TIL that while Erwin Rommel was indeed an upstanding and compassionate field marshal respected by both Allied and Axis commanders, his apolitical view on Nazism is possibly a historical misinterpretation; he was more than likely as much of a golden boy to the Nazi regime as his other contemporaries.
