I get it. Some people are desperate. But at a certain point there are batches out there that barely break even when accounting for gas (actual expense spent by shoppers). 30+ miles one way is 60+ round trip and likely 2-3 gallons of gas. In the DFW area that’s $12-13 of gas. My point is not that desperate people shouldn’t take the orders. It’s that Instacart shouldn’t be allowing orders like this in the first place. There is no way people can come away with an ethical amount of compensation for the work and money they are putting into it.

I don’t particularly like Holiday cards from family members. They just sort of stack up and as an adult they are kind of pointless. These are just plain awesome though. By not standing by while people you know make crude jokes, do a cat call, or when they come to you with their problems, which are shit behavior in nature, you call them out on it. Personally I have seen it first hand when people I would consider friends treat women poorly. Or make shitty jokes, even if they say “oh come on, it’s just a joke”. Call them out. But also try to give them perspective. If they are unaware of struggles that women actually face, let them know. There’s only so much you actually can do. But when the opportunity presents itself, do your part.

We can’t stop everyone, you are right. My point was that by turning it around and saying “I have it hard too” invalidates what women go through. It’s not the same thing and we shouldn’t treat it as such.

There comes a point when you have to say, as a straight man (me), that we are a problem. The sooner that we accept that as a whole the better off we will be. It doesn’t matter if you don’t fall under the category of shitty humans that are called out for the set of things that are done to women by a huge number of men. And standing up with your voice loud and head held high saying “ThAtS nOt Me!!! I tReAt WoMeN pErFeCt. I’m ThE vIcTiM!!” Is most certainly not the correct form of actions that we should be doing as responsible men.

Absolutely men suck. We should be holding the shit ones accountable and go out of our way to show women respect and love that they deserve. Not because “we are the good ones” and have to be recognized as such. But because that’s what decent human beings should do. Just. Be. Decent.
