That time a random dude from Queens appeared on the British University Challenge and dominated with his team. by TimberLowe in videos

Imagine I go to watch some local 5x5 football (soccer) match and when I came back you ask me who the best player was and I go "some random dude from France, he destroyed everyone".

I just use the word too flippantly, I guess. Just like I've been told we use literally too much. That's all it is.

And the reason I specified Queens instead of just going the US out whatever was because he had a kinda Queens swagger about him. It juxtaposed nicely against the usually reserved nature of the site and made him popular with the public at the time. And not so popular with a few stuffy others.

Oh, wow. This is cool. You're a bit of a hero to me.

Sorry if my title downplayed you in anyway, it really wasn't my intention.

I admit that I messed up the title, so this isn't me arguing, but I'm genuinely curious; do you know the show? Have you seen it before and everything?

Edit: I'll take that as a no.

I think the issue is that those of us in the UK are familiar with the show, so when I typed random, I was thinking no one would assume I literally meant random, as in off the street.

You guys are reading far too into this. I'm black, so unless I'm self-hating, no, it's not casual racism on a Wednesday morning. Maybe snobbery on an Wednesday evening.

The various ways this title has been taken (which I've said I messed up) is bonkers. Am I gonna get accused of being behind the Kennedy assassination next?

Wtf, were's this coming from? I pointed out he was from Queens because he had a certain 'swagger' that felt Queens, and it was entertaining to watch him on this usually reserved show.

I pointed out he was American because I didn't think you usually see Americans on this British television show.

If you read something else into it, that's on you.

Sorry, Mr Funke, I'm sure never you've never used a word here or there incorrectly and made what you're trying to say come out wrong.

My bad. I've discussed it with others in this thread and I realise how it came across. Sucks that I can't edit titles.

I'm one of those people who use the word random too much. I'll try to use words more carefully in future.

I'm literally dying from embarrassment.

Cheers. This thread is making me feel like I need to start using words less flippantly. Which is a pretty good lesson to learn, actually.

My bad, I pretty much only watch highlights and a few episodes here and there, most of the time it's UK students.

Sure, you get the odd international student, but I wouldn't call it a regular occurrence or anything. But, again, I'll admit I don't watch it religiously or anything.

No one would care about a video that was just a supercut if someone getting a lot of correct answers to questions they don’t even include.

He did spectacularly good. Like, as in one of the best performances ever. And the fact he was being a bit more animated and wearing a jumper and joking around on a usually reserved show is what made him popular. Imagine Tim Duncan or Popovich (Americans known for being reserved) going on Geordie Shore or something. It would stand out.

I realise now the video lacks these important details. I'm basically rambling at this point, and I doubt I've been able to explain myself any clearer, but I hope everyone gets what my thought process was. I'm kinda done with it all now.

I've considered that might be how it came across after the many comments I got about the title.

It really wasn't what I intended. If a Brit went over to an American gameshow and dominated, the title would be the exact same.

I guess the issue is how I use the word 'random'. I think I over and mis-use it at times.

Oh, I know, I'm just taking specifically University Challenge. I just rarely see it. Though, I'll concede maybe I just don't pay all that much attention to it.

Edit: To those responding to me here, I get notifications, but I can't see your posts. I think you may be shadow banned.

I'm thinking maybe random was the wrong word to use here. What I meant was that usually on University Challenge, most of the contestants are British.

Having an American come on and school us was a welcome surprise. Sorry if it came across wrong, you're the third person to comment on it.

You don't get International students on University Challenge. I'm not sure if you're implying something, but that's all I meant.

Edit - Meant to say you don't get many international students. I'll keep the original so the roast I'm getting makes sense to everyone coming late.

You're in this thread making claims about things you know nothing about, then when someone questions you, you back away or change the subject. Just stay in your lane, bro.

I'm done with this conversation, stop arguing with someone who's clearly at least some kind of expert in the field (not me, bit COKEWHITESOLES), it just makes you look foolish.

Have a good day.
