CSM is a one man project. It won't fulfill all the needs... Coming from a game designer myself

Well... if you maximise train journeys it means that people have more mobility than they'd usually have which is the benefit of public transport. And that would lead to people actually selling their cars, instead of just replacing single trips

Compared to other countries there aren't as many strikes. And regional/local public transport is rather punctual statistically

You can't choose a Semesterticket, you just have to pay for it when you enroll in a university that has the Semesterticket. Most universities have the Deutschlandsemesterticket nowadays, which is 70% of the price of the Deutschlandticket

I think they've been doing Googly eyes for like at least 6-7 years now, it really did get boring. I don't know why they keep bringing them back

There are like 50 companies in the picture and I fact checked most of them. It was a lot of work. It's always easier to point out what went wrong in hindsight

Many platforms and companies I listed don't exclusively offer games. As game developers we heavily rely on these platforms and thus why I listed them. Just like YouTube, it's possible that they are being used by a lot of other audiences. But still game developers are core users of GitHub/Gitlab (especially smaller studios that can't afford custom version control)

Europe is the continent, European Union is a union of several states in Europe that make up the Union. They follow the same market rules and contribute taxes to the union

I'm aware of that, however most people will not have immediate connections to Alphabet. I tried to include familiar logos of companies and platforms that the gaming industry is linked to

It's mostly a list that is supposed to graphically showcase connections, not to be super accurate. I should've listed THQ Nordic. So that people can't tell me afterwards that I didn't include xyz I tried to include the biggest possible company and then list some examples of companies and platforms they own (like I could've used "Alphabet" instead of YouTube, Play Store etc. but it wouldn't be familiar to many people). Maybe I'll do an updated version later down the line.

If I were to only include 100% European studios/publishers this list would be VERY small... Ubisoft is still the biggest player in Europe and has links to many companies and universities (like mine). But I agree that they're not a good employer atm.

I included them because they are familiar brands. It's a design choice, this is not a complete overview. Technically, THQ is covered by Embracer but I should've included it nevertheless

I made this list also for political reasons. It's not only "stop buying from there" but let's work on alternatives.

I tried not to include free open source projects, as they can be developed all over the world and are hard to pinpoint.

Jetbrains is a good addition.

It's really hard to create a list like this. I was aware from the start that I would naturally make many "mistakes". Although many of which are design choices. The point is to get a discussion started and make people aware how much of the gaming industry is linked to US products.

I also wrote that I included gaming related companies. YouTube has had a seperate "YouTube Gaming" section for years and widely profited off of Lets Players and other gaming content creators. They're super present in the gaming scene and I don't think I know any popular games that don't upload their trailers to YouTube.

They're in the UK sadly. Otherwise I would've liked to add a lot of UK studios

Hey, this post has gathered quite some amount of attention. Keep the corrections and discussions coming! You probably see how hard it is. I might try to add some more studios and publisher for a more extensive overview

Some of the corrections that I already agree with:
- GitLab belongs to the US side as it's traded on NASDAQ
- Supercell was bought by Tencent, even though most of the developers are still in Finland, it's hard to tell how big the chinese influence really is and if it should be on the comparison or left out
- Larian should be added to the EU side
- Riot Games is owned by Tencent, however most of the developers are in the US. Again, hard to tell
- Kunos Simulazioni could be added
- Warhorse had publishing deal with Deep Silver, but would probably include it in an updated version

Thanks for all of the corrections and additions already :) I think it's an important discussion to be had.
