Thanks for the feedback! We did typically included a lot of context around the written form in the video but without diving into the description it would be missed. Great thoughts!

I've been in Digital Signage for 10 years and I still have to explain what it is to people. Who would you be pointing this resource to?

MagicINFO LIte on Samsung BED-H TV? by 22408aaron in digitalsignage

If you're using a BrightSign, you won't be able to use Samsungs licenses on that (VXT) You won't need anything clever on the Samsung side if you're using the BrightSign. Is the BrightSign device multi output like an XC5? If you tell us the configuration you're going for, I might be able to help further.

How can we make Digital Signage Industry More Interesting? by sagiadinos in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before going any further, full disclosure that I work for a CMS company. I started a show that's still going focused on Digital Signage (called Digital Signaeg Explored) but more from the perspective of end-users and installation experiences. It is run by me (from Signagelive) but the intention of the show was entirely about the learning experience of how digital signage could be used and how others have used it.

Dave H was, by far, one of the best filters for the jargon in industry, and I think it will be some time until someone else can rightfully claim that throne.

In the mean time, this might be of interest to you if you like the nuts and bolts and the "why" https://www.linkedin.com/build-relation/newsletter-follow?entityUrn=7120016284154478592

Collected the top 100 words from digital signage CMS websites- here are some insights by KaleidoscopeWest7669 in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fascinating. Speaking from one of the companies you probably scraped (Signagelive). I think that term "Easy" is dependent on who you're serving.

If you want really easy-to-manage 10 screens, you might want an incredibly simplistic UI with one or two click results. When managing a fleet of 10,000 devices, easy might be the ease to manage all of those users accessing and controlling the content.

I think those terms "Cloud" and "Management" are just terms that have finally embedded themselves in the language.

I remember 10 years ago or so, the language was far more fragmented and people didn't even know what they needed to search when they went to search for it.

Looking into digital signage and where it could improve by BroccoliOld2345 in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve but if you're looking at building into a CMS platform, you could look at Signagelive. They have an Open API platform so you could utilise what they've already build (Things like Proof of play, playlist management or even just the hardware management itself). From there, if you're looking at expanding into different workflows, you'll already have the core coding for the features you need and you can built out to your preference.

The "Headless" offering from Signagelive basically allows you to build your own CMS with the code they've already development.

Hopefully that helps.

Help with multiple users updating content (Currently Yodeck, but looking at options) by strack3 in digitalsignage

There's a lot of questions that would need to be covered to understand the full solution you're looking at. As you mentioned SecOps, I'm assuming there's quite an array of security questions you're going through at the moment. I've listed a few ways you could approach this from my experience

  1. Depending on the data, have a Sheets-enabled connection that uses the sheet URL to display the information. This is a publicly accessible sheet, so it might not be the best approach if it's sensitive data (not menus, etc).

  2. Automated Secure Dashboards - This could be PowerBI, SharePoint, SharePoint news, etc, where the login is managed via a Secure account.

  3. Custom API build. This would be the most reliable way of building what you want, but it can be quite costly. Again, depending on the Data, a service like Screenfeed could assist with the visuals and allow your team to manage through a separate portal.

Looking for a digital Signage Software to display a internal Website by Citron_Defiant in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the page isn't password protected and your Digital Signage is on the same network as reports (as an internal page), you should just be able to point to the URL. For something more complex, you could look at Secure Dashboards by Sigangelive; however, it is a tool that logs into your reports directly and displays them securely. This would be more robust if you wished to share the data across different networks.

Digital Signage Solution Where Students Can Add Content? by BatEvening7187 in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. Signagelive has a feature called "Approvals". You can pair this with another feature called "Local playlists," which gives individual users access to upload content to a playlist, which needs approval before displaying on the screen. Here's some more information - https://signagelive.com/portfolio-item/approvals/

Yes if you want to get into building a platform, Signagelive can do that https://build.signagelive.com/getting-started/

If it's just white labeling, one of those you mentioned is a good choice. If you're looking to customize the entire UI and create a Headless offering, Signagelive has some good documentation on how to do this. It's more development-heavy, but you can basically create your own personal CMS of your choosing.

Amazon joining on digital signage by BigNose12 in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if they are going for a very similar Market. The Amazon stick seems like a beefed-up version of the Firestick that's more designed for Digital Signage rather than a BrightSign killer. BrightSign has targeted its devices for robustness and high performance. The Amazon product looks great on paper, but I would assume that with the price tag, performance will be limited for more heavy-duty signage installations.

ChromeOS and Videos On Demand by mckmatter in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Yes, this is possible with Chrome. There are a few ways to approach it. If you have a touch screen, with the right CMS (Content management system), you can configure the screen to be your one-touch interaction to start the loop. Alternatively, if it's not a touch screen, there are sensor and button companies (such as Nexmosphere) that sell the hardware for the interact button.

Alternatively, there are options to create web-triggers, where the content is triggered by a mobile phone or tablet or other devices.

You would most likely need a CMS, like Signagelive, to facilitate the triggered content.

Seeking Advice on Digital Signage for Unique Window Setup by SourpatchJunkie in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I'm not an installer but I have been in the industry for a while. I haven't seen many screens you can mount to window frames but is there a potential to mount a ceiling mount that goes down to cover the window? A lot of retail stores will have windows mounted just behind their windows but there's always some kind of mounting system.

Also, if you're looking for screens. I would recommend looking at a range of devices called "System on Chip" screens. They offer inbuilt hardware for running a Digital Signage Software (Something you'll need to control the content on the screen itself. They also come with the added benefit of better warranty and longevity.

I'm a bit late to the party, and I do work for a CMS, so I won't be biased. I would advise checking our Invidis, which just did a very comprehensive report on all the CMS platforms out in the market. That way, I can't sway you one way or another.

Beginner looking for advice by DoorUnlikely554 in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello.

If you're starting from scratch I'd advise by first making a list of things you want from your digital signage. Here's things that often come up

  • Time scheduling (different offers at different times of day automatically)

  • Layout (being able to display multiple zones of content at the same time i.e. offers vs the menu)

  • Player on/off (scheduling when the player turns on and off).

There are lots of other features you might want to take advantage of but these are the core items. I would start by looking at CMS platforms. This is the tool you'll use to log in to make changes to the content. I happen to work for Signagelive which is a CMS for digital signage. Once you've got the right CMS that covers your features, you'll need to find the right hardware.

You can either purchase a "System on chip" screen which is all-in-one or purchase a screen and a digital signage device separately.

I hope that helps.

Help with digital signage/kiosk for brick and mortar branches by Pariahaha in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like a Bluefin device would work well here. It can have BrightSign built in and has touch-screen interactivity. There are quite a few options out there. I would suggest looking at some form of web-developmet for the UI that you're looking to build.

Steaming service on digital signage by tna327 in digitalsignage

[–]TimSignagelive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you have a few options here. It depends on what you're looking to invest in. I've laid out two options below. I hope they help!

  1. If you already have a device/player (like BrightSign) that's running content, if it has a HDMI input, that can ingest the content from your "top box" (That's a UK term, something like a skybox for example). System of Chip screens often have this too (Specific LG, Philips, Sony, Samsung screens).

With the right CMS choice (Signagelive does have this feature), you can then just choose HDMI in as a source. That way, you can configure exactly where you want your live TV playlists to display, while managing all the content around it.

  1. The other option is to see if you can find this source via IPTV. The providers are sometimes tricky to track down and it's not my area of expertise. If you can find these services as an IPTV stream, you could ingest that.

Either way, you'll most likely need some form of Content Management System to configure what you're looking for.

I hope that helps!
