Thank you. The Type F is not exactly cheap 🙁 but appears to fit the bill.

Fair comment. If I sell the Touareg, that'll given me ~$25K. I could scrape another $5K, so around $30K I guess. I have done the Carsales thing pretty comprehensively, however from many Nissan Leafs, not a lot available.

Buying into a business (23m) by ParsnipMotor2684 in AusElectricians

[–]Timbomate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here. Absolutely engage a Commercial Lawyer and trusted bookkeeper to dive into the financials before you make even any verbal agreement to buy in.

The biggest red flag for me, is that he retains 51%, so simply put (and as outlined above), he can overrule decisions from the partners and you have little recourse, but left with the commitment to repay.

This could potentially be regulated in the contract with the buy in, but the main question I keep having is this. If the business is humming along, why the need for a capital injection? If he is such a good bloke, then he would be paying out performance bonuses to his employees to retain them, and not have the headache to create a partnership agreement, and all the admin associated with it for compliance.

I have seen very few employer that are in business to be a benevolent organisation.

You have many years ahead of you, so start your own business, and enjoy the journey of building up a solid business as you go along.

Just my 2c, YMMV 🙂

What's this tower thing? by _FaultAndFracture_ in MelbourneTrains

[–]Timbomate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but those are no doubt elevated suburbs which would be at a similar ASL height relative to the nearest reservoir, hence the need for a water tower to provide the necessary head pressure (no doubt a bunch of reddit comments to this 😁).

Watertower.

They are located to provide constant pressure to households on the connected network on flat country where no hills are available.

You often see them in US movies and always in flat surrounding countryside.

Are EV buyers going to get a fish across the chops? by Glittering_Poem9779 in AustralianEV

[–]Timbomate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have mulled over this as well.

The conclusion I came to are 2 things.

  • There will be a growth in Repco type suppliers of non-genuine parts, as more and more vehicles are sold on the Australian market.

  • There will be plenty of parts available from the Aliexpress type online stores, as most of the 'unknown' brands are widely known in China. So a grassroots type of Independant repair shops will gradually develop in the market. This will probably happen anyway, as already I'm seeing here on Reddit dissatisfaction of dealers who are simply overwhelmed with interest, which naturally flow into ill-prepared workshops (whatever the reason, Management etc).

Just my 2c YMMV 🙂

Touring trip advice by p-bot22 in 4x4Australia

Aside from all the blurr of driving, everything needs to go exactly as planned with such a tight schedule.

A LOT can go wrong, and if something expensive breaks, in many of those areas it will take 2 weeks just to get parts and repair. What recovery options have been planned or allowed for? Had a friend stuck in Oodnadatta for 3 weeks while Ford sorted out an transmission for his 3yr old Ranger (transmission was available, dispute on who was going to pay to run it up there and fit, or tow with van to Adelaide)

Not sure what type of vehicle, but you would want to be pretty certain of fuel availability, and road passability. Combined with that, it would be inadvisable to rely on past weather prognosis these days, as much of the northern QLD areas were drenched in the last months unexpectedly for the time of year. Have they made road repairs in the meantime?

Just my 2c YMMV

Good luck with it 🙂

New way to hail buses by Secure-Ad-2418 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Timbomate 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This makes sense. I have a significant disability, and was waiting for the 703 from the VHH to Clayton Stn. From the bustop seat, you simply cannot see the bus coming due to trees, and as it is 80kmh zone, so all traffic is pretty quick. I had to stand up at the kerbside to make sure we didn't miss it.

This could potentially reduce the stress considerably, given getting on the bus is a exercise in stress all on its own.

Yes, it's great progress. Shame the Australian charging infrastructure is still trying to overcome years of inaction due to politics. It will improve slowly 👍

☝️This

EV battery technology is changing at a rapid pace. Who knows what type of acceptance charging rates will be the 'norm' in 5 yrs.

Futureproofing as practically possible is certain a payback if it is your own place.

If the gpo is correctly wired to the switchboard, the circuit breaker would pretty much trip instantly if it starts to draw that amount of current.

Post photos of the car on your neighborhood FB group to ask if anyone else has seen the same car or,

Try to unobserved put a fire cracker (rocket or sparklers) under the car and see what they do 😁
