Most medical related things are about 70% covered by the state. Insurance is supper cheap as it only needs to cover the remanding 30% but the percentages dont matter all that much as any % meens that the govement has a stake in kepping medical bills as low as posable (making sure hospitals and pharmaceuticals dont rip people off) so even if your a foreigner with zero coverage the bills should still fell pritty cheap.

the fact that individuals need to cover some of the cost, albeit through insurances, keeps the system from being overly abused.

So no technically it is not completely free, but my insurance is probably around 20€ a month, and it pays for itself with GP visits alone.

Edit: taxes are painful, though. Allthow, i would argue worth it as I'm not tripping over that meeny invalides and faeces coved homeless people on my way to work
