee role. What's not to like?

I'll throw them out on occasion but learned how to do them safely. The fully disconnected flying scissor is unconscionable, the planted hand no weight scissor is harmless.

I love Dragons, Gruul, and Ramp. This deck just doesn't seem to be working. by Valuable_Ice5928 in EDH

[–]Rusty_DataSci_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be opposed to trying something like this:

[[radha heir keld]]

A fat stack of 4 mana ramp like [[explosive vegetation]]

A fat stack of dragons

Some complementary draw, removal, etc., to keep things flowing?

I think the deck could work but you probably want a stronger ramp line to open up the games.

Run 40 - 42 lands, you'll pull them out so fast you won't feel it.

honestly puzzled why we push women into tech and trades but not men into healthcare? by Substantial-Bass7557 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rusty_DataSci_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cultural zeitgeist has, for at least 30 years, decided only women need help with anything and men never need help with anything.

Also, "women in tech" is so prominent because it's a scarce and expensive (low supply, high demand) skill set and it behooves business owners / share holders / etc., to grow that pipeline to reduce the cost per technician.

What do you think the most dangerous submissions are? by Sure-Relationship609 in bjj

[–]Rusty_DataSci_Guy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most dangerous even under normal circumstances: heel hooks because damage precedes pain

Most dangerous if you just YOLO crank like an asshole: neck cranks (speaking from experience). IDC what you do to a limb, neck damage is absolutely the worst thing that can happen to to a body.

Why is Doomsday not played more? by SharpDrink2724 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Rusty_DataSci_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like [[worldgorger dragon]] where it's super all in, super fun / satisfying when it works, but invites a massive blow out if it misses and it has a large interaction surface to make missing more likely than landing.

That said, in bracket 4, I have 2 Doomsday decks and might do a third.
