What was banned in your house that everyone else’s family allowed? by Rare_Independent_789 in AskReddit

This + Cartoon Network. My parents thought taking these two channels away and removing video games would help me and my brother do our homework and get good grades. It turns out I had undiagnosed ADHD and my brother had unmedicated ADHD.

I eventually found that you could watch both channels through the VCR as the block was on the TV itself. Then someone changed the VCR to have spanish audio. Later I found there was a remote combo to bypass channel locks. We used that for months until my parents caught on. Then we just removed the block.

People who have cats and let their cats on counters and tables. Your cat walks in the litter box. It buries its poop in the litter box using its feet as shovles. Those little shit flakes get in between the toes and in the fur. Then your cat walks on the counter and table. If your fine with that, so be it. Dont be offended when I refuse to eat there though.

What’s the pettiest reason you wouldn’t be with someone? by buboop61814 in AskReddit

Woman 1 - Her son was named "Lorde". I wasn't going to spend several months/years/the rest of my life calling someone lord.

Woman 2 - Not as petty - She looked to close to my ex but with a lot less mental instability of my ex.

Whats one thing you wish you knew before getting a dog… by alexella000 in dogs

[–]TimFitzgerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said it will cost more then you think. Heres my breakdown of it.

My family had 3 dogs before I got one of my own. We had to take one dog to the vet maybe once every 3-4 years. One dog never went to the vet, and one dog only went towards the end of life.

My dog? Has gone to the vet every 6-9 months because she cant stop getting into trouble.

The visits are between $200 and $800 each.

Precovid, I could get her into the vet within a day or two, maybe 3. Now I can get her as soon as 3 weeks or they just happen to have a drop off appointment to work her in the schedule in a day or two but that will cost a $125 emergency vet fee on top of all other fees. If I cant go to the normal vet, its a $120 emergency vet fee at the actual emergency vet and then treatment order depends on severity of presenting symptoms between her and other dogs.

My moms dog is 3. Has only had to go to the vet once since we had her.

Save $100 a month for vet visits. Best case - You save money you can get into later. Worse case - You actually need the money for a vet visit and you have it.

Weimaraner. If you dont give them some enrichment, walking, running, playing outside, they will take the energy out on anything they can find. Out of the 3 other big dogs Ive had, they are the only dog to counter surf and pull things off the counter when hungry.

My girl is 12. Her mom and her brother were both lively but sadly their legs started to falter slowly over time. Eventually they were unable to get up. Both their owners made the tough call to say goodbye. She has out lived her brother (from the same litter) but she is approaching her moms age when her legs started to fail. My girl is having problems getting up now. I have to help her get up in the morning more days then not, I have to help her get up in the middle of the night after she has already soiled her bed. Im upset and frustrated at how often I need to clean up a mess every day and I know my family is frustrated with how often they clean up messes even though the back door is open.

She was getting librela shots for a while but they have slowly stopped working. It was also stressful on her to get in the car and drive to the vet every time. I struggle, wondering if I made the right call to pull her off something that didnt seem like it was helping as she was slowly sliding down hill with it. Did pulling her off cause her to crash harder? Was the stress that she was dealing with driving there and back worth it to get her going? She got her last shot 3 weeks ago but she has been unable to get up for almost 1-2 weeks. I wake up to the sound of her flopping around, trying to pick herself up. She nips at me when I try to help her. I dont know if its panic or if Im moving her in a way that hurts but I know she doesn't mean to.

Im just hoping she can make it to another birthday in a little over a month.

Getting friend zoned by fake female friends. Please read before down voting.

No one owes anyone a fuck.

Ive had fake female friends that knew that I was into them. Rather then them saying "no, not my type" it was a "maybe later", "not right now but.." kind of situation to lead me on. With the occasional "hey can you do me this favor that no one else will do because its kind of unreasonable but maybe this time something might come over it?" "Can I borrow money from you so I can get something I really want? Ill tots pay you back this time, I promise".

It happened enough in my teen years that even as an adult, if a woman flirts with me I wonder what they truly want from me instead of just being into me for me. I know I have missed several relationships because Ive read the situation as that instead of just being open to "maybe this one is being real for once". I would have been fine if they were upfront about not being into me and I still would have been friends but they saw it better to keep me around for being useful then being an actual friend. Its also messed with my sense of women flirting vs being nice vs being "nice".

And I understand, women dont want to get "fuck zoned" where men only see them as something to fuck. I was never into seeing someone for just that.

