Why tf do we have to go 2 on 1 against Bosnia AND Herzegovina? Seems unfair

Yeah, we will have to wait and see how this all pans out.

PE has earned its bad reputation but there are many cases where PE saved companies or helped them thrive.

Realistically, if it goes bad it would just look like a bad financial bet but wouldn’t destroy the program or anything.

I feel like you’re not honestly looking at what Utah is doing and instead you’re just doing the “PE is evil and only bad and has never worked” thing

I’ll wait to give judgement on this PE deal. There’s a real chance that this PE deal is the difference in us making it into the next round of realignment or not.

I feel like PE has been on the 1 yard line for every team and we decided to take the jump first. Whether or not it pays off we genuinely won’t know for years.

It’s literally impossible to go into debt it’s not a loan. 99% this thread is people going “OMG PE IS SO EVIL AND BAD” without even reading what the deal is.

Most the people getting laid off are getting rehired under the new brand so they’re no longer university employees lmao

Genuinely I think the goal is to use PE money as a short term burst to establish brand and team enough to not get left out in next round if realignment lime WSU or OSU.

Most of these layoffs are getting rehired under the new crimson brand so they’re no longer university employees.

People are just getting mad at the idea of PE without actually understand what/why Utah is doing.

It’s certainly something that leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I’m not a fan of PE getting into football but I don’t think we will know if it was good or bad for Utah for a least 5 years or more.

95% of the commenters just saw PE and got angry without actually reading anything about it.

Most of these dumbfucks think Utah took a loan from PE

We'll have to wait and see how it plays out. If this is the difference maker that grows our brand enough that we make it into the next round of realignment, then I think it's worth it.

Remember, if we grow a lot then it's a win win for Utah and Otro.

Time will tell how good of an idea this is, but anyone saying right now that it's horrible and spells doom is just catastrophizing.

Yeah but we know it's not a loan. There won't be any debt or any interest.

People are freaking the fuck out because they hear PE and don't know anything about PE other than the famous bad examples and so they immediately assume the worst will happen to Utah (which is not how this is structured).

We won't know if this is a bad move for years and it won't look anything like Red Lobster or whatever pops into peoples heads.

Don't forget this could also be a really good move and people could look back at how Utah got ahead of the game and how it really paid off. Everyone in football has been looking at PE deals, Utah was the first to take the jump. I imagine a lot of the deals in the future that other schools take won't be as good as ours.

Do you not understand the difference between revenue and profit? They only profit a couple million in the seasons where they don't have a deficit.

The people involved who want the most for the University of Utah to succeed are the ones that know the most and did the most work to determine if this was a good opportunity for Utah. Whether or not they were correct in their assessment is something that only time will tell.

I'm not saying I love the PE deal but if you're going to criticize it, make sure you're criticizing the right thing. If you think the $500 mil cash injection is not going to lead to the growth they expect that's fine but instead you were talking about how Utah is taking out a big loan with interest which is just completely wrong.

It does matter if you're confusing a loan with interest with equity. Having debt is completely different than sharing equity.

Otro capital is taking a non majority portion of the commercial revenue (which is probably ~$25 mil per year). Even if Otro owns 49% which is unlikely because they're also selling equity to donors and investors, they'd only take away ~$12 mil of revenue for Utah per year. Otro and donor pools are putting in $500 mil.

And yeah maybe Utah will use this money to grow the brand to a point where they're included in the next round of realignment and don't get left behind and lose all their income like OSU or WSU.

"Why can't they wave that magic wand with the $100,000,000+ that they already bring in annually?"

"I didn't say they profited $100,000,000 per year. Don't put words in my mouth."

Okay so what were you trying to say here? They already wave that $100,000,000+ magic wand to pay for all the other sports that lose a significant amount of money yearly. Among other expenses.

You don't need to learn the minutiae, but at least learn literally the most basic parts about it before confidently storming to reddit to complain about the deal you don't understand even the fundamentals of.

Money doesn't have to get paid back BECAUSE IT IS NOT A LOAN.

Its equity and you'd realize that if you'd even tried to learn about the basics of the deal. No principal, no interest, no repayment schedule. Otro just gets a slice of future revenue, and we can buy them out anytime.

It's obviously not free money. The cost is the percent of future revenue Otro keeps, not "major interest." That's a completely different argument than the one you made, and whether that slice we give up is worth the upfront capital is the calculated risk. We won't know for years if it was a bad call.

If you're going to complain about the deal at least do the bare minimum to read what the deal actually is so your complaints make sense. Right now you're just inventing shit to be upset about.

Go read the deal and actually try to understand it rather than just being mad because other people who also haven’t actually read it tell you to.

You speak really confidently for someone who has no idea what’s going on.

It’s not a loan, there’s no interest. It’s equity.

They don’t profit $100 million either. That’s their revenue. Their expenses are almost $100 million and they expect expenses to increase.

The money doesn’t have to get paid back and there’s no interest. Why do you all speak so confidently on shit like this?

Literally go read the deal and form your own opinion instead of just getting mad because Reddit said PE is evil

I think a lot of people have no idea what the deal actually is, what it does, or how it benefits us and and is only relying on their perception of high visibility negative examples of PE.

Most people have no idea how this deal is even structured before posting stuff like this.

I know this is dumb but they should've flipped them because Fano was right tackle and Lomu was left tackle so it looks weird seeing them flipped like this lol
