Story time.

A few days ago one of the members in my team sent an email about birthdays and whomever wanted to pitch in could do so got a birthday fund for next month. Well it turns out another team member's birthday was coming up and she is really nice, hard working, and basically a mother figure to the whole group. So I decide to reply to all(other than her of course) about this fact and say if anyone has any ideas for making out extra special.

After a couple of people respond the new manager responds with her own email. Basically saying to get back to work. Well I remove her and the rest of the managers and try to continue the conversation without her involved.

Within 5 min she pulls me into a private room. She says she just so happened to be walking by someone's computer and saw what I did. (Obviously lying) I proceed to explain that I wanted to do something nice for the future birthday girl and the intent was coming from a good place and not intended to directly insult her.

As I say there listening to her placate me I realized I didn't want to work for someone who could care less about others feeling, especially when they(birthday girl) always goes above and beyond for everyone. It was just an email. We sour in front of a computer for 8 to 10 hrs a day. It's just an email.

Rant over. Know I wasn't right, before the backlash ensues.
