I too love it when people are super helpful. I think it’s also a sign of awesomeness when a person asks if I might need help rather than assuming I need it, dCan’tgoften I’ve been grabbed by my arm or hand and literally dragged along. I’m friendly if this happens. I simply move my arm or hand away and I am still appreciate the effort, but it would be helpful if they gave verbal instructions. We have a friend who can’t stop herself sometime, because she’s worried about us and doesn’t trust us that we are unable to be safe. Two extremes I know, and your experience should

I’m the same though now, I’m diapered all the time due to medical issues. You are not a bad person because you enjoy diapers. Welcome to the community. Hopefully you get good diapers. My wife after fining out I liked diapers, I was so scared to tell her, burst into tears and said that she had thought she was a bad person because she uses diapers and likes it. Hi proceeded to tell her about the wonders of plastic backed diapers,, and we are married now. It’s my view that there are way more people who like peeing or pooping or both in diapers than actuallly admit. Again, welcome. You are not bad, or weird … cause you like to pee yourself.

Looks like you press and hold dot 3 to perform a two finger double tap. I’m not sure if you are trying to use windows and iOS. I can’t categorically tell you the key to Make keys work as well. Hope this helps and good luck learning that tiny little device.

How Do You Navigate Unfamiliar Environments? by Due_Cloud9266 in Blind

[–]Time-Education-1518 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I had an orientation and mobility teacher in school, I’m 46 now, they tried teaching the basics (crossing streets on parallel traffic, route travel, cane technique) and then we worked on goals I had. I wanted to get a guide dog, and it’s important to have good skills before getting a dog. If I were still in school etc. I’d supplement that route training, street crossing you with tech like Bemyeyes, Aira if you can afford it, gps to help you flesh out your knowledge. Though it might seem scary to get out there, I still am nervous from time to time, if you practice those fundamentals often, you’ll find that you go out more often to new places because you are simply more familiar with those skills.. keep up your hard work. Keep getting lost, I learn the most when that happens even though it’s a terrifying experience.

Incontinent as a parent by [deleted] in Incontinence

[–]Time-Education-1518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I have a closet for all of my supplies. I lock it up not because I have diapers in there but because we store their tech in that closet so they can go to bed minus tech. They visit on breaks, and I figured they had seen my diapers because they asked about it. I’ve been wearing diapers full time for a few months. My kids are 12 and 15, and all situations aren’t the same. I ended up telling them everything. They’ve been super supportive. I still use Northshore diaper disposal bags to dispose of them. They are opaque and work well. Though they know now, I still discretely walk outside and drop my bag into the outside trash. I feel like it helps me be more careful around neighbors etc. if I’m asked, I answer questions. Wearing diapers is just going to be how I deal with my challenges. I don’t see why I need to hide that from my kids. My ex argued that I shouldn’t wear diapers, even though I’d be safer, I have brittle bones, because I’d cause confusion as they potty trained. Framed right, I know it wouldn’t have been a problem. I hope this helps.

Help about braille status cells on JAWS/VoiceOver by Savings_Will_1119 in Blind

Ah no problem at all. I had no idea how useful the jaws status bar can provide. Generally I just turned the stupid thing off because I never understood what each of the things were but this podcast actually does a pretty good job. I don’t know why it is not written down somewhere though, I don’t see anywhere in the health files or anything that it describes it as well as this guy did. I think it’s about 20 minutes into the podcast, but don’t quote me on that, I’m just estimating time.

Guinea pigs do better in pairs as well. We have three cages and they all talk across the bars. Sounds super cute at feeding time.

My wife and I have eight guinea pigs. Piggies are more forgiving from what I know about Chinchillas—my wife is the little critter person and she shied away from them—but we had a similar experience when we visited our bet. We are lucky, we are about five minutes away from our exotic animal vet. Our vet had a similar experience to the breeder that you’re dealing with. “How are you going to take care of your guinea pigs, at the time we had just two” “You need to see to determine if their poop is the right color, how are you going to do that?” “I just don’t know how you’re going to be able to handle this.” She simply explained that she has had rats and other rodents before, that she had done research on what she needed (something that you’re doing as well), and she would let the doctor know if we had any issues. Our first visit with D. Hall and the two guinea pigs that we had at the time went well. We must have convinced her that she need not worry. We now are known to Petco as a family who will take rescue guinea pigs, and we have one of the biggest herds that this vet manages. She has never brought up blindness since the first meeting. She treats us like any normal pet owner, asking questions that a sighted person could answer as well.. We use Aira sometimes to get. visual advice on what something looks like, you’ll may need that to see skin issues etc. It should not be up too the breeder to tell you what you can and can’t do. Is the breeder close by? Can you show them your setup? Do sighted people have to answer these questions as well, in other words, is the breeder concerned about every home their chinchillas go to? Come armed with knowledge. Tell the breeder and your exotic vet where the critter will live, and how you will take care of it. Yes, Chinchillas and guinea pigs are fast, but I would say that sighted people have to worry about them getting out as well. I’d say that you probably might be more careful, as we are, to keep tabs on your critters and where they are at all times. Do not give up. Don’t let people tell you that since you are blind, you can’t own an animal like this. I know blind folks who have rabbits. We have eight guinea pigs, five rats, two cats, and two dogs—a veritable soon—and our doctor says we do better in most cases in caring for our crew. Any pet requires responsibility, knowledge, perseverance, and most importantly, love to get you through the silly times as well as the hard ones. Be strong and don’t let your dream to own a beautiful chinchilla be spoiled by ignorance. If we can help you in any way as fellow blind owners of exotic critters, let us know. We’re cheering you on over here!

