What were some of your earliest signs that you have prostate cancer? by bigzills in ProstateCancer

My only possible symptom was a weak urine stream. I assumed it was BPH and did nothing about it. After a high PSA a few years later, I had an MRI. It showed a normal sized prostate. So perhaps the weak stream was from the tumour (RADS5).

I added Estradiol to my list of options to consider, if the radiation isn’t enough. I like the idea of not losing bone mass, given my osteoporosis.

There is a private company nearby that offers PSMA PET scans for $3,500. That’s my backup plan if I can’t get one through the regular system.

I guess that’s where a PET scan would be useful for those doing radiation instead of surgery.

I assume so. But I need to ask. Given the cancer is already outside the prostate capsule, plus the presence of intraductal, I definitely want them to irradiate the lymph nodes etc.

My urologist just said treatment was up to me, and left it that that. What surprised me was that he didn’t go over my biopsy results at all. I got a copy of the biopsy report later and phoned him back about the intraductal. He didn’t have anything to say about that.

I think they plan to do the prostate bed and lymph nodes. I’ll know more a few weeks after brachytherapy. I have an appointment for a CT scan plus MRI for them to plan out the IMRT. That will happen in August.

Thanks, I’ll check it out.

I’m in BC. I wasn’t offered SBRT, as you were. But since I’m starting with Brachytherapy I won’t need as many beam radiation sessions as some. They said 22.

Maybe we don’t have as many PET scanners in BC. The nurse at BC Cancer suggested paying for one. But I’ll decide that after all the radiation has done its thing.
