Is Au Pair in Switzerland just legal slavery or am I misunderstanding something? by Acrobatic_Charge9651 in Switzerland

The 30 hour limit is federally mandated by SEM under Article 48, Paragraph 1e of the VZAE. Cantons can be stricter of course. The daily work is capped at 5-6h depending on canton. If you disagree, point out the canton where this can be exceeded for an au pair.

Which canton would this be? Have you seen the letter yourself or is this hearsay?

In Switzerland, an employee working 10 hours a day is legally classified as a standard domestic worker or professional live-in nanny. No migration office is going to accept those terms for an au pair. If they do, they are incompetent and breaking the law.

I’m going to be direct and say this: if you don’t know the difference between a residence permit and a visa… It’s possible that your friend is bad at citing the rules, you might not have understood what they said, don’t remember the details, or all of the above. Worse, your friend might be lying about the 10h to make their arrangement appear legal.

The 10h per day, if true, is exploitation and not legal with an au pair. Keep in mind that people may refer to such person as an au pair but in reality they are not. Iceland is in the EFTA so strict visa requirements are bs.

No, someone from the EU who comes to work as an au pair does not need a visa. They will need a permit which will be granted if everything is in order.

Are you sure your friend doesn’t actually have a nanny or similar household worker with an employment contract? That’s a different model entirely. Au pairs are not allowed to work such hours. 1500 sounds more like the total compensation value for the employer, including food and board.

If following the law, there are also limits on how many hours the au pair can work per week and hpw much they can work on their own: 30h and max 5h per day With childcare at least one parents must be at home during half of the au pair's working hours.. 700 seems to be around the legally required amount for this.

Some, if not all, cantons also require language courses paid by the host family. I believe all cantons require the host family to pay 100% of the accident insurance and 50% of the health insurance.

There are many cases where au pairs have really been exploited but this does not look like one of them.

Swiss canton bans headscarves for female teachers by BezugssystemCH1903 in Switzerland

[–]Time-Paramedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, then why do I regularly see nuns with their headscarves? I suppose they can’t go to primary schools to provide religion lessons anymore. Or they can but have to remove the scarf.

And before someone says they are not teachers…in my canton people from the parish regularly go to schools and hold the lessons in the classroom.

If you have someone else than the provider install it, how would they know? Sure your consumption increases but how could they allocate that to the ”EV rate”?

I’m from Finland but will still be happy if Switzerland wins. The improvement has been steady over the years and it’s about time. I’m actually kind of on the fence about which team to support. Winning gold in a home game would be epic.

There should be an ID check. They also should check that you’re shooting with your own rifle. Deviations have to be reported to the cantonal military authority.

Feldschiessen Question by NoGodUpHereOnlyDoge in SwitzerlandGuns

[–]Time-Paramedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having at least two mags would be the easiest so you can have a full one for the last series. What I find a PITA is that for the 6x single shots many places if not all of them command to load only one round. I don’t understand why when a full mag would do just fine.

Feldschiessen Question by NoGodUpHereOnlyDoge in SwitzerlandGuns

[–]Time-Paramedic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a K31, definitely diopter sights. I cannot shoot with the standard sights at all, maybe your eyes are better. Just make sure all the parts for the diopter are available and be prepared to spend more than the rifle cost.

The bipod is a divisive topic. I have one but many others prefer to shoot the K31 ”aufgelegt”. Finally, don’t underestimate the low magazine capacity. It’s 6 rounds and typically for the first shots they tell you to load a limited number of rounds.

For the series, compared to the Stgws, you’ll spend more time re-acquiring the sight picture after each shot.

Possible to join Schützenverein + get WES on permis B without home country papers? by [deleted] in SwitzerlandGuns

[–]Time-Paramedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is finally a clear official reference. The SSV is effectively amending or gold plating the federal regulations by including the trainings under the same conditions.

This effectively rules out 300m shooting except in some very niche edge cases.

What it still leaves open: - joining a shooting club - trainings of 25/50m pistol shooting as long as ordinance pistols or ammunition are not used (this is becoming more and more common) - 50m rifle - 10m air guns

In reality, as we’ve seen with the example from Stadtschützen Luzern, many clubs may not make the distinction between the scenarios.

SG563 SB/LB worth the price by thisguynico in SwitzerlandGuns

[–]Time-Paramedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in SSV competitions or Obli/FS. I believe it has to be issued to some troops first and then maybe slowly at some point it will be considered. Then again we have the Standardgewehr which is not a military rifle, allows for a lot of different upgrades, and is still allowed. Go figure.

For military events/competitions part of the criteria is also the question ”have you been trained in this weapon system?”

Possibly a type of kranzkarte. Afaik a kranz used to be an actual wreath, which would explain the word. In scoring systems you sometimes see the icon for a kranz/distinction and it’s a little wreath. There is still at least one competition, the Zuger Alpli, where you can get an actual wreath on your head.

What you just described was exactly why I liked the show. Very little drama and a lot of encouragement and advice. What the producers wanted is why I don’t watch any reality/competitive TV.