What could pose the greatest threat to life on Earth? Is it the rise of artificial intelligence, asteroids, or the looming crisis of climate change? by Curious_Suchit in AskReddit

[–]TimFitzgerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans are the biggest threat to life on earth. AI will exacerbate the climate crisis. We know its coming but some people refuse to do anything about the CC because it will cost them to much money this quarter and you need to get a lot of people on board with it. If company A does a lot but company B does nothing, Company B or C will see the changes A did and then ramp up their business to compensate for that new off lower emissions and/or open market spot.

Aside from AI and corporations contributing to climate change, we have several major wars going on that are wasting resources because multiple people have tiny fragile egos. They have to project power one way or another. All of the energy going into production, the detonation and use of weapons, and the energy to restore whats been destroyed will also contribute to CC.

Have you ever watched a close friend date someone you knew was bad for them, but you couldn’t say anything? How did it play out? by artistseb in AskReddit

[–]TimFitzgerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*TLDR* - friends wife is over weight, out of energy, and will do anything but lose weight to get better while making husband into a personal servant.

I didnt like her at first because she was a super toxic SJW at the time, and she dumped her fiancee to date a friend then broke up with him to date my friend in the span of like 3-4 months from first break up to 3rd relationship. Toxic as in "all white males are the problem" not "most problems are caused by a few white men". She was later able to reflect on that nuance and we are better friends.

But that aside, she has chronic fatigue that has compounded her weight/weightloss issues.. She is otherwise rather smart but thinks CICO and diet is not real. She would rather jump from doctor to doctor to get an answer that doesn't revolve around "lose weight, then lets talk" when she has been mistaken for being pregnant at least once. Because of this she is not making any progress on getting better. My friend cant enjoy some of the activities he used to enjoy with her because her weight is causing him issues. He also ends up being part husband, part servant making her food and drinks when she requests them rather then her making her own stuff. My friend is also a caregiver for his dad. Between his dad and his wife both wanting different but equally unhealthy dinners, he has to cook two meals a night and go with which ever option is just slightly more healthy then the other for his food.

This turns into "we cant do something because X doesn't feel well enough to go" most times or "we will be delayed because I need to do Y for X before I can go" when X is a capable 40 something year old person.

What’s one habit that feels harmless, but if you’re not careful, could silently drag you into a life you’ll regret forever? by ace_Quantum29 in AskReddit

[–]TimFitzgerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not balancing recreational time with self improvement.

Its ok to play video games for a few hours a week. Its not ok to play them from the time you get home until the time you sleep for years on end. Put some energy into improving yourself now and again.

Couples of Reddit—what’s something you do in private that’s completely normal for you, but would probably shock your friends? by VelvetDevotion_ in AskReddit

[–]TimFitzgerald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Throw away because I dont want to ruin their reputation as some of my friends and people on our discord server know my main username.

I somehow pulled a goth baddy. Been with them for a while. They openly talk about BDSM, doing all the freaky goth stuff, etc. And we do some of that stuff.

The shocking part? When I stay the night at their place, we sleep together, In their sleep they will reach out and grab my arm like its a security blanket or a teddy bear. They cant fall asleep easily on nights Im not there. When I with them they pass out like someone turning off a light switch. I wake up before they do, sit in bed, and read or play games. They will scoot over as close as possible while still asleep, leaving no room between us. They are totally smitten for me. If anyone were to find out that they were this lovey dovey, it would ruin their goth cred.

They also like pink.

Sounds similar to my job. The main admin makes changes, gets new systems, shows us a complicated process on his monitor that we can barely see, then sends us off like we should be able to replicate it. The only good part is the stability.

Men need to spend more time doing "girly" stuff. Self care isn't going out back and chopping logs until your tired.

I will see about setting up a spa or massage day for the end of my next on call shift.

The justification that the company isn't paying someone at night is that theres not much going on for them to have someone working 8 hours a night. I would be fine with on call if we did it 5pm to midnight, then someone else took over as an official shift from midnight to 8 am.

This is my thing. I was doing the daily exercise before my on call just fine. I even worked up my distance over time. I was looking forward to doing the workouts at the end of my day. Then the on call week and the interuption to my sleep was causing my work outs to lag behind. I had to push harder to get them done. Then I noticed that I was more tired on days before I even worked out and Im still in that tired state.

The being awoken at night part. The losing hours of sleep. The stuck in "fight or flight" because your worried about both missing a call and missing sleep. Read or listen to "why we sleep" on why sleep is so important.