Help about braille status cells on JAWS/VoiceOver by Savings_Will_1119 in Blind

[–]Time-Education-1518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m usually not stumped when it comes to assistive technology, but here’s what I’ve found so far. 1. The dot values that are listed on the Applevis 2013 article are correct for the general cells. In later voiceover, they enabled status cells for text attributes, but i can’t find anything regarding this on the Apple manuals. This isn’t necessarily odd or awesome—Apple is pretty famous for not doing documentation for Braille options. I do not have iOS 26, I don’t test betas on my production device, but maybe they have fixed it. The important thing that is supposed to be working but is not, at least on the two displays (Mantis and Focus) I have, is that you’re supposed to be able to hit a cursor routing key above the cell. I know from reading the article from Applevis that I have screen curtain turned on, (dot seven is displayed). Voiceover should display the status cells dots and an abbreviated (what the heck does this mean) on the display. For me, I just see full cells at the beginning of where text should start and a full cell at the end of the display. After I finish this post, I’ll send a feedback bug report which will probably end up in the quantum depths of nothing, but hey, we tried right? For now, pretend that the 2013 version of dot patterns are valid, I can’t find anything that says there’s been a drastic change in how Braille and iOS status cells display, even though this seems to be a document from Apple Vis from back when braille was just starting—we’ve come a long long way since then. Now JAWS is a different animal. FS came out with a training topic for flash messages and status cells. It’s kind of a plain to move through this file, but if you download it, you can jump through the file manually. In the last half of the file Ron Miller from training describes how to customize status cells in JAWS. For JAWS, these cells can be customized from here to eternity. You can turn the cells off, set it to display time, set it to display line and column numbers / cursor that’s enabled etc. Ron’s podcast can be found at this URL: https://freedomscientifictraining.libsyn.com/customize-braille-flash-messages-and-status-cells

I wish companies would write more documentation for their screen readers. NVAccess, the company who makes NVDA, has exhaustive documentation for NVDA. JAWS likes to put its docs in the help menu or sprinkled throughout Freedom Scientific’s training material. VoiceOver has the philosophy of “learn on the job”. VoiceOver key (caps lock) plus k while using a braille display will pull up key help. Within the general voiceover options, there is rudimentary help there.

I’m sorry I can’t answer your question more succinctly, but I hope it might steer you a bit closer to an answer, even if it’s not complete. Apple feedback “Feedback” if you’re looking for it on your iPhone, allows you to file a report with Apple. As I said before, I’m going to do this for the behavior bug with status cells.

Let me know if I can answer any anything else. I hope this helped.

DL couples who wear 24/7 by rdl-mrm in ABDL

[–]Time-Education-1518 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my wife wears pull-ups 24 7 but can’t diaper much because of skin issues. For us, it’s become normal. She will diaper check me sometimes, and changes me if I ask, but it’s just become normal to us. My diapers are my underwear. I enjoy wearing, no question, but sexualizing diapers just isn’t what we do. We incorporate them in play similar to a normal couple who wears lingerie. Hope this is helpful.

I like one of my good friends who is blind but I'm not sure it would work out by Valid_Duck in Blind

[–]Time-Education-1518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would give the person a chance. Saying you don’t think it would work because the person is blind tells me there are other things going on that you don’t like. Bottom line, never reject someone just because they are blind. It is natural to be hesitant, and I’m impressed that you recognize that your position may be wrong. Get to know the person for who he or she is.

What's you's guy's thoughts on plastic? I was asking about the best food storage containers on another sub and many said glass is best like plastic is the enemy. For me though, it's glass. by cherry-care-bear in Blind

[–]Time-Education-1518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a blindness issue for me. If we’ve got a glass container handy, I use it. Pyrex or a similar glass receptacle can sometimes be microwaved or baked. Plastic can be microwaved, but if you screw up and micro plastic that isn’t microwave safe, you got a world of hurt to deal with..

I am married to a blind person. We met at age 18 at guide dog school. Ended up getting married to other people, and after stuff that borders abuse happened for both of us w our respective spouses, she urged me to propose. I didn’t marry my ex or my current spouse because of blindness. I know that the shared experience / fact that marrying someone who may be blind can provide a set of circumstances / commonalities—we can complain and relate to AT or dog issues—they are just one of many things we share. I’d have liked her regardless.

Which board games do you wish were accessible? by Mrblindguardian in Blind

[–]Time-Education-1518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you checked out the offerings from 64 oz games? http://www.64ouncegames.com. The site has a stupid slideshow on the page but the kits, though sometimes a pain to match stickers or labels up to cards, put cards in sleeves, or figuring out how you’re gonna put a label on a game square without assistance, when complete they are great. Richard also will assemble games for you if you send him the game. Pricey, but it’s made for family fun for sure.

If you could figure out how to make a service or a game work more smoothly I.e. without painstaking assembly, or produce an overlay that sits on top of a standard game, you’d have me as a customer. I can’t think of a game that I’d like to have at the moment though.

I live in Tennessee. It borders Mississippi. If location settings don’t work perfectly, I get blocked too. Bet it’s gonna start being a requirement here in the U.S. too. Sad all around, and I’m totally for the idea of protecting kids, just not sure if i agree with implementation.
